Chapter 102: Chapter 100: Who Will Control This Stinky Dragon
By the time the sky had grown completely dark, Black Tiger and his men were ready.
The battle outside the city walls was at its fiercest.
Xuan Shuang, Tian Huan, Bai Jin, and Xuan Qing charged on the front lines, with a host of soldiers right behind them.
Fei Yan, Yue Ying, and Cang Lan guarded the rear.
Mo Xiao had been keeping a close eye on the rear mountain. The moment a sliver of light appeared, he blew the Bone Whistle.
Instantly, the whistle’s cry permeated the air. It was like a soul-reaping phantom, a sound so bone-chilling and heart-piercing that it made everyone’s hair stand on end.
It caught the enemy completely off guard, and their momentum instantly weakened.
Xuan Shuang let out a furious roar. "Kill them all!"
The warriors behind her followed with ferocious momentum, roaring, "Kill! Kill! Kill!"
Xuan Shuang remembered Mo Xiao saying that the whistle’s effect had a time limit.
Therefore, they had to use this short window of opportunity to completely crush the enemy’s morale and force their formidable foe into retreat.
Black Tiger, seeing his chance from the rear mountain, led his men in a swarming charge from behind.
This pincer attack was enough to throw the enemy into utter chaos.
The piercing whistle was already causing them unbearable agony. Now, seeing the Tiger Clan’s reinforcements arrive, they instantly fell into disarray.
Inside a command tent, a soldier from the front lines scrambled in to report, "Lord Jin Tong! The whistle is causing unbearable suffering! The Tiger Clan’s reinforcements have arrived—you have to think of something, quickly!"
Jin Tong glanced to his side at the woman dressed in red.
The woman was lounging on a low couch. Her figure was bewitching, her waist as slender as a willow, and her features were as fine as a painting. She was an absolute beauty, capable of toppling nations, yet a terrifying killing intent lurked in the depths of her eyes.
Her red lips curled into a semblance of a smile as she looked at Jin Tong and spoke leisurely, "How do you plan to get out of this?"
Jin Tong tossed some pills to the soldier. "Have the commanders take these. The others will just have to endure for a little while."
’He really hadn’t expected this. Instead of turning on each other, they’d banded together. It was a true miscalculation.’
He didn’t have much of the medicine that counteracted the whistle—not nearly enough to give one to every soldier.
’Still, Jin Tong knew the whistle’s effect was time-limited. They just had to hold out.’
The soldier accepted the pills, his brow furrowed. "I’m afraid this won’t be enough. Their reinforcements are here, and we don’t know their numbers. The situation is not in our favor."
Jin Tong frowned. "It’s just a bluff. Ignore them."
He had barely finished speaking when another soldier stumbled in. "Lord Jin Tong, the front can’t hold! And our grain supplies in the rear have been raided!"
The woman in red on the couch twitched an eyebrow.
She vanished in a flash to see for herself. When she returned, her gaze was fixed on Jin Tong, radiating murderous intent.
"Didn’t you say the Tiger Clan would fall today? What is happening!"
Jin Tong replied coldly, "Are these the soldiers the City Lord brought me? So weak that a mere Bone Whistle can throw them into disarray?"
The woman flew to stand before him. "You’d better not be playing games with me. You know I’m not a very nice person!"
Jin Tong shot her a cold look. "We’re merely partners. There’s no need for threats, City Lord. Do you think I’m a good person?"
With that, he strode out to see for himself. The battlefield was indeed in utter chaos.
The Tiger Clan’s morale had soared, and they were now pressing their advantage.
Watching the endless stream of soldiers still pouring in from the rear mountain, Jin Tong said grimly, "Prepare for withdrawal."
He turned back, only to see the woman behind him drawing her bow. She had an arrow nocked and was aiming for the white tiger general fighting fiercely at the front.
A chilling smile played on the woman’s lips. "I can’t leave empty-handed. They must bleed for this!"
WHOOSH—
The poison-tipped arrow flew out, hurtling straight toward its target.
An arrow from a Level Nine Beastman never misses.
By the time Xuan Shuang sensed the danger, the arrow was already upon her.
In her shock, she was violently shoved aside by the person next to her.
The next second, Xuan Shuang caught the person as he fell. "Tian Huan!"
An arrow was buried in Tian Huan’s left chest. Black blood trickled from the wound.
Xuan Qing appeared in a flash. "Wei Ruo, get Tian Huan to Miss Su and the Eldest Miss! Quickly!"
With that said, he glanced toward the red figure in the distance. The woman was drawing her bow again, aiming in their direction.
Xuan Qing immediately grabbed a bow and aimed right back at her.
