Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Please Turn On Your Microphone to Communicate
Gu Zhao beckoned to the marmot. The marmot tilted its head and then ran over.
"Do you know where there’s a water source?" They didn’t have any water, and survival depended on finding some.
She had no desire to end up looking like a mummy.
The marmot looked utterly bewildered.
’What is this lady chirping about?’
Gu Zhao suddenly had a bad feeling...
"Hello?"
The marmot tilted its head.
"Hello..."
The marmot’s eyes lit up as it stared at Gu Zhao, chattering away excitedly.
Gu Zhao looked utterly bewildered.
Zhong Mingrui looked at Gu Zhao curiously. "Big King, what’s it saying?"
Everyone else looked at Gu Zhao, their faces full of curiosity.
Gu Zhao said, "It’s just chirping away... like a bird. I didn’t understand a thing."
Zhong Siqi pondered for a moment, then said hesitantly, "This... surely there isn’t a language barrier, is there...?"
Zhong Mingrui looked confused. "Speak plainly, brother."
"This is a foreign country. Their main languages are English or the local dialect."
Zhong Mingrui was still bewildered.
Song Yi got it. "So their language is different from ours? That’s why Big King didn’t understand?"
Zhong Siqi nodded.
Song Zhe and Gu Xulin were speechless.
Gu Zhao: ????
’Useless system!!!’
’You think a little thing like this could stump me, Gu Zhao?’
Gu Zhao plopped down on the ground and began to gesture wildly.
"You. Take me. Find water." Gu Zhao pointed at the marmot, then at herself. She made a walking gesture with two fingers and finally mimed the act of drinking.
When she was done, Gu Zhao looked at the marmot expectantly.
The marmot’s eyes lit up! It understood!
It scurried a few steps ahead, then waved its little paw.
"Follow me!"
Gu Zhao understood the gesture, and the group followed it.
After about half an hour of walking, the marmot stopped under a tree and started to dig at its base.
A few seconds later, it clutched a plump, juicy grub and offered it to Gu Zhao.
Gu Zhao: ??
[LOL, just eat it. The little guy went to all that trouble, don’t break its heart.]
[Not even a master of sign language can bridge this communication gap. LOL.]
[The grub: What did I ever do to you people?]
[The grub: Friends, tell me... am I going to make it?]
[I can’t take it, hahaha. She can understand animals but is defeated by her poor English. LMAO.]
When the marmot saw that Gu Zhao didn’t want it, it looked hurt and popped the grub into its own mouth.
Gu Xulin facepalmed. Then, in a stream of fluent English, he said to the marmot, "Could you please take us to a water source?"
The marmot glanced at Gu Zhao and nodded.
The group quickly followed. After hurrying for another half an hour, they finally saw a small stream.
"Wow! It’s so beautiful!" Zhong Mingrui stared, mesmerized.
Song Yi was also stunned.
Song Zhe was even more overjoyed. "It’s so peaceful. We really should get in touch with nature more often! I feel like I’ve gone back to the days before I became such a venom-tongued husband!"
Gu Xulin took a deep breath. "Let’s rest here tonight. We’ll look for a better shelter tomorrow."
Everyone agreed.
The two younger boys excitedly ran to the edge of the stream. When Song Yi saw what was in the clear water, he immediately shouted, "Big King! There are fish in here!"
The stream wasn’t deep, making the schools of fish on its clear bottom especially noticeable.
"I’m on it! I’m on it!" Gu Zhao ran over, squatting down and practically drooling as she watched the fish. ’They live in such a beautiful place! They must be absolutely delicious!’
A fish seemed to sense Gu Zhao. "Sister~ eat me!"
But it was quickly pushed underwater by another fish. "Sister~ eat me!"
Yet another fish took the opportunity to swim up.
Gu Zhao couldn’t understand them, but she got the gist and reached out to pat a fish on the head.
