Chapter 249: Blood bond

The mountain range trembled beneath his tyrannical presence, with several earth-shaking vibrations reverberating through the ground.

Klein roared defiantly, more monster than man at this point then launched upward soaring through the air with uncanny speed.

His massive body had swollen to nearly nine feet in height, every inch of him radiating terrifying physical power.

Molten cracks spread across his darkened skin, pulsating with incandescent orange light from beneath.

Each movement through the air released violent waves of heat, setting the air ablaze around him.

The air exploded behind him from the force of his leap as he tore through the sky like a blazing meteor.

His glowing eyes burned like twin furnaces, filled with primal fury and battlelust so intense that Merlin hesitated for a bit staring down at him. A web of jagged cracks spread upward, the ground exploding violently in his wake, the ground hissing and steaming as the rocks instantly turned molten.

Clara attacked simultaneously, extending both arms outward as enormous glaciers erupted from the ground below.

Her heightened ability, Frozen Dominion, granted her increased spatial awareness on top of the already monstrous manifold boost to her primary ability.

As a class A-6, she was already a force to be reckoned with.

But within her Dominion, she became something more.

Frozen Dominion was a secret of the Brewer family and with it, she instantly became aware of every fluctuation in temperature and the smallest particles of moisture in the air and even the tiniest of movements would not escape her near omniscient perception of the battlefield.

At least that was how it was supposed to work, but as she was now finding out, there were exceptions to the rule.

And the man hovering in the air itself turned out, to be one such exception.

Jagged spears of ice spanning hundreds of meters long shot upward toward Merlin from every direction and for a brief moment, he seemed truly trapped.

A split second later, Klein materialized beside Merlin.

His flaming fist collided with Merlin’s barrier in a catastrophic explosion that split the clouds apart.

BOOOOOOOOM!

*****

Inside the safety of the mansion, Emily gasped watching the devastating battle in shock.

The difference in classes was made more evident then.

"Fight....fight..."She thought, staring at the distant battlefield with a hardened gaze.

"Win!"

******

Thunderous shockwaves rippled across the mountain range.

Avalanches thundered down distant cliffs as entire sections of frozen earth collapsed beneath the force of the impact.

For several brief seconds, Klein actually pushed Merlin backward.

Merlin’s silver eyes shone with a mixture of amusement and surprise.

A moment later, Clara’s eyes flashed with azure brilliance.

The jagged spears of ice under her control converged instantly in a deadly pincer attack that cut off all routes of escape.

Titanic walls of ice crashed inward from every direction, sealing Merlin within a colossal frozen prison suspended high above the mountains.

CRACK!

A single line of silver light appeared within the intricate glacier, bisecting into two clean pieces

CRAAAAACK.

The entire frozen structure shattered apart instantly.

Merlin stepped forward through drifting shards of ice, silver lightning crackling ominously around his body while his glowing eyes regarded them both with terrifying calmness.

"You’ve mistaken my restraint for weakness," he said softly, his lips curling into an amused smile.

The storm above them exploded with renewed violence.

Countless bolts of silver lightning descended from the heavens simultaneously, illuminating the frozen world beneath in blinding radiance. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Klein roared defiantly, golden flames erupting wildly around him as he charged once more.

Clara raised both hands, summoning an avalanche of frozen destruction around them and slowly rising into the air herself.

From the mansion Victor watched the spectacle unfold with a gleeful smile then elegantly whipped out an intricate masterfully crafted pocketwatch, taking a glance at the time.

"It seems dinner will be delayed at this rate," he murmured.

He sighed turning his attention back to the battle.

*****

Silver lightning split the heavens apart while molten fire and glacial storms ravaged the world below.

Entire sections of the green plains within the dome vanished beneath shattered ice, burning craters, and the rapidly collapsing mountainside.

Far above the battlefield, Merlin hovered amidst the raging storm with terrifying calmness.

And yet—still....Clara could feel that he was holding himself back.

And that realization unsettled her far more than she cared to admit because it meant they were fighting a losing battle.

Klein burst forward again in a blazing explosion of golden fire, his gigantic molten frame tearing through the sky with enough force to distort the surrounding air.

Merlin casually raised a hand.

BOOM.

Klein was blasted sideways through a nearby mountain peak, instantly starting a small landslide of dirt, gravel, and large boulders.

"I tire of the charade. Do you both simply refuse to see the truth for what it is? You cannot defeat me. Not today."

The entire summit was slowly coming apart in a violent shower of stone, snow, and molten debris but downtown, the large mansion remained intact.

Clara threw the large building a glance, almost as though trying to see beyond its walls to the girl within.

Before Clara could even react, Merlin appeared directly before her, bypassing the boundaries of her Frozen dominion.

A wave of searing pain invaded her mind stealing a groan from her lips.

Merlin like the anomaly he was, stood in the midst of her ability with a small smile on his lips.

The snow melted around him, even the fierce sleet and ice, moving as though alive refused to touch him, instead moving harmlessly past him.

The fierce blizzard that was ravaging everything else was simply a stroll in the park for him.

His silver eyes met her azure ones.

For the first time since arriving here, Clara felt genuine danger crawling down her spine.

"You should leave," Merlin said quietly.

There was no mockery in his voice this time.

Only a sense of cold finality.

Clara’s eyes hardened.

"And abandon the girl?" she asked coldly.

A storm of frost erupted outward from her body as she instantly retreated backward through the sky.

"She carries Brewer blood. Whether she understands it or not, she belongs with us."

Merlin’s gaze darkened faintly.

" You don’t know that. And another thing you seem to misunderstand—she belongs to herself, and for the time being, she is my apprentice. "

The storm above them rumbled violently.

But Clara suddenly smiled.

"You speak as though she has a choice."

Then—a burst of azure light exploded across the chaotic battlefield.

Far below, within the ancient mansion, Emily suddenly froze in place.

A wave of panic suddenly washed over her mind.

A moment later, her eyes widened in shock.

A layer of frost rapidly spread upward from beneath her feet, binding her legs instantly.

"What the—!"

"Helloo, little lady," a playful voice whispered in her ear.
