Chapter 329: Chapter 319: Open the Skylight_1
Mr. Zhao rolled his eyes.
"What’s the difference, let’s get on with it!"
Yang Xuetong went over to the front half of the car that had been cut open. It had suffered a violent collision; many parts were deformed. The car windows had long been gone, and the doors were seriously distorted, although the passenger door seemed to be relatively intact.
Reaching into a crevice, he felt a few Care Bears.
There was nothing else. The glove compartment wouldn’t open. After Jimmying with a screwdriver for quite a while, Yang finally pried open a small gap and forcefully took it apart. The contents nearly slipped out, but Yang quickly caught them. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
Syringes and a plastic pot with tubes scattered everywhere, and among them fell a not-so-large bag, containing many small white bags filled with a bulging powder that stood out prominently.
Mr. Zhao, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, hurried over with a collection box to gather the items, all the while lamenting.
"Damn, he went all out. No wonder he was so agitated, challenging me to a race. He must have been hallucinating! Check the door on that side, see if there’s anything?"
"What do you mean by ’went all out’?"
"Don’t you know? Going all out refers to injecting drugs directly into the carotid artery or femoral vein. The drugs go straight to the brain through the bloodstream. It’s incredibly dangerous and can lead to instant death from cardiac arrest."
Yang nodded, reached into the driver’s side door gap, and pulled out a sticky substance. He nearly dropped it with a shudder of disgust.
"Mr. Zhao, save me, quick! Hand me an evidence bag!"
Mr. Zhao glanced over and laughed until his eyes were nearly shut.
"You dive in whenever you’re told. Look at it, brother, don’t move, don’t shake. What’s the fuss over a snot-filled Care Bear? Take off your gloves and throw them in together."
Yang hurriedly complied, pulling off his gloves and tossing them into the evidence bag.
"What kind of hobby is this? Why keep used ones?"
"People with special fetishes are dime a dozen. The world of the rich is not like ours. This kid seems to have been spoiled rotten. But he won’t be causing trouble now. Seeing the way he was carried out, he’s probably suffered damage to either his lumbar or thoracic spine. Zhou Xiaozhou has mentioned such injuries are hard to repair; he’ll likely rely on a wheelchair for life."
As they talked, their hands didn’t slow down, quickly conducting a second thorough search. They didn’t overlook a speck of dust on the ground and extracted more than twenty fingerprints.
"Let’s go. Let’s take this stuff to the forensic department. The victim’s family should be arriving soon; it’s been over an hour."
Carrying four large organizers, they struggled toward the main entrance of the technical division. From a distance, they saw Xu Dayuan approaching with his team. Spotting them, Xu hurriedly waved to Mr. Bai and Mr. Zeng, who came over quickly to help.
"Just the two of you?"
Mr. Zhao gave a disdainful look.
"We’re the only two trace examiners in our group. What are you implying, that you want to switch to trace examination? I’ll have a word with Director Xu for you, he’ll definitely approve."
Mr. Bai instantly shut up, a simple, honest smile on his face.
"Mr. Zhao, I’m just here to help, no need to get worked up."
"Hmph, get to work, and keep the chatter to a minimum. We’re so busy we could kick ourselves in the back of the head, and you don’t even think to get some auxiliary police to lend a hand. This isn’t a call for reinforcements, and you blame me for being impatient?"
Just then, Xu Dayuan approached. Glancing at Mr. Zhao, who instantly put on a smile, he saw the middle-aged couple following behind, presumably Fu Wendan’s parents. Mr. Zhao quickly gestured upstairs with his chin.
"Director Xu, please go on in; they are waiting in the autopsy room. We’ll send the sample and join you shortly."
Xu Dayuan hummed an acknowledgment and led the couple toward Autopsy Room Number Two. Initially a high-decomposition autopsy room, since Zhou Ning started working here, it had essentially become his personal domain.
Liu Yufei entered the room first and, after a moment, opened the door to signal Xu Dayuan to come in.
"Come on, go in and make the identification."
The couple, clutching each other’s arms, entered the doors of the autopsy room. Upon seeing the body on the autopsy table, the woman’s legs gave way, and she collapsed to the ground before crawling towards the table.
"Da Man’er, please wake up! Mommy’s here to pick you up."
The man also broke down in tears and helped his wife to her feet. They reached out to touch the deceased’s cheek, but Zhou Ning stopped them.
"Take a look at the deceased and confirm if she is your daughter Fu Wendan. The body can’t be touched for now. We haven’t conducted the post-mortem examination yet. Touching it could tamper with our findings, which wouldn’t be conducive to catching the killer."
The man looked bewildered, his gaze shifting woodenly to Zhou Ning, and then finally resting on Xu Dayuan.
"Killer? My daughter was murdered?"
Xu Dayuan nodded, took the confirmation document that Liu Yongxin handed over, and gave the man a pen as well.
"We urgently called you here for this purpose. We found Fu Wendan’s body at the car accident scene, but she didn’t die from the accident. She had been killed before the crash occured.
If you are certain this is Fu Wendan, please sign the confirmation document. Then come out and talk with me. We need to understand Fu Wendan’s background in detail. The more precise we are, the better the chances of solving the case. I assume you also want to catch the killer as soon as possible, right?"
The same words, spoken from Xu Dayuan’s mouth, carried such sincerity that it was hard to refuse. Fu Wendan’s father, Fu Yingjun, took the document, while the woman beside him shook her head continuously, grasping the white cloth that covered the body.
"No, no, we can’t let them dissect our Da Man’er. She loved to look pretty; I can’t let her be left in ruins."
Xu Dayuan glanced over, understanding the state they were in. After all, many people’s first reaction to such an incident is to refuse. Parents express it differently, but it all stems from love for their child.
"In criminal cases, we have the authority to perform autopsies directly. However, considering that this girl is so young, not even eighteen years old, we hoped you could come and see her one last time before we proceed. After all, I am a father myself and understand your feelings."
At those words, the woman could no longer bear it and burst into tears. Liu Yufei helped her out of the room. Fu Yingjun quickly signed the document and handed it back to Xu Dayuan, then bowed to him deeply.
"Thank you. I’m not a good father. I failed to educate my child well and protect her. I just want to know who the killer is and hope that justice will be served. We trust the government."
Xu Dayuan helped Fu Yingjun up and led him outside. Mr. Zhao and his colleagues, having finished sending in the sample, had just returned and entered the autopsy room. Seeing that the examination had not started yet, they quickly approached.
"Wasn’t our speed just the ticket? We’ve found quite a few things and already sent them off for testing."
Zhou Ning looked towards Mr. Zhao and asked with a slight tilt of his head:
"What did you find?"
Mr. Zhao connected his camera to the large screen, which displayed a series of photos. He gave a detailed introduction of the findings, emphasizing where each item was discovered. Zhou Ning listened and furrowed his brows slightly.
A seventeen-year-old girl attending an art school and involved in model training—a notoriously chaotic industry well-known to everyone. But seeing these tools, Zhou Ning was still surprised.
Could it be that this girl was also involved with drugs?
