Chapter 1741: Chapter 1001: Ghost Call
Thoughts drifting back, leaning on the back of the chair, Yang Xiao couldn’t help but sigh, everything seemed predestined in some way. Back then, he wrote horror scripts to entertain his friends, and now the ghost script seemed to be watching him, pulling him down faster than a normal person.
"I, Yang Xiao, have spent my whole life doing good deeds, and it’s all because of that evil female demon of the Heavenly Water Pavilion. If there ever comes a day when she falls into my hands, she will certainly pay the price!" This is the Nightmare World, and the good elder sister is blocked here, so Yang Xiao dared to speak his mind.
This was the first night at the hotel, and Yang Xiao was highly alert. For the first hour or so, there was nothing out of the ordinary, except for the occasional sound of wind outside the window. The corridor was very quiet, which also confirmed Yang Xiao’s suspicion that they were the only living people in this hotel.
Gradually, the time approached 9:30, and Yang Xiao vaguely heard some noises coming from downstairs. Before long, the sounds reached the stairwell next to his room; he heard it clearly—it was a series of footsteps.
Someone, or rather something, was coming upstairs.
The footsteps did not attempt to conceal themselves, neither heavy nor light, very distinct in the stillness of the night.
As per the agreement, the person responsible for patrolling the night on the first floor ought to be either Jiu Shan Sha Yue or Police Chief Takeda Yuji.
Of course, it might be something else, and Yang Xiao needed to judge for himself.
The footsteps were getting closer and more distinct, and Yang Xiao judged from the steps that it was most likely Jiu Shan Sha Yue. After all, Mitsuo Takeda’s stature was quite sturdy, and his footsteps should be heavier.
Quickly, the visitor seemed to notice this room, and the footsteps stopped outside the door. After all, Yang Xiao’s door had a conspicuous service counter sign on it.
At this moment, Yang Xiao also stood up vigilantly, quietly approaching the door, confronting whatever was outside with the door between them. Neither party spoke.
This door had a peephole to view the corridor outside, and Yang Xiao used a notebook he casually picked up to cover the peephole, creating the illusion that someone was watching from inside.
Once, Yang Xiao had written a script with a similar situation: a man living alone at night heard a knock on the door. Groggy, he looked through the peephole, only to have a female ghost outside blind him through the peephole with her deformed, sharp fingers, piercing a hole in the back of his head.
"It’s me." Outside the door came the deliberately lowered voice of Jiu Shan Sha Yue.
Yang Xiao simultaneously put down the notebook while quickly leaning to take a glance through the peephole outside. Sure enough, it was Jiu Shan Sha Yue standing there, with a flashlight in hand.
"Miss Xin Huan, do you have anything?" Yang Xiao asked tentatively, pretending not to recognize her.
"Miss Xin Huan has nothing, Jiu Shan Sha Yue does, if it’s inconvenient for you, I’ll speak from outside." Jiu Shan Sha Yue replied concisely.
"How many of you came?" Yang Xiao asked.
"Me, you, Beiyu Ye, Tong Han—we are on the 1st, 7th, 2nd, and 5th floors respectively. I’ve confirmed with Beiyu Ye and Tong Han about their residences; they also know I’ve been there." Outside, Jiu Shan Sha Yue answered in detail, knowing any slight anomaly could lead to misjudgment by the teammates, causing catastrophic consequences.
"How is Tong Han’s situation?" Yang Xiao asked again.
"She’s fine, responded to me with knocking sounds but didn’t speak or open the door for me." Jiu Shan Sha Yue replied truthfully.
This aligns with Yang Xiao’s understanding of Tong Han; she is a cautious person, not trusting anyone except herself, defensive even towards Jiu Shan Sha Yue and Beiyu Ye, due to her nature.
Yang Xiao liked such people, who, albeit lived tiredly due to their caution, lived longer.
Yang Xiao quietly unlocked the door but didn’t open it, then quickly retreated, opening the glass door into the resting room, and re-locking the glass door behind him, signaling for Jiu Shan Sha Yue to push the door open by herself.
But the door didn’t move, and after a moment, Jiu Shan Sha Yue’s voice was heard again, "What is your relation to Tong Han?"
"We are friends, but you all think we are a couple; I didn’t explain because I feared the more I explained, the worse it would become." Yang Xiao said, "She is my brother."
The next second, the outer door was pushed open, and Jiu Shan Sha Yue came in while Yang Xiao was crouching halfway in the resting room, hiding behind the glass door, watching her through the gap of the glass door.
Seeing this, Jiu Shan Sha Yue also relaxed slightly; she too was worried that Yang Xiao had issues, hence asked questions to test him, but seeing him acting all cowardly, she was convinced he was not something disguised.
She believed even ghosts had limits, but according to the intel they collected, Yang Xiao’s bottom line was very questionable.
"There’s something wrong with this hotel, I observed on the way, it seemed to have been abandoned for a long time before being recently renovated." freewёbnoνel.com
"Judging by the hotel’s scale and structure, a large investment was made; there’s no reason to abandon it without cause, so something terrible must have happened here, not recently, but long ago." Jiu Shan Sha Yue analyzed, "At least 10 years."
"I agree with your point, but clearly, strange things have happened here recently too, otherwise the renovation wouldn’t have stopped halfway; I assume someone encountered something strange. Those guys bought us here because of that." Yang Xiao supplemented.
"You’re right; that’s also a point Mitsuo Takeda and I considered. We found some clues in the security office downstairs too." Jiu Shan Sha Yue replied.
Seemingly thinking of something, Yang Xiao asked about another person, "By the way, have you heard of Qingshui Cangjie? He seems quite famous."
