Chapter 3: Ch 3: Transmigration

He didn’t know how long time had passed by. He was clueless on why was he even there.

"Just how many times do I have to witness the same things?"

Enzo muttered with a blank look in his eyes as he stared at the fragments of memories playing in front of him. All of them belonging to him from back on Earth.

He wondered internally if these were the last attempts by his neurons to do something before his real body actually shut down.

Normally, he might have even believed that. But then...

He looked at himself. His body was now a shower of highly condensed golden light, glittering like the sun in this nowhere where his memories played like a broken record.

He could still talk, hear and sense everything. But he was no longer breathing, not that he could do so even if he wanted to, and he definitely wasn’t able to smell any type of odour from his surroundings.

Now that brought him to get another question: if the memories replaying in front of him were truly the last moments before his body truly died, then why was he standing as a bystander? In all sense, he wasn’t supposed to have proper consciousness.

And yet, here he was. Completely aware of whatever was happening.

Enzo sighed, not knowing what to do. If this was his final destination after death, he would very much prefer the eternal slumber over this.

Even though he did fear the concept of true darkness all around him and never waking up, atleast he could rest without ever being disturbed.

Right at that moment, a low hum buzzed in his ears, alerting him in the process.

Looking around him, he found nothing unusual other than his memories still playing. But the buzzing sound refused to leave.

Then suddenly after a minute or two, the low tune changed into a coarse mechanical crackling as if metallic chains were grating against each other.

The sound was extremely unpleasant to the ears and Enzo found himself covering his ears to get rid of the irritation.

But unfortunately for him, the sound didn’t cease or lower at all.

’Wait, could it be the sound is generating inside me?’ He realised in horror as suddenly, a blast shook the place and Enzo’s golden body was torn into thousands of pieces.

But strangely enough, Enzo still retained his consciousness. Just that his consciousness was now split into thousands of pieces, just like his body.

At the same time, he was forced to watch thousands of memories at the same time due to his broken consciousness.

Enzo couldn’t help but admit that it was really a jarring experience to oversee so many events at a single go. Not to talk about how his brain must be working in overtime...well, his shattered brain.

The sudden mechanical voice startled him. But before he could think anything...

The voice returned back, reverberating around him and attracting his attention.

[The Goddess of Time has used her Ultimate, Tyrant of the End.]

’What the hell?’

"Can you hear me? Wake up, lad."

Enzo felt as if someone was shaking him a bit too roughly.

’Ugh, can you stop your mouth? And don’t shout in my ears! I have already had enough of it.’ He thought in annoyance as at the same time, he struggled to hold onto his consciousness.

"Fast, wake up faster. Please, please, now is not the time to faint."

Struggling heavily, Enzo opened his eyes just to come face to face with a man who looked to be in his thirties. He had silver coloured hairs and was holding a bow in his left hand.

Realising he was now awake, the man’s golden eyes relaxed as if in relief.

Letting go of his shoulders, he straightened up and said, "I need to go now, nameless. Make sure you stay here and protect both yourself and her."

He pointed towards his right as he said that. Enzo glanced at where he was pointing to and found an unconscious woman lying on the ground.

But what caught his attention more was her bulging belly, now moving gently with her calm breathing.

At the same time, several other noises finally registered in his mind and he quickly turned his head towards the source.

Enzo observed that he alongwith the silver haired man and the unconscious woman were currently at a higher terrain.

However on the lower side of the plains, a battle raged. He saw men and women wearing animal hides and leather, crude armors fending off properly armoured warriors bearing the unicorn crest on their breastplates.

They even had an unit of cavalry who were thundering their way and tearing through any barbarian that stood in their way.

Barbarian...yes, they were barbarians. And Enzo recognised them quickly.

Meanwhile, the man standing beside him watched him look around with a curiosity befitting a child.

His eyes narrowed into slits but then shook his head the next moment. He dropped his bow on the ground followed by the quiver containing a dozen arrows.

Enzo looked up. The man had now walked away and was crouching beside the woman, mumbling words not loud enough to reach his ears.

The woman’s forehead creased into furrows as if someone had just disturbed her sleep but that quickly smoothed when the man leaned forward and kissed her lightly on the cheeks.

Enzo’s eyebrows instantly lifted up. But then the initial surprise faded away as he looked away.

’Fortunately for them, I was taught about privacy in my previous world.’

The silver haired man soon passed by him, now wearing a complete battle gear that strangely made him feel different than the other barbarians even though they were of the same clan.

"Protect her while I am gone. And in case, they bypass our defenses and start climbing up here, run away with her."

Enzo looked at the woman and then at the man in confusion. Afterall how was the man even expecting him to carry the woman with his own fragile figure?

But he didn’t question that aloud. And the man descended the high grounds, immediately driving his dagger into one of the unicorn warriors and sending him tumbling back to the lower grounds.

Enzo looked at everything from his high vantage point. It was clear that the area where he was right now was the base of these barbarians and most of their defenses were set up to not let the invaders cross into these higher lands. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

Left alone, Enzo finally let out a sigh.

It would be an understatement to say that the confusion from everything that had suddenly happened was enough to make him forget how to talk or even think.

But now that he was finally free, he couldn’t help but question himself.

’How the hell did I end up in a novel?’

Yes, Enzo Riccardo had figured out he was in the same novel he had read countless times.

Afterall, the scene playing out in front of him was the starting scene of his favourite novel.