Zhong Mingrui knelt before Gu Zhao with the utmost sincerity. "Big King! Please grant me an endless supply of grilled fish!"
Gu Zhao blinked. She glanced over at Zhong Siqi, whose face was dark and his fists clenched. "Granted. But this Big King will bestow one more piece of advice upon you: run. You’re about to get a beating."
Zhong Mingrui’s eyes went wide. He turned and ran.
"Where do you think you’re going!" Zhong Siqi was standing right behind him, gritting his teeth.
"You’d kneel just for a bite to eat? Where’s your backbone?! Mom and Dad would be so disappointed!"
Zhong Mingrui retorted, "Then I dare you not to eat any!"
Zhong Siqi recalled the taste of grilled meat and fell silent for two seconds. He hauled Zhong Mingrui up, gave his backside two light smacks, and set him back down. "Alright, you may continue kneeling."
Zhong Siqi then looked up at the drone. "Mom, Dad, and everyone in the audience—you’re my witnesses. I did discipline him."
[When Gu Zhao was patting the fish’s head, I got the vibe of an emperor choosing his concubines (not really).]
[Gu Zhao looks so gentle petting the fish, but then I remember she’s thinking ’delicious’ and I just lose it.]
[Zhong Mingrui: Kneeling for grilled fish is nothing. Can you eat your backbone?]
[Why is the contrast so huge! It’s all peaceful and idyllic over here, while the other team is in a desperate survival situation.]
Song Zhe eagerly gathered dry branches from nearby. It was all for the grilled fish!
「Meanwhile...」
"This is the path you chose?!" Song Jina ran until her legs were about to give out, but she didn’t dare stop. If she did, she’d be trampled into a meat patty.
The group struggled to run across the savanna.
Behind them, a herd of zebras was stampeding.
"Are you ever going to shut up?! We didn’t force you to follow us!" Yu Zimo shot back, his expression ugly.
"But she was the one leading!" Song Jina panted, barely able to keep running.
"An’an, hurry!" Zhou Lan grabbed her arm, pulling her along.
The herd of zebras got closer and closer.
"ROAR!!" Suddenly, several tiger roars echoed out.
The faces of the fleeing group instantly turned pale.
Several tigers ran out in front of them.
[AHHHHHHHH! Director, save them!!!]
[I can’t watch anymore. Tigers in front, a zebra stampede behind. Trampled or mauled to death—either way, it’s a dead end.]
[Gu Zhao, help!!!]
"Stay away!" Ye Zuiyi’s voice trembled with fear. ’This shouldn’t be happening!’
’I’m the female lead! They should be protecting me, just like they protect Gu Zhao!’
"ROAR!!" The tigers paid them no mind, instead charging forward to scatter the zebra herd.
Soon, the entire herd of zebras scattered.
The tigers grinned smugly. "Heh, as if *they* thought they could compete with us for the fragrant one?"
"The fragrant one is ours! Come on! Let’s go take a bath and find our Little Xiangxiang~"
The tigers trotted away happily. Before it left, one of them glanced at Ye Zuiyi.
’This two-legged whelp is so rude, daring to glare at us. If we weren’t trying to stay clean for the little one, I’d have taken a bite out of her.’
The tigers left.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, their hearts finally settling back into their chests.
Yu Zimo was still shaken, but when he recalled the scene he had just witnessed, he thought Ye Zuiyi was just like a fairy. "Zuiyi, did they... did they listen to you just now?"
"I saw that tiger look at you."
Yu Xiaowei was speechless. ’Just because it looked at you doesn’t mean it was listening to you.’
But you have to know when to keep your head down, so she chose to keep her mouth shut.
Ye Zexi once again revealed his sister-complex. "Our Yibao is such a lucky star."
Ye Zuiyi lowered her head, also believing it was her doing. ’Now that Gu Zhao isn’t around, my luck has finally returned!’
"Oh no, it was probably just good luck," Ye Zuiyi said, but the corners of her lips curved upward as she feigned modesty.
