Chapter 684: Chapter 536: Ambush
Perhaps because they had put some distance between them, Yang Xiao no longer heard the footsteps of the other party. He could only slowly follow the direction in which the footsteps had last faded away; that was another corridor, a region Yang Xiao had not yet searched.
At the same time, he did not forget his most crucial task—to find the rag doll’s body, to search for rooms along the corridor where the body might be hidden.
Staying close to the left wall, Yang Xiao mimicked the "bad" entity’s posture, treading very lightly, his right hand clutching the kitchen knife tightly.
Passing by many departments and some strange rooms along the way, soon, Yang Xiao stopped in his tracks, deep in thought as he stared at the room before him.
It was a door painted sky blue, very wide, of the double-opening kind, and it looked very solid. Having come this far, this was the first time he had seen such a style of door. Of course, what most drew his attention was the sign hanging on the door:
Confession Room.
"Why would a hospital have such a place?" Yang Xiao frowned. In his understanding, a Confession Room should be something found in a Catholic church.
There was also a threshold in front of the door, wooden, wrapped in black lacquer that had started to peel off, revealing the original color of the wood underneath. Besides that, there were two deep indentations on the threshold, one on the left and one on the right, less than 1 meter apart, as if something had been regularly coming in and out, leaving marks.
Considering the context of the hospital, the first thing Yang Xiao thought of was the kind of patient transport trolley commonly seen in hospitals.
That is to say, this Confession Room was frequently used by patients coming and going, and the so-called patients here were likely rag dolls, which successfully piqued Yang Xiao’s curiosity.
The door was not locked; there was a gap as wide as two fingers between the two door panels. Yang Xiao turned sideways, held his breath, and peered inside through the gap.
Inside the Confession Room, it was dim, but not completely dark. His gaze slowly scanned across, and he could vaguely see some vague dark outlines that looked like several large cabinets placed against the wall, each over a meter tall, chilling. More unsettling was that there was a surgical table placed in the middle of the room.
Most of the surgical table was shielded by a blue medical screen, with less than a third visible. Yang Xiao suddenly had a thought—he suspected that there might be a body lying on the surgical table.
This was not a Confession Room; it should be a transformation room instead. After pondering for a while, Yang Xiao still did not push the door open. Judging by the feeling coming through the gap, the inside of the Confession Room was not very cold, so it was unlikely to be a hiding place for the body. There was no need for him to take the risk.
In any case, this place was unsettling.
Yang Xiao turned around and left, continuing to move forward along the side of the corridor. But just as he had gone a distance, the door of the Confession Room opened without any wind, slowly pulled open just enough to accommodate a person slipping through sideways.
As he walked and observed, Yang Xiao gained a deeper understanding of the chaos within the hospital. Not far ahead was the end of the corridor. He had almost finished searching the entire third floor and had not found any rooms that met the requirements. Next, he needed to make a choice: to go upstairs or downstairs. Logically, the Morgue should be located in the basement level of the hospital, but things here could not be assumed by normal logic.
Additionally, there was one thing that had been troubling him—where had the "bad" entity gone? Had it gone upstairs, or downstairs?
Just as Yang Xiao was deep in thought, suddenly, his footsteps came to a sudden halt. He heard a very light sound of footsteps right behind him!
Reacting purely on instinct, Yang Xiao spun around, swinging his knife in the same motion. The knife hit something, but it didn’t feel like it struck flesh; it was more like striking stone. Then, he felt a pain in his abdomen and was kicked to the ground.
Lying on his back, he felt a gust of wind aiming for his face. Yang Xiao pressed one hand against the wall, using the reaction force to roll sideways.
"Bang!"
The next second, a heavy flower pot smashed down where he had been, shards and soil scattering everywhere, a withered dead flower exposed before Yang Xiao’s eyes.
"It’s the guy from before!"
Yang Xiao swung his knife furiously in front of him, trying to prevent the other from getting close. But after missing with its attack, the figure turned and ran, the footsteps heading towards the end of the corridor. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
Just as Yang Xiao got up, he heard a horrifying sound. The thud of big boots on the cold concrete floor, "thud, thud," resonated heavily. He turned his head to see a figure rushing at him at an incredibly fast speed from near the elevator, a pair of large scissors in hand imposing a threatening presence.
It was "Frog"!
The rotten-eyed ghost!
Without time to think, as he had already been spotted, playing dead was no longer an option—the figure could knock him over with a charge. He needed to quickly get out of the rotten-eyed ghost’s line of sight and then pretend to be motionless again to hide.
Darting into a nearby room was the quickest way, but not feasible—"Frog" might be blind but wasn’t stupid. If he was cornered by it in a room, the consequences were unpredictable.
Yang Xiao immediately started running forward, not far ahead was the end of the corridor, a corner with stairs leading up and down, and a larger space. The one who had ambushed him had run in that direction.
"Thud."
"Thud."
"Thud."
The boot sounds behind him were like a death knell. In the nick of time, Yang Xiao finally made it to the corner and out of "Frog’s" line of sight. He pressed himself against the wall, sticking as tightly as possible behind the corner, daring not to move an inch.
Sure enough, the next second, "Frog" charged past, swinging the large scissors and stabbing them into the wall across from Yang Xiao.
"Screech—"
As the blade was slowly pulled out, Yang Xiao swallowed nervously, seeing a terrifying gash appear on what was once a decently smooth wall.
