Chapter 1436: Chapter 891: It’s Here (Part 4)

But there was no surprise, only silence answered her. Standing in front of the open door, there were a few pieces of unpacked clothing on the floor, but no one was there.

At that moment, Chen Moting’s heart went cold. She retreated in fear, unable to understand what was happening.

She had done nothing, and she had survived the crisis of last night. Why... why?

It was broad daylight, with blinding sunlight outside. How could this be happening?

But it was too late to think about why, as Chen Moting was overcome with a severe sense of impending doom. Leaning against the wall, she abruptly rolled up her sleeves, revealing a layer of goosebumps on her arm.

This was an instinct from a seasoned player; she sensed an enormous crisis approaching, one that could very well be fatal.

But the most frustrating part was that she had no idea what the thing was, or why it was after her.

Logically, she should have been the safest person today. She had successfully passed the test last night, and someone else had already died—Su Xiaomin!

She couldn’t understand why something was still after her. It was like an inescapable curse, hunting her down until she died.

Run!

There was only one thought in Chen Moting’s mind now: run as far as she could. Being an experienced player, she wasn’t about to sit and wait for death.

Even though what was happening was beyond her experience, she believed that the task did not have a dead end, at least not at this stage.

She still had a chance. She still wanted to live! freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Panic surged through her as she immediately turned and ran down the corridor. Based on her experience from last night, the ghost thing that killed her and Su Xiaomin had limitations—it needed to lure them out the door to attack. So, Chen Moting decided that no matter what happened today, she wouldn’t leave the company premises recklessly, especially not through the office’s glass door.

Running along the corridor, the anomalies became increasingly apparent. Black and gray ashes began to appear in the air, accompanied by a burnt smell.

"It’s the smell of burning bodies!" This scent was familiar to Chen Moting; she had smelled it on Su Xiaomin’s body.

But strangely, she only smelled the burnt odor and saw the floating ashes in the air, without fire or thick smoke—unlike last night’s ghostly appearance.

Chen Moting’s heartbeat quickened as the suppressive sense of impending death grew stronger. She could feel something searching for her, and it was getting closer.

"No, this time it’s different from last night’s ghosts. This one is scarier!"

Having encountered the burnt ghost last night, Chen Moting could feel the oppressive force this new entity exerted was completely different from the ones last night.

"Is it the Source Ghost?" Chen Moting hid in an empty room to avoid detection. "Can the Source Ghost kill regardless of day or night?"

She listened intently and peeked through the gap in the door. She didn’t hear any extra sounds or see anything unusual, but she had a feeling that the entity had come, right outside in the corridor.

It was searching for her room by room!

In that moment, Chen Moting was torn. She didn’t know whether to follow her instinct to run or rely on past experience and find cover to hide.

But she had no time to waste, so in the end, she followed her instincts, swung open the door, and continued sprinting to the other side of the corridor.

At the end was a large abandoned office, filled with desks, chairs, discarded boxes, and file cabinets, with many blind spots perfect for hiding.

She didn’t expect to hide from the eyes of the ghost—this was unrealistic. Not to mention it’s a ghost; even a few people with enough time could find her.

What she needed was to buy as much time as possible. Once a certain time had passed, the ghost would leave.

She quickly reached the innermost office, where Chen Moting clearly sensed a malicious, icy power lingering in the corridor. Yet every time she stopped to sense it carefully, the feeling would weirdly vanish.

She couldn’t accurately judge its position, which put immense pressure on her.

However, she could vaguely sense that the entity was indeed getting closer.

"I can’t wait any longer. Maybe if I move, that ghost can detect my location. I must find a hidden place to hide."

Chen Moting was a person of action, daring to think and act. She dashed to the very back of the abandoned office, spotting a large dark file cabinet with its door ajar.

There was no time to hesitate. With gritted determination, Chen Moting swung the cabinet door open, slipped inside, then gently closed the door, holding her breath and peering through the gap.

Even though it was daytime, the floating ashes in the air increased, darkening and oppressing the office’s environment, severely impeding Chen Moting’s vision.

Time ticked by slowly, and hidden in the cabinet, Chen Moting dared not breathe heavily. Strangely, after entering this confined space, her perception of the outside world became unfamiliar, while the oppressive, icy feeling diminished.

This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Chen Moting boldly guessed that this perception was mutual; as she could sense the entity, it could sense her.

Now that she was hiding in a concealed spot, its perception of her was considerably weakened.

Chen Moting prayed in her heart for it to leave quickly. She knew the ghost’s time here was limited, and perhaps soon, it would be time for it to leave.

Indeed, a few minutes later, the oppressive feeling shrouding Chen Moting’s heart gradually dissipated, even the black ashes in the air cleared a lot. Everything was in this.
