Chapter 460: Chapter 434 I Didn’t Kill Anyone_1

Inside the interrogation room.

Xu Dayuan and Liu Yufei walked in; two clerks stood up. Xu Dayuan waved them off, not quite approaching, while Liu Yufei pulled a chair over opposite the interrogation chair and stood by the window, arms crossed, looking at Wang Kaitao.

Wang Kaitao’s clothes were no longer dripping wet; they were still damp, however. Although there was air conditioning in the room so it wasn’t as cold as outside, damp clothes sticking to the body were definitely uncomfortable.

But Wang Kaitao’s expression was extremely calm. Cuffed to the chair, he didn’t even lift his eyelids. If he wasn’t bothered by that, Xu Dayuan naturally had no objections.

Zhou Ning poked Pang Tianhang and Mr. Zhao; both looked at Zhou Ning.

"You take Mr. Pang with you and draw blood from Wang Kaitao, collect fingerprints—we need complete fingerprints from the side. Mr. Qu will compare them later to check if they match the partial print found in Sea Therapy No.3 Villa. Be careful when drawing blood; he might be infected with HIV. Don’t let the needle or blood touch any wounds."

Mr. Zhao responded with an "Okay," grabbed the case, and dragged Pang Tianhang out of the observation room at a quick pace. Pang Tianhang was visibly shaking, prompting Mr. Zhao to glare at him.

"Listen to me, if you’re going to shake, shake it off now. Once inside, bring out some presence, don’t embarrass your master. Your master might not scold people much and seem easy-going, but he’s someone who takes great pride in his face. Show some spine—what’s there to be afraid of, we’re the police."

Pang Tianhang nodded forcefully, as if the gesture could boost his courage.

"Mr. Zhao, I’m ready. I’m not scared of the dead, so why fear the living? No matter how fierce a suspect is, they’re still caught by us, right?"

Zhao Xinli laughed, patting Pang Tianhang on the shoulder.

"That’s the spirit. Just bring that attitude; of keeping a straight face—you don’t even have to talk. Go in, grab his arm to draw blood. I’ll take the fingerprints. We’ll work well together. If he resists or struggles, you just give him the evil eye and jab a few more times to make it count. Sound good?"

Pang Tianhang took a deep breath and nodded vigorously once more.

"I’m ready!"

With that, Zhao Xinli knocked on the door, called out a report, and upon hearing Xu Dayuan invite them in, pushed the door open. As soon as Zhao Xinli entered, he stood at attention and glanced at Wang Kaitao.

"Director Xu, Director Zhou said to draw blood for tests first and then to collect fingerprints for evidence comparison. If it’s a quick test, results can be given within three minutes."

Xu Dayuan nodded and tilted his head towards Wang Kaitao.

Zhao Xinli stepped up to Wang Kaitao’s side first; Pang Tianhang also approached. One hand pinned down Wang Kaitao’s cuffed wrist, while the other forcefully rolled up the sleeve—Pang Tianhang used all his strength, his face turning red with the effort.

Wang Kaitao felt a stinging pain from the rough handling and looked at Pang Tianhang.

But the young officer paid him no mind, fiercely cuffed up the damp sleeve until his forehead veins bulged. After much effort, the sleeve stayed up—in such tightness that no tourniquet was needed.

Mr. Zhao held down Wang Kaitao’s arm while Pang Tianhang, sanitizer in hand, began to insert the needle.

Whether it was tension or lack of experience in drawing blood from a living person, despite the thick vein before him, Pang Tianhang pierced and withdrew several times before finally drawing blood to fill the tube.

Wang Kaitao himself sighed in relief when the blood flowed. Pang Tianhang cleared his throat, somewhat embarrassed, but remembering the strict instructions from Mr. Zhao at the door, he maintained his poise. Thinking briefly as he withdrew the needle, he offered an apology.

"I’ve never drawn blood from a living person before, my apologies!" ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Mr. Zhao looked up sharply at Pang Tianhang and then averted his face, trying to control his expression. After a long moment, he let go of the location where the needle punctured, and began to collect fingerprints. This time, Wang Kaitao did not struggle or resist.

Looking at the puncture on his arm still bleeding, Wang Kaitao sighed again.

"Could I get a cotton swab? It’s still bleeding here. And can you put my sleeve down? The clothes are already wet, and if it’s clamped like this any longer, the blood circulation in my arm will be bad. Are you hoping I get amputated?"

Pang Tianhang then realized, grabbing the recently used swab and carelessly dabbing the bleeding spot. With that swipe, blood smeared everywhere. Wang Kaitao sighed once more, staying silent.

From his perspective, these people were doing it on purpose, merely to torment him because failing to inject properly wasn’t considered maltreatment. Speaking more at this point had no benefit for him.

After sampling ended, the two officers carried the case out.

Once outside, Pang Tianhang’s legs softened, and he rapidly patted his chest.

"Mr. Zhao, I didn’t mess up, did I?"

Zhao Xinli was already laughing foolishly, dragging Pang Tianhang back to the observation room. The few people inside were also laughing. Pang Tianhang was completely bewildered.

"What’s so funny? Did I do something wrong?"

Zhao Xinli waved his hand away.

"Nothing wrong at all. In fact, you did great. That line ’I’ve never drawn blood from a living person before’ was killer. Alright, Mr. Zou, you go send the sample, and Mr. Qu, you compare these fingerprints."

The group moved quickly. Mr. Qu’s comparison was very swift. Moments after entering the data, a successful match was displayed.

"It’s a match—the fingerprint found on the cup in villa number three’s guest room matches the lateral surface of the right middle finger of Wang Kaitao. We can confirm that it was left by him," Mr. Qu announced.

