Chapter 159: Chapter 159: There it is. The lion wants to steal her again.
She suddenly realized that even if the clothes were there, she could not exactly dress herself in rat form. She could only transform first and then grab them quickly, but if she failed to transform, she would just continue standing here looking stupid in front of three males with their backs turned.
This life was really hard.
She took a deep breath and squeezed her eyes shut again.
Human form.
Human form.
Please work.
She concentrated until her tiny body shook.
Nothing happened.
She tried again.
Still nothing.
She tried one more time, and this time she pushed so hard that she almost sneezed.
Still nothing.
Feng Yiren’s voice came from in front of her, filled with badly hidden laughter. "Did it work?"
"No," Lin Huahua said miserably.
"Should we stand like this all night?"
"Yes."
Feng Yiren’s shoulders shook once.
Lin Huahua immediately pointed at his back even though he could not see it. "Do not laugh."
"I am not laughing."
"You are."
"I am suffering."
"You deserve suffering."
Mu Qingyi turned his head slightly but did not look back at her. "Huahua, do not force it too hard. If you cannot transform now, then maybe your body is too tired. You were frightened today, and you also used your animal form for the first time since you woke up."
Lin Huahua wanted to argue, but she suddenly realized he might be right. She had almost drowned, argued with Feng Yiren several times, made footwear, ate night food, told lies about the Dream Beast God, picked fruits, transformed into a rat, climbed a tree, and possibly saw creepy red eyes in the bushes. Even for someone from the sci-fi world, that was too much activity for one day.
Her small body suddenly felt tired.
But admitting defeat was still painful.
"So what do we do?" she asked in a much quieter voice.
Hu Baiyu immediately turned his head by instinct, then caught himself and faced forward again with his ears flattened from guilt. He lifted one hand and signed toward Mu Qingyi, though Lin Huahua could not see the full movement from behind him.
Mu Qingyi glanced at him, then nodded. "We take you inside like this. It is getting cold out here."
Lin Huahua’s tiny body stiffened. "No."
Feng Yiren turned halfway. "You want to sleep under the tree?"
"Do not look at me," Lin Huahua snapped.
He turned back, but his voice was still amused. "I have already seen you. You are a tiny white ball with feet."
Lin Huahua wanted to scream. fгeewebnovёl.com
Mu Qingyi crouched and slowly held out both hands, still careful not to startle her. "Huahua, you cannot stay outside. Even if you are in animal form, the night wind will still make you cold. Let us take you in, and we can try again tomorrow."
Lin Huahua hesitated.
She did feel colder now. Her tiny paws were on the flat stone, but the night air brushed through her fur, and because she was so small, every breeze seemed larger than before. She also did not want those red eyes, real or imagined, to appear again while she was stuck in a body that could be swallowed by a rude bird.
So she finally sighed. "Fine. But you cannot tell my mother."
Mu Qingyi paused. "Huahua."
"I mean it," Lin Huahua said quickly. "You cannot tell my mother, my father, my brothers, or anyone else. If they know I forgot how to transform back, they will ask too many questions. They already think I look different and act different. What if they become even more suspicious? What if they think the Dream Beast God broke my head?"
Feng Yiren muttered, "He did."
"I heard that."
"You were meant to."
Mu Qingyi’s voice stayed gentle. "We will not tell them unless it becomes dangerous."
Lin Huahua immediately looked at Hu Baiyu. "You too."
Hu Baiyu nodded at once, then slowly held one hand over his heart, promising silently.
She looked at Feng Yiren.
Feng Yiren clicked his tongue. "Why are you looking at me like I am the least trustworthy?"
Lin Huahua did not speak.
Mu Qingyi did not speak.
Hu Baiyu did not speak.
The silence answered for everyone.
Feng Yiren looked offended. "Fine. I will not tell them."
Lin Huahua narrowed her tiny eyes. "Promise?"
"I promise."
"On what?"
Feng Yiren thought for a moment, then said, "On the fact that if I tell them, you will probably cry, and then these two will blame me again."
Lin Huahua accepted that because it sounded very true.
Mu Qingyi carefully picked her up with both hands, but before he could hold her close, Hu Baiyu leaned in with obvious longing. His eyes went to her tiny body, then to Mu Qingyi’s hands, then back to Lin Huahua as if silently asking if he could carry her instead.
Feng Yiren immediately said, "There it is. The lion wants to steal her again."
Hu Baiyu looked at him.
Feng Yiren lifted his chin. "What? You do."
Lin Huahua sighed. "Do not fight. I am very small right now. Your arguing is too loud."
All three males went quiet at once.
That worked too well.
Lin Huahua suddenly felt powerful again.
Mu Qingyi carried her inside gently, keeping her close enough to block the night wind but not squeezing her. Hu Baiyu walked beside them with his hand under Mu Qingyi’s just in case she slipped, and Feng Yiren followed behind with her clothes and the fruits, still sulking because he had not been chosen to carry her.
When they entered the old room Bai Ruyue had prepared for her, Lin Huahua immediately understood why her mother had insisted they stay.
The room was warmer than the outside, with thick furs layered across the floor and a low fire bowl placed near the side wall. Fresh hides had been arranged into a broad sleeping space, and the room smelled faintly of dried herbs, smoke, and the clean animal skins her brothers must have shaken out.
