Chapter 495: Chapter 429: Ghost Biting Incident

Perhaps knowing Yang Xiao’s personality, Lu Youdao did not continue speaking. Instead, he reminded Yang Xiao that he had recently heard news that members of the Yu Yuan Sect were appearing in Rongcheng, though their purpose was still unclear.

Yang Xiao immediately thought of what Tong Han had said, that the Yu Yuan Sect must have come here at Mo Daidai’s invitation, to sever the ties and grudges with Tong Han for good.

Of course, there was no need for him to explain any of this to Lu Youdao.

Yang Xiao’s silence seemed to hold additional meanings in Lu Youdao’s view. Lu Youdao gave Yang Xiao a calming look and comforted him, "However, you need not worry too much. All the Patrol Divisions in Rongcheng are paying attention to this matter. Director Huang Guozhao has already assigned Captain Qu Muzhi to take full responsibility for this. As soon as those fellows are spotted, they will be executed on the spot."

"Captain Qu Muzhi of the first team of the Rongcheng Patrol Division?" Yang Xiao had heard much about him but had yet to meet him.

Lu Youdao nodded, "Yes, him. You need to push yourself harder. Your Director Nalan thinks highly of you and intends to support you to rival Captain Qu someday. You might not match his talents, but when it comes to dealing with people and flattering them, ten of him can’t compare to you."

Yang Xiao was momentarily taken aback, unable to discern if Lu Youdao was mocking or praising him. However, he was also curious about the demeanor of this captain of the first team of the Rongcheng Patrol Division and couldn’t resist asking, "Senior Lu, what sort of person is this Captain Qu?"

"Decisive and ruthless, hating evil as if it were his foe, he never shows mercy to his enemies. In cultivation, he is a rare genius. Based on my knowledge of the Yu Yuan Sect, there are few who possess his talents. Like you, he has more than one Resentful Eye in his possession. Moreover, it is said that his abilities are extremely peculiar. Even if his opponent’s Resentful Eye is of a higher order than his, they still find it tough to gain any advantage. He is indeed a formidable person."

Pausing, Lu Youdao sighed, "Over the years, the heretic cultivators who have died at his hands number not just in dozens but include Venerable Level practitioners."

Receiving such high praise from Lu Youdao, it seemed the rumors were not unfounded. Yang Xiao had heard of this Captain Qu Muzhi for years; he had been capable of single-handedly slaying Venerable Level Heretic Cultivators years ago and was undeniably the leader among the 14 captains of the Rongcheng Patrol Division. "Now I can also slay Venerable Level Heretic Cultivators, but I wonder how I compare to this Captain Qu Muzhi," Yang Xiao thought reflexively.

After asking his questions, Yang Xiao left. Lu Youdao reminded him to be careful recently, with a Soul-Capturing Mirror in his possession, the Yu Yuan Sect would not let it go easily.

Yang Xiao was well aware of this. Having slain Staff Killing Elder Granny Hong, the next one to come would definitely be much more troublesome, likely one of the top figures among the Venerables. However, Yang Xiao was not afraid; he would face whatever came his way robustly, killing one if one came, slaying a pair if two came. If one day his strength was fully developed, the first thing he would do was eradicate the Yu Yuan Sect.

Two days went by peacefully; Yang Xiao worked during the day and slept soundly at night. After being severely wounded, the Mirror Ghost had become much more submissive, until around 9:00 PM on the third day when Yang Xiao suddenly received a call. It was from Beibei, who reported an urgent assignment.

By the time Yang Xiao had grabbed his backpack and descended the stairs, Beibei had already arrived and was waiting in the car in front of the apartment building. The back seat also held Xi Menxiu, wearing pajamas and looking half asleep.

"What’s the situation?" Yang Xiao asked after getting in the car, as the call had been quite hasty and he only knew that an unusual event had occurred.

"A supernatural incident erupted in South City Scientists’ Garden, resulting in two deaths and a disappearance," Beibei stated concisely.

"South City?" Yang Xiao frowned, "Isn’t that the jurisdiction of the Luming Bureau? Why have they turned to us?" freewebnovёl.ƈom

"It’s Director Fang of the Luming Bureau who requested our Director’s assistance. The matter is of great significance and is said to involve a religious cult, likely related to the Yu Yuan Sect." Beibei explained as she drove, "Given its importance, the Luming Bureau dared not handle it alone. Besides us, they have also contacted Director Huang Guozhao of the Chengxin Public Office. This time it’s a joint effort between several offices."

The mention of the Yu Yuan Sect again, just as Lu Youdao predicted, made Yang Xiao wary. He had a sense that something odd was going on.

Shortly, they arrived at the Patrol Division. By then, Nalan Shuo was already waiting in the meeting room. Da Xiong and Yu Shu had arrived earlier and were seated on opposite sides of the long table. Including Yang Xiao, the entire investigation team was now present.

Nalan Shuo distributed several documents and then began explicating the situation with a rather grim expression. It turned out that just half an hour earlier, a team from the Luming Bureau that had gone to investigate the case had experienced a mishap, and one of their members had disappeared without a trace.

"How could they dare to split up under such unclear circumstances?" Beibei asked in confusion, not understanding how the Luming Bureau’s personnel could make such a fundamental mistake.

Nalan Shuo corrected her, "They didn’t split up; the missing person had been following right behind the team. He just vanished suddenly."

"Just vanished while walking?" Xi Menxiu’s voice was low and faint. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"Yes, according to their report, it happened in no more than 10 seconds," Nalan Shuo indicated for everyone to look at the documents on the table.

After opening the documents and carefully reading through them, Yang Xiao roughly understood the sequence of events. The incident had not occurred today but had already resulted in a death the previous night, although initially, no one had thought in that direction.

A photo was tucked inside the documents; it showed a girl’s corpse, lying sidelong in a bush. Judging by the physique, she was around 7 or 8 years old. Her white dress was torn and almost entirely soaked in blood.
