Chapter 4: Legacy Rewards
–Chapter 4–
Title: Legacy Rewards
"Beautiful."
The word had slipped from his lips but it was still the only word meant to describe what he saw.
With his eyes still fixated on the translucent floating screen, he read it over and over again just to make sure his brain wasn’t filling in details that weren’t there.
But no matter how long he stared and double checked.
The screen still read...
[Absolute Drop Authority]
[Rank: EX]
[Type: Unique Talent]
[Description: Whenever you a target is defeated, you will always receive the most optimal rewards that target can yield for your current progression.
Effect: Absolute Drop Authority ignores acquisition conditions, hidden requirements and probability.
"The Greatest should not be bound by chance."]
The edge of Xavier’s lips arched up slowly.
The very ramifications of this talent wasn’t just having drops...Because the truth was that Arillion online had always been a game of odds. At least at the start.
Every hidden or unique class, talent and equipment whether it be rare, legendary or even mythic had players grinding for weeks, replaying and replaying quests for months and some really dedicated people like himself... Years!
And now the system just handed him something that ignored all of that.
Something that would help him avoid loot struggles that had made guilds fall apart.
An exemption from markets between players and even NPCs that would be built around the impossible drop rates.
No matter how he looked at it. This wasn’t just a one of a kind talent, as they had said in the credits in his last completed playthrough.
This was a cheat... and whoever designed and called it Ex- rank wasn’t drunk but also definitely didn’t know fully well what he was capable of.
Before he could think further on how to go about this, another notification popped up in front of him.
[Three time conquest reward available]
The air glowed faintly then another golden light gathered in front of him.
But unlike the first reward that formed a chest. This one came in the form of three floating disks that hung side by side.
Above the disks was a text.
[Legacy bloodline slots attained.]
’Slots?’
What does it mean by slots? Without wasting any more time, the disk dissipated into small motes of golden light that invaded his body.
With the rush of light causing his form to flair another interface appeared in his vision.
[Bloodline slots have been expanded.]
[Capacity: 1 → 3]
[Description: While others can hold a single heritage to mana. You may possess three. For bloodlines are not granted but discovered. And whatever is discovered must choose you in return.]
Unlike before, Xavier frowned at the sight but it wasn’t necessarily out of disinterest but more of confusion.
This was definitely going to take more than a minute to wrap his head around. Because at this moment. One of the game’s longest standing rules after so many patches was being broken.
In Arillion online, it was always one player to one bloodline. And that player is usually stuck cultivating and mastering that bloodline throughout the game.
Right now he wasn’t granted bloodlines but the ability to become a vessel for up to three of those ancient asylums of power.
And this meant that the limits of one or two classes and paths to divinity would be beneath him.
When others stop evolving, he would have to continue grinding and if he stays alive long enough.
’Surpasses even them...’
Xavier’s frown disappeared, leaving behind a wide and devious grin at the last thought.
This was the system rewarding hundreds of hours of his dedication to completing the game, not just once but three times.
And even though he was considered irregular at this point, not even that can blind the system to his legacy as the global number one player of Arillion online.
***
A few moments later, the system reminded him again, why he is considered an irregular...
[Starting Rewards Withheld]
Which entailed the unavailability of starting equipment, rations and even protection from the monsters in the early game.
Just as protocols were suspended for his good with those high level rewards. He was also deprived from others that would have been for his good.
But at the end of the day, he was Hunter "X", he was always going to find a way around the limitations and abuse the advantages he got. In order to find his sister in this trap.
Bringing the menu interface up again, Xavier let out a small sigh as he went through them again.
If the system already recognized his status as Hunter X then maybe just maybe the restrictions would have been lifted already.
Maybe now, he could find a way to reach the world chat and other players precisely his sister.
Quickly, he selected the party icon and the interface glitched before the red colored notification appeared.
[Function Unavailable]
Xavier remained calm, his eyes moving to the next option.
He clicked on it. [Friend request/ List]
The same notification appeared.
[Function Unavailable]
Not stopping there, he also tried the player search engine and the results were exactly the same.
It was safe to believe that at this point, the system didn’t want him anywhere near the other players in the game or outside it.
After all...there was no Log out button.
When it came down to it though, Xavier couldn’t give a fuck what they wanted. His sister was out there, probably confused and looking for him as well.
He could only pray she was okay and had spawn somewhere she could actually run till she got tired of it.
Xavier couldn’t help the smile that crept on his lips at the thought. And then and there he also decided he wasn’t going to be held back by these restrictions. Xavier’s eyes darted back to mail.
Honestly...he wasn’t expecting anything from there. Especially since Player search and Friend list were gate-kept by the system.
Still... his curiosity couldn’t be held back and he selected it.
Much to his surprise, the interface opened up. His eyes widened in shock as they darted through.
A single message was waiting for him.
[1 Unread Delivery]
With his heart beat quickened in anticipation. He clicked on the message and the first thing he saw was V.
Almost immediately, a strange sense of relief settled over Xavier.
"V."
After everything that had happened, after the warnings, the countdown and the impossible login, seeing that familiar name somehow made things feel a little less insane.
But that feeling lasted for less than a second...
His eyes dropped to the small package icon attached beneath the message. And the relief disappeared.
His brows slowly knitted together.
"How...?"
The words escaped him before he could stop them.
’How are you doing this?’
