Chapter 1188: Chapter 798: Trust No One
Almost instinctively, everyone looked at Aisha, the last person to have contact with Shari and the only one likely to know the truth.
"Impossible!" Aisha, having snapped back to her senses, was extremely terrified, her face pale and lips purple, almost shouting, "She fell off the hill, those ghosts caught up, right behind her!"
"She couldn’t survive! No one could survive in such a situation!"
Aisha’s reaction was expected; Yang Xiao didn’t believe that a newcomer who had been missing for a night could return unscathed, unless the one returning wasn’t human.
"It’s a ghost, a ghost trying to sneak in." Maria pressed her lips tightly, staring in the direction of the door, as if the ghost would appear at any second.
"Ghost? What ghost wants to sneak in?" Davi was frightened, shivering violently.
She couldn’t understand, initially relieved upon learning that the teammate missing overnight was safe, yet seeing everyone’s reactions, it seemed they didn’t want Shari to return safely.
Like her, Shari was also an unwelcomed newcomer, which naturally fostered a sense of kindred spirit with Shari and the others.
The messenger left after delivering the news, leaving only Yang Xiao’s group in the room, speaking without restraint, likely arranged by the middle-aged monk, who held great prestige in the town.
"No way, can’t let her come back, whether she’s human or ghost, we must kill her!" Juan’s expression was fierce, making a throat-slitting gesture with a knife.
His words created a huge uproar, thoroughly angering the newcomers. Ahmed and Hafeez immediately objected; they might lack experience, but they’re not stupid.
These guys didn’t even consider the newcomers as people. Being bossy before was one thing, but now wanting to kill upon a safe return? How does that make sense?
If they didn’t resist now, they might be next.
"What gives you the right to kill?" Ahmed, big and strong, erupted like a bull.
Hafeez was also unwilling to relent, grabbing a wooden stick from behind the door for defense, standing alongside Ahmed, coldly staring at Juan.
Juan, who wasn’t fazed, didn’t take the two seriously, leisurely squatting on a chair, sneering, "What, you two little guys dare to fight me?"
The next second, Hafeez swung the stick, taking Juan by surprise. To avoid it, he rolled off the chair, with a loud "bang" as the stick hit the back of the chair hard.
Humiliated, Juan cursed, and a quick kip-up brought him to his feet, murder flashing in his beady eyes, "You’re courting death!!"
"If you don’t leave us any way to survive, we’ll fight to the death!" Hafeez didn’t back down, and the statement wasn’t just for Juan but represented all newcomers’ rebellion against the veterans.
To Yang Xiao’s surprise, not only Ahmed and Hafeez but even the always meek Davi stood up, eyes bloodshot, holding a wooden cudgel, ready to fight anyone.
Among the four newcomers in the room, only Sopa remained calm, not directly expressing herself, but she too stood up, calling for everyone to calm down.
Yang Xiao didn’t expect the newcomers from Myanmar and Thailand to be so tough, quite temperamental, ready to act spontaneously.
"Enough!" At this moment, Imam Musa had to step forward to calm the situation, "What are you doing, causing internal conflict? Put down your weapons, isn’t it chaotic enough?" fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"Juan, can’t you speak nicely? Look at the misunderstanding you’ve caused!"
Juan coldly glared at Ahmed and the others, finally swallowing his anger; after all, he couldn’t possibly kill all the newcomers.
Even if he were capable, the other veterans couldn’t allow such behavior.
He wouldn’t dare, because he wasn’t foolish.
Seeing Juan had calmed down, Musa turned to Ahmed and the others, earnestly urging, "Alright, let this matter rest. You are entering a world like this for the first time, and there’s much you don’t know. Juan meant no harm; he’s thinking about the safety of us all."
"I’ve told you before, there really are ghosts in this world, and they’re more troublesome than you can imagine. They’ll use any means to kill us, including disguising as familiar people."
"Based on our experience, the chances of Shari surviving are very slim; most likely, the one who came back isn’t her."
Musa paused, turning his head towards the door’s direction, continuing in a low voice, "It’s quite possibly a ghost."
"But you can’t just kill on a whim; what if you’re wrong? That’s still a living person." Hafeez argued reasonably, clutching the stick tightly, "Are our newbie lives worthless?"
Musa shook his head, "No, you’re wrong. In the face of those things, it makes no difference between newcomers and veterans. Generally, if a teammate is missing for more than 2 hours, especially at night, we assume they’re dead."
Though his ears listened to Musa and the others’ argument, Yang Xiao’s attention subconsciously focused on the young girl named Sopa.
She had two braided pigtails, appearing in her early twenties, with fair skin and some scattered freckles on her face.
She wasn’t very old, but her earlier demeanor caught Yang Xiao’s attention. She was calm and composed, putting herself in a relatively safe position during the crisis, a cool-headed person.