Mr. Zou took Pang Tianhang to submit the blood sample, while Zhou Ning signaled Mr. Zhao to print the comparison results and deliver them to Xu Dayuan.

In the next room, Xu Dayuan received the comparison report, placed it on his desk, and then looked up and down at Wang Kaitao, shaking his neck. These days, he had been exhausted by the case.

Finally capturing Wang Kaitao, all the fatigue seemed to dissipate. Xu Dayuan pulled up a chair, moving closer to the interrogation seat.

"I heard you’re quite a swimmer. When we caught you, you swam for forty minutes in the pond, fully clothed. If you had discovered your potential earlier and developed it, you might have really made a name for yourself.

All right, enough small talk. You know what you’ve done, and we’ve figured out exactly what you’ve done. Your fingerprints and DNA have been compared. The victim’s clothes, the dagger, inside their body, the cup in the villa—all bear your traces. Will you speak up and tell the truth, or do you not wish to explain anything?" Xu Dayuan prodded.

Wang Kaitao didn’t speak. Xu Dayuan wasn’t surprised by this reaction. He lit a cigarette and continued.

"27 years old—such a good age. I’m really curious, when did you develop this particular habit? Is it for this special habit that you strived so hard to make money? ƒгeewebnovёl.com

You shouldn’t be lacking with your income; a house, a car, a career—you’ve got it all. Plus, you’ve even got some compensation from the demolition your family went through, with more to come. Many people can’t even dream of having the ’demolished second generation’ status you have, starting with an income of thirty to fifty thousand a month.

For such a habit, you travel to Sapporo every month, spending so generously, and now you’re burdened with two lives on your conscience. Do you have any regrets about how things have turned out?

Let’s talk. If you don’t speak now, it won’t affect me much. We can proceed to transfer your case to the prosecution as usual. But then you’ll truly have no chance to speak. At least a judge won’t listen to you with the patience I have. Speak up!" Xu Dayuan urged.

Wang Kaitao didn’t move his head but glanced at Xu Dayuan.

"It’s not a habit, it’s curiosity," he said.

Xu Dayuan raised an eyebrow, surprised by the smooth progress, though he couldn’t really boast about not having a stage to display his skills. But of course, he couldn’t tell Wang Kaitao to endure a bit longer so he could show off before Wang confessed.

"Curious about what? Women in Sapporo? Or are you curious about their concept of procreation, wanting to understand their sexual culture?" Xu Dayuan asked.

Wang Kaitao shook his head and looked towards the cigarette in Xu Dayuan’s hand. Xu Dayuan stood, lit another one, and passed it to Wang Kaitao. He took a drag but coughed twice as he was taken aback, then glanced at the brand on the butt of the cigarette.

"Is this the kind of cigarette police smoke? You seem like a high-ranking officer, don’t you?" Wang Kaitao remarked.

Xu Dayuan nodded.

"Police are poor, and those with wives and kids are even poorer. It doesn’t matter if you’re a leader or not; we just can’t afford expensive cigarettes," Xu Dayuan explained.

Wang Kaitao took a couple of harsh drags and tossed the largely unsmoked cigarette into the paper cup Xu Dayuan had handed him. It landed in the water with a fizzing sound.

"When I was fifteen or sixteen, just hitting puberty, I went to my cousin’s house and watched Sapporo’s action films with him. It was like opening the door to a new world for me. Some people might just watch to satisfy their physiological needs, but I felt differently.

Especially when I saw those in school uniforms, looking at boys and girls who hadn’t yet developed, I got unusually excited. I always imagined that if I became wealthy one day, I would definitely go to Sapporo to see the world for myself and experience it firsthand.

Later, I met Zhang Liangyu, a junior of mine from middle school. He had led tours in many places. When talking about Sapporo, he shared stories of some clients’ special habits, some of which coincided with my own dreams.

Before Spring Festival in 2011, he quit his job. I dragged him with me to Sapporo numerous times. Only after truly experiencing it did I realize that my childhood dream was indeed so tasteful. That pleasure is indescribable; it satisfied all my fantasies. Do you understand what I mean?" Wang Kaitao shared.

Xu Dayuan nodded.

"Although I don’t understand, I do comprehend what you’ve said. So, you started taking on a lot of work to earn money and satisfy this need of yours. But why did you harm Zhang Wannian and Liu Xiangrui?" Xu Dayuan inquired.

Wang Kaitao snorted, interlocking his fingers as the handcuffs clinked on the small table, making a clear sound.

"I’m willing to talk. But even if I do, will you believe me? I never intended to kill anyone; precisely, I didn’t physically murder anyone. And Liu Xiangrui’s death has nothing to do with me. As for Zhang Wannian, I was just helping. Do you understand?" Wang Kaitao posited.

Xu Dayuan’s brows furrowed, and he shook his head slightly.

"Then explain it to me. How can I understand if you don’t speak? As for belief, I’ll judge that after you’ve spoken." Xu Dayuan pressed.

Wang Kaitao pondered for a moment and then laughed at himself sarcastically.

"I don’t know how to explain it, not sure where to even begin. I know you all look down on someone like me. You think that me, going to Sapporo every month and liking young girls, am psychologically unhealthy. That’s putting it politely. Most people would just call me a pervert, right?" Wang Kaitao admitted.

At this point, Wang Kaitao paused and looked straight into Xu Dayuan’s eyes.

"I admit, I lied to Zhang Song, asking for money in the name of Liu Xiangrui and transferred the money to an account in Sapporo. But I didn’t kill anyone; Liu Xiangrui and Zhang Wannian’s deaths were not by my hand!" he declared.
