Chapter 15: AN ALPHA’S RAGE
KEISHA’S POV The morning was a blur of activities. When I got into the office, I took a sip of coffee, staring down at my computer. Time to start filing through the records then. Settling down on my chair, I started scrolling through everything, that’s when I noticed the flagged query was gone. My brows furrowed and I clicked on the file. Gone. "Huh..." I leaned back in my chair. That was weird. Had it been resolved already? After careful contemplation, I decided to brush it off. Alpha Callum had taken the printed copy with him last night, he probably resolved it on his own end after tracing it in his system. There was no need to worry about anything else. "Keisha?" A colleague called out my name, her heels clicking against the floor as she strolled in with a file in her hand. I looked up at her, immediately standing to my feet when I saw who it was. "Mrs Velaris. What is it?" She handed it over to me. "I have no idea where Vivian is and she was supposed to submit this to Elder Garic. Do you think you can do me a favor and submit this to him?" She asked, handing it over. I immediately collected it, nodding frantically. "Yeah, I’ll do that now." With that, I hurried out of the office, making my way to where I knew he would be. At the hall. I handed it over to him, explaining what Mrs Velaris said and the seasoned old man nodded, hanging on to every word I said. "Goddess bless you, Keisha," he finally said when I was done. "I’ve seen your work. You’re doing a great job." Maybe he didn’t know it, but his words warmed something in me. It made me feel like I was actually worth something. A smile remained on my face as I walked back to my office, feeling giddy with excitement. As I entered my office, I realized I wasn’t alone. "Orin?" My voice didn’t hide my confusion. He was sitting on the chair across my table and I could see the package next to him. "What are you doing here?" I shut the door behind us, feeling a bit wary. He shrugged slightly. "Thought I’d come give you lunch." He brought out a plate of fries and sauce, placing them gently on the table. "Here." Oh. Diane hummed inside me. "Trying too hard. It’s almost sickening." Before she could belittle his efforts any further, I shut her out. "You really didn’t have to. But I appreciate it so much." I settled back down in my chair, pulling the plate towards me. I hadn’t had much to eat. Since I woke up late, I could only afford to grab a bite of food before dashing out to work. So this was pretty nice for me. Orin sat back down and we fell into easy conversation as always. He asked about work and we talked for a long time about nothing in particular. Suddenly, he leaned closer, resting his hand on the table. "Soㅡare you busy this evening?" His eyes were fixed on me, watching my every movement. I suddenly felt self conscious and adjusted in my seat. "Depends, why?" I asked, avoiding his heated gaze as I pulled a document towards myself, flipping through the pages. Orin remained undeterred. "I completely understand if you’re busy. If you’re not however...maybe we can hangout?" The words hung between us, tension beginning to simmer and I let myself look up at him. "Hang out? I mean, if I clock in early, I’m down for that. Maybe a little stroll?" I suggested. Why the hell was I saying yes to this again? Fuck, I really didn’t want to feel like I was leading him on. He was a very nice person but it felt like I was simply using his interest as a distraction for the heat I felt for Callum and Dane. Orin didn’t smile. "Actually, I was hoping we could hang out at my place." My stomach dropped and confusion flashed across my features. "Your place? Isn’t that a bitㅡ" I let out a nervous laugh. He seemed to understand that I was uncomfortable, because he leaned away with an easy grin spreading across his face. "I didn’t mean it like that. I’m not the type to invite people over. You’re a fan of what kind of movies? We could just hang out and watch one." Oh. I nodded. "I totally understand. Howeverㅡ" I nodded to the pile of unfinished work. "I really do have a lot ofㅡ" The door burst open and I jerked in my seat, startled by it. Alpha Callum stormed, anger flashing in his eyes when he saw Orin seated there. Orin and I immediately dashed to our feet and I felt myself break into a cold sweat. Oh shit. What was he doing here? I hadn’t even felt him when he got close. That was because I was distracted and focused on Orin. Too focused that I didn’t pay any attention to the warning signals flooding the bond. Now, it pressed down on me. His emotions ㅡ the anger and irritation that was clear on his face. "Alpha Callumㅡ" I opened my mouth but he was already talking. "Miss Keisha. I would like to believe that you are here to work. And not to harbor men in your office." He spat. 1 I flinched slightly, unused to the tone he was using. "Iㅡ" He didn’t let me finish. "There is a missing query! And somehow you’re not aware of it? Because you’re carried away by what?" He turned to Orin. "Aren’t you supposed to be on the west wing rotation today?" Orin’s face was drained of color. "I’m actually on breakㅡ" "Then linger around the vicinity until it’s time for you to resume your duties, soldier!" His voice cracked through the room like thunder. My mind worked fast. Missing query? Was it the one I flagged yesterday? It was missing and not resolved? "Get out, Orin. The last thing I need is mistakes in my pack records because my workers refuse to keep their boundaries." Alpha Callum’s voice remained hard and low. Orin nodded, dashing out of the space and I was left alone with Alpha Callum. Oh. I immediately looked away, my heart racing. "I deeply apologize." "Don’tㅡ" He raised a hand. "I’ve informed Velaris. The matter should be looked into immediately. Starting from this office." Then he was walking out, his shoulders tensed and dark coat billowing behind him. I watched him, a thousand questions on the tip of my tongue. And more importantly, what the fuck was that about?
