Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Gradually Becoming Mentally Normal

"I like that two-legged creature! I want to mate with her!"

"Bad Dad! Let me go! Don’t stop me from pursuing my one true love! She smells so good!!"

Gu Zhao looked toward the source of the voice and saw a young man yanking hard on a dog leash.

On the other end of the leash, a small white poodle was struggling frantically.

Its furry little face was filled with utter infatuation...

"Hey! Hello there, two-legger! You into high-class canines, huh? My dad and I live on the sixth floor. Like that? Say something!"

Gu Xulin heard the urgent barking and glanced over. He saw a poodle desperately trying to ditch its owner. "Is that thing in heat? What a pervy dog."

The little poodle heard him and shot Gu Xulin a look. "Are you her family? You don’t have a very nice way of talking. Let’s make a deal. I’ll offer my dog food as a bride price. Don’t keep me and my true love apart for too long, alright? Buster!"

It even winked at Gu Zhao.

The dog’s owner was utterly baffled. "What’s going on? Didn’t I just get him snipped? How can he still be in heat?"

The poodle stiffened and shot its dad a resentful glare.

For some reason, Gu Xulin just felt that this dog was a total creep, and the object of its creepy attention was his own sister.

"What is it saying?" Gu Xulin looked at Gu Zhao.

Gu Zhao’s face darkened. "That eunuch of a dog wants to court me!"

When Gu Xulin heard that, his expression grew even darker. "Hmph! I bet it would taste good braised in soy sauce."

The little poodle heard Gu Zhao’s words. Its face filled with anguish, and its little doggy heart shattered into a million pieces.

The owner just thought his dog was acting strangely.

After that little interlude, the two went to an amusement park and spent the rest of the afternoon there.

As evening approached, Yun Wenjie called to remind Gu Xulin not to be late.

Since the two of them had nothing better to do, they drove over.

When they arrived, Gu Xulin led Gu Zhao inside.

"Well, well, a rare guest!"

"Brother Lin, get in here! We haven’t seen you in forever. Be honest, you think you’re too good for us now?" someone teased.

The moment Gu Xulin stepped inside, the men in the room broke into grins and welcomed him.

Gu Zhao scanned the room. There were five young men and three beautiful women in the private booth.

The women were all nestled in the men’s arms. They were probably their girlfriends.

Yun Wenjie was there too, half-reclined on the sofa with a new beauty in his arms.

The woman from this afternoon was a sexy bombshell, whereas this one was a pure, innocent-looking girl.

"So this is your little sister. I could hardly believe it when Yun Wenjie told us. I can’t believe you guys actually found her!" Su Jincheng said, a smile touching his eyes.

Su Jincheng was the only son of the Su Family. The Su Family’s old estate was right next to the Gu Family’s, and as children, he and Gu Xulin were always getting into trouble together.

But after his newborn sister and parents disappeared, he and his brothers all moved out to live on their own.

They only went back to stay for a day or so during the New Year.

Seeing a familiar face from his childhood, Gu Xulin’s expression relaxed slightly. "Yeah. My little sister, Gu Zhao."

Gu Zhao stared at Su Jincheng’s face and licked her lips. "Hello, handsome! Do you have a girlfriend? If not, how about you wait a decade or so for me?"

Gu Xulin’s face instantly darkened, and he began to eye Su Jincheng with suspicion.

’So much for being a childhood friend! He’s clearly a wolf trying to seduce my sister!’

"Sister Gu, please, spare me. The way your brother’s looking at me, I think he’s already picked out my burial plot," Su Jincheng said, the corner of his mouth twitching.

Before the two could say more, others in the room started calling them over. "Brother Lin, Brother Cheng, come on! Don’t leave us out of your little reunion, hahaha."

"Brother Lin, it’s been ages since you’ve hung out. You have to down three drinks as a penalty!"

"Yeah, yeah! Three drinks!"

Yun Wenjie spoke up, his tone dripping with passive aggression. "Don’t tell me you’re too good for us brothers now."

Su Jincheng frowned and said in a warning tone, "Wenjie."