The two arrows collided, exploding in a flash of cold light. The shafts shattered, and the force of the impact made the surrounding Beastmen freeze for a moment.
Xuan Qing quickly pulled Xuan Shuang to safety.
「In the courtyard.」
By the time Wei Ruo brought Tian Huan to Xuan Wei, Tian Huan’s face had turned black and his breathing had become labored.
After checking his pulse, Xuan Wei quickly called for Su Mo. "Miss Su, come and take a look, quickly."
The arrow was lodged deep, it was poisoned, and the toxin was spreading with terrifying speed. Xuan Wei didn’t dare to act rashly.
Su Mo set down the medicine jar she was holding and strode over.
She looked up and met Wei Ruo’s questioning gaze; she could also sense the doubt in Tian Huan’s eyes as he looked at her.
Su Mo’s calm eyes swept over the arrow in his chest. She lightly dipped a finger into the black blood, brought it to her nose, and sniffed.
She then had them help him into a room. She cut her own wrist and let half a small bowl of her blood drip toward Tian Huan’s lips.
"Normal medicine can’t stop this poison. You need to drink my blood."
Tian Huan stared at her, weak and astonished, not moving.
Su Mo frowned. "You won’t? Then forget it."
As she said this, she made to toss the bowl, but Tian Huan reached out just in time, took it, and drank it all in one gulp.
Su Mo found some medicinal powder to stanch the bleeding and suppress the poison, sprinkling it on the wound.
Then, she washed her hands and said, "I’m going to pull the arrow now. Brace yourself."
"You—!" Wei Ruo stared at Su Mo, tense.
He wanted to ask if she knew what she was doing, but before he could get the words out, Su Mo pressed down on Tian Huan’s chest and cleanly pulled out the arrow.
Black blood gushed out, spraying all over Su Mo’s dress.
Her expression unchanging, Su Mo took a knife and began to clean the wound on his chest.
As she stitched the wound, Su Mo said pointedly, "I’ve done what I can. If you’re not at ease, General Tian Huan, you can have the Eldest Miss take over. My blood may be poisonous, but it’s controlling the spread of the toxin in your body. Once I figure out the antidote, I’ll let you know. I can’t guarantee a full recovery, but at least your life is no longer in danger for the moment."
Su Mo glanced at him, then at the worried Wei Ruo behind him, and added deliberately, "If you experience any minor side effects later on, don’t you go saying I tricked you on purpose."
Tian Huan clearly felt much better. At the very least, the spread of the poison had been halted.
He answered, his voice laced with guilt, "You jest, Miss Su. Tian Huan owes you his life. From now on, I would go through fire and water for you!"
"I have no use for your life. Just don’t call me a treacherous villain the next time we meet."
Tian Huan stammered, "I... I wouldn’t dare. I won’t..."
Behind him, Wei Ruo also hung his head, too guilt-ridden to even look at Su Mo.
Su Mo had just finished washing her hands when she heard an urgent shout from outside.
"Where is Miss Su?!"
Just as Su Mo stepped outside, she saw a familiar figure standing at the main gate.
It was Long Yan, travel-worn and dusty, his worried expression impossible to hide.
The instant he saw Su Mo, his pupils constricted violently.
Long Yan’s gaze swept over her figure, taking in the splatters of blood on her clothes and the faint red mark on her wrist.
Her face seemed a little paler than usual, and she looked utterly exhausted.
As the evening breeze rustled her hair and the hem of her clothes, Long Yan felt as if she might simply dissipate into the air.
He instinctively thought she was injured, and his heart clenched painfully.
There was no time to think.
Su Mo barely registered a blur of motion before he appeared in front of her like a flash of light.
Before she could react, she was pulled into a searing, tight embrace.
His chest heaved violently, and his arms were like iron bands, squeezing her so tightly she could barely breathe.
She heard his rushed, uncontrolled murmur in her ear, "Thank god, you’re okay... You’re okay!"
His voice was laced with the ecstatic joy of finding something he thought he had lost.
A string of numbers suddenly appeared in Su Mo’s mind: Passerby A, Affection Level 70.
’So... Long Yan is Passerby A?’
Behind them, Yue Ying, Fei Yan, Cang Lan, Mo Xiao, as well as Xuan Shuang, Xuan Qing, and their party all froze in place.
Yue Ying irritably whipped out the feather fan at his waist, grinding his teeth. ’I knew that damn dragon was up to no good, hugging my Momo the second he arrives! And so tightly, too.’
’ARGH, I’m going to explode!!! Somebody do something about this damn dragon!’
’What surprised Xuan Shuang was that she’d known the Blood Covenant would bring him back, but she never expected him to arrive so quickly...’
