Chapter 32: Chapter 31: Star Mist Flower
Wen Qingye took out a knife and skillfully sliced open the Unihorn Pig’s body. He cut off its four legs and gathered some nearby branches to build a simple rack.
Wen Qingye took out a branch and some leaves, then started a fire by drilling the wood.
Before long, the fire was blazing. Wen Qingye placed the pig legs on top and began to roast them.
As the flames licked the meat, grease from the pig legs started to drip down, fueling the fire even more. After a while, Wen Qingye took some coarse salt from his clothes and sprinkled it on.
After finishing the pig legs, Wen Qingye made sure to completely extinguish the embers before leaving.
The Hundred Break Mountains connected countless peaks, and coupled with years of unchecked plant growth, the paths here were difficult to traverse. One not only had to constantly cross mountains and ridges but was sometimes even forced to take long, winding detours.
Wen Qingye continued forward slowly. He scanned his surroundings every few steps, his footfalls light and soft, making almost no sound.
HISS~ HISS~
Suddenly, some strange sounds came from up ahead. Alarmed, Wen Qingye leaped into a tree. However, the leaves blocked most of his view, allowing him to see only a faint light shimmering.
’Star Mist Flower!’ Wen Qingye had only caught a glimpse through a gap in the leaves, but he immediately recognized the herb.
The Star Mist Flower was a Sixth-Grade Herb, an essential ingredient for refining certain Sixth-Grade Pills. It was considered extremely precious.
Wen Qingye climbed down from the tree and moved forward cautiously. As he drew closer, he finally got a clear view of the scene.
Four bodies lay on the ground, their clothes torn and stained with dried blood. All had died from fatal wounds. One was missing a leg, and another’s head had been smashed to a pulp. Two monkeys were devouring that person’s brain.
’Brain-Eating Monkeys!’
Wen Qingye’s brow furrowed as he saw the monkeys. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
The Brain-Eating Monkey was a peculiar creature native to the Hundred Break Mountains. They had a natural craving for the brains of humans and other Demon Beasts, making them exceptionally savage and violent. They particularly enjoyed prying open a person’s skull and eating their brain right in front of them. Moreover, they held grudges and would repay every slight.
A Brain-Eating Monkey’s strength was typically at the Refining Essence First Layer Heaven. Most importantly, they were social creatures, so most people chose to avoid them on sight.
Seeing the Star Mist Flower, Wen Qingye pondered for a moment. He decided to deal with the Brain-Eating Monkeys and take the flower.
The Brain-Eating Monkeys’ reactions were extremely sharp. Just as Wen Qingye got within ten meters, both of them stopped eating. They turned their heads and looked toward the patch of grass where he was hiding.
Forced to reveal himself, Wen Qingye stood up. He saw that the two Brain-Eating Monkeys had something white and blood-red smeared on their claws and around their mouths, a truly bizarre sight. When they saw him, the corners of their mouths actually curled into a smile. A more timid person would have been scared to death.
Suddenly, one of the Brain-Eating Monkeys erupted into motion, lunging forward and rushing toward Wen Qingye with incredible speed.
Just as the Brain-Eating Monkey was about to reach him, Wen Qingye was hit by a foul, coppery stench, causing him to frown instinctively.
"Cyan Mountain Fist!"
The massive spirit of a mountain range appeared behind Wen Qingye, radiating a simple and heavy aura. His Fist Force carried a crushing momentum.
The Brain-Eating Monkey extended its claws, which glowed with a blood-red light, and collided with Wen Qingye’s Fist Force.
BANG! BANG!
Wen Qingye’s Fist Force erupted with a series of rapid bangs, and the aftershock sent the Brain-Eating Monkey tumbling several times.
After it finished tumbling, the Brain-Eating Monkey seemed even more excited. It stood up, scratching its ears and cheeks, and bared its teeth at Wen Qingye with a ferocious expression.
Seeing its companion sent flying by Wen Qingye’s punch, the other Brain-Eating Monkey seemed overjoyed. It clapped its hands and jumped up and down.
Suddenly, that Brain-Eating Monkey grabbed a nearby boulder. With a strain of its arms, it heaved the massive rock into the air. It was hard to imagine a monkey could lift such a huge stone.
The Brain-Eating Monkey’s eyes glinted fiercely as it stared at Wen Qingye. It let out a strange cry, and the boulder flew toward him.
The boulder moved with incredible speed. Wen Qingye’s feet slid, and his body moved like a butterfly flitting through the jungle, nimbly dodging the monkey’s projectile.
Just then, Wen Qingye was startled to see that the Brain-Eating Monkey was already dangerously close.
"Great Heaven-Tearing Monument Hand!"
Wen Qingye held nothing back. Primordial Qi surged from his body like a river as he slammed his palm forward. A massive Hand Seal materialized in the air and shot forward with a destructive, domineering aura.
The Brain-Eating Monkey ran with incredible speed, reaching Wen Qingye’s side in an instant. It furiously swung its claws. With each swipe, a streak of red Primordial Qi appeared, layering on top of one another and building in power to clash directly with Wen Qingye’s Great Heaven-Tearing Monument Hand.
BOOM!
The massive collision of Primordial Qi shook the leaves from the surrounding trees. Wen Qingye raised an arm to shield his face and retreated four or five steps.
The Brain-Eating Monkey’s body flew backward like a kite with a broken string. It crashed to the ground and skidded for five or six meters, but it quickly scrambled back to its feet. Its eyes were now blood-red as it stared intently at Wen Qingye.
The other Brain-Eating Monkey was no longer clapping gleefully. Instead, it began to slowly close in on Wen Qingye, planning for the two of them to finish him off together.
Seeing both monkeys advancing on him, Wen Qingye knew he had to strike first to gain the upper hand.
SWOOSH! SWOOSH!
With a slide of his feet, Wen Qingye instantly appeared next to the injured Brain-Eating Monkey. Seeing him take the initiative, the monkey panicked slightly, leaping onto a nearby tree.
Wen Qingye’s lunge hit nothing but air. Just then, he felt a cold draft at his back and instinctively threw a punch behind him.
RIP!
The Brain-Eating Monkey struck like lightning. A swipe of its claws unleashed a streak of blood-red Primordial Qi that tore right through Wen Qingye’s Fist Force. In an instant, a gash appeared on Wen Qingye’s arm.
The Brain-Eating Monkey in front of him seemed even more excited to see Wen Qingye injured. It let out a bizarre shriek, rapidly closed the distance, and swiped its claws directly at his head.
One had to admit, the Brain-Eating Monkey’s claws were truly formidable. They typically used their claws to tear open skulls before feeding. Even a hard skull was like tofu before them, which just went to show how powerful they were.