Yun Wenjie just sneered. "What, am I wrong? Surely our big celebrity can deign to have a drink with us, can’t he?"

Seeing that the two were starting to butt heads, the other guys exchanged awkward glances.

This was a no-win situation; they couldn’t afford to offend either of them.

In the end, they all decided to lie low.

Seeing that no one was speaking up, the guys all breathed a silent sigh of relief.

’At least they’d all be in trouble together.’

Su Jincheng’s face fell, and he glared at Yun Wenjie, displeased. "He has his sister with him. How can he drink?"

Yun Wenjie scoffed. "A sister who’s been missing for years... who knows if she’s even the real deal. She might be a fake."

Gu Xulin threw a punch, landing several more on Yun Wenjie’s face. "I let you off this afternoon, didn’t I? Are you just itching for a beating?"

Yun Wenjie was just running his mouth. Of course he knew Gu Zhao was the real sister; no wealthy family would welcome back a lost child without running multiple DNA tests just to be sure.

He just wanted to get under Gu Xulin’s skin.

"Fuck! Gu Xulin! Are you insane? Why do you care so much about a sister who’s been gone for this long!" Yun Wenjie spat out a mouthful of blood, a tooth mixed in with it.

"I’ve put up with you for a long time! Gu Xulin, don’t you fucking think you can do whatever you want just because you’re a Gu! Don’t forget, the Gu Family isn’t what it used to be! Without your parents, what can the four of you possibly do!" Yun Wenjie blurted out, no longer holding back.

"You’ve been reduced to a mere actor! Why should Meng Han still pay any attention to you? She’s my fiancée! What the hell are you? You’re just a plaything for public amusement! I’ll throw some resources your way, now drink this goddamn alcohol for me!"

Gu Zhao’s mouth fell open. ’Looks like I’ve got some juicy new gossip.’

"Actor, actor! Who the hell do you think you are, acting all high and mighty? Your fiancée likes me—what the hell has that got to do with me! Why don’t you look at your own problems for once! Deal with your own shit and stop making trouble for others! You idiot! And who told you the Gu Family is finished? My Gu Family is doing better than you are on a high!" Gu Xulin cursed.

Gu Zhao wasn’t worried that Gu Xulin would lose. After all, her brother was the one pinning Yun Wenjie down and pummelling him.

Seeing Yun Wenjie getting beaten black and blue, the other guys hesitated for a moment before moving in to break up the fight.

’If he gets seriously hurt, we’re the ones who’ll have to deal with the fallout!’

’Ahhh! We came here to hang out, not to witness a blood feud!’

Everyone scrambled to pull them apart.

Gu Zhao’s chubby little hands pried at the large hand covering her eyes.

The moment Gu Xulin had started throwing punches, Su Jincheng had covered her eyes.

’So smooth...’ Gu Zhao felt it. ’So soft!’

Gu Zhao felt it again. ’Ooh! Veins!’

Su Jincheng had been worried about Gu Xulin, but with a pair of small hands constantly caressing his, he finally couldn’t take it anymore.

"Sister Gu... if you keep feeling me up like this, I’m going to be the next one your brother beats up..." Su Jincheng said helplessly. He was now convinced they were true siblings—both were just as unreasonable.

Gu Zhao played dumb. "Pretty boy, I have no idea what you’re talking about! Don’t you frame me. I didn’t do it, and even if I did, I wouldn’t admit it. Unless, of course, you agree to be mine."

Su Jincheng was speechless.

The fight on Gu Xulin’s side had ended. Yun Wenjie had a tooth knocked out, while the corner of Gu Xulin’s shirt was slightly dirty.

"Gu Xiao Zhao, your brother is in a fight and you’re over here getting handsy? Is that appropriate?!" Gu Xulin seethed, pulling Gu Zhao to his side.

Su Jincheng realized Gu Xulin was now wary of him and felt truly wronged.

Gu Zhao saw nothing wrong with her actions. "Fourth Brother, this is my treatment! Haven’t you noticed my mental state is gradually returning to normal? The expert was right! Looking at handsome men is good for both one’s physical and mental health!"
