Chapter 805: The competition ended with... Vergil being honest.
Vergil remained seated at the table for a few moments after the conversation ended, silently observing the distant lights of Tokyo reflected in the suite’s enormous windows. The weight of that call still lingered somewhere in the back of his mind, not exactly as immediate worry, but as that irritating feeling that something was slowly beginning to go awry in the world again. The Abyss rarely moved without consequences, and the mere fact that Sapphire had personally called before leaving was enough to make him more alert than he let on.
Even so, the atmosphere around him remained absurdly domestic.
Roxanne continued examining the sweets scattered across the table like someone trying to select important magical artifacts. Ada slowly dried her hair while silently organizing her thoughts. And Katharina remained completely naked beside the table, showing no discomfort whatsoever about her lack of clothing as she watched Vergil with increasing attention.
She quickly noticed the almost imperceptible change in his posture after the call.
Vergil did this frequently.
She carried problems in silence until they piled up too much.
Katharina knew that all too well.
Without saying anything initially, she simply approached him calmly while he remained seated in the chair next to the table full of Japanese food containers. Then, without any ceremony, she simply settled into his lap as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
The movement was slow, lazy, and completely familiar.
Vergil let out a small sigh through his nose when he felt her weight on his legs, but he didn’t complain. He just automatically adjusted one hand on her waist while Katharina put her arms behind his neck and pressed her body against his.
She was still warm from the heated environment of the suite.
And also from the long bath she had probably taken before he returned with the food.
Katharina rested her face close to his neck for a few seconds before speaking in a lower and less aggressive tone than she usually used.
"I missed you."
Then she slowly kissed his neck, unhurriedly, in a way that was far more intimate than provocative. The gesture carried no competitiveness or sarcasm. It was simply a demonstration of closeness after absurdly chaotic days.
Vergil closed his eyes for a brief moment as he felt her red hair lightly brush against his face.
He was tired too.
More than he admitted.
And perhaps that’s precisely why that closeness seemed so peaceful.
One of his hands slowly moved up her back as he replied in a low, tired tone:
"I need to learn to manage my time better."
Katharina let out a small, muffled laugh near his neck.
"You think so?"
"Apparently disappearing into the sky, dealing with cosmic entities, and almost causing conceptual collapses affects my schedule."
"A little." freewebnσvel.cøm
Vergil finally opened his eyes again as he observed her closely. Katharina’s face was more relaxed now, without the exaggerated irritation of the last few hours. Just tired. Comfortable. Close to him in a rarely silent way.
Then his eyes involuntarily drifted down for a few seconds.
Katharina noticed immediately.
She always noticed.
Vergil tilted his head slightly before commenting in an absurdly casual way:
"...Your breasts have grown."
The silence that followed lasted approximately two seconds.
Then Katharina blinked once.
She pulled her face away from him slightly.
And immediately looked down as if analyzing the situation for the first time.
"...Huh."
She held one of her own breasts with one hand, clearly evaluating it in a genuinely analytical way while remaining seated on his lap completely naked in the middle of the hotel suite.
"They really have grown."
The comment came out too serious for that situation.
Ada slowly lifted her eyes from the towel she was using to dry her hair.
Roxanne turned her face away from the dessert she was analyzing. The two looked at Katharina in absolute silence.
Katharina continued staring at her own chest with genuine concentration.
"I thought it was my imagination."
Vergil observed this with a dangerously neutral expression.
"It doesn’t seem like your imagination."
She lightly squeezed one of them again, as if confirming an important physical detail.
"...Strange."
Ada finally decided to join the conversation as she calmly walked to the table.
"Hormonal changes, increased demonic energy, bodily adaptation, or simple mass gain." She slowly pulled up a chair. "There are multiple possibilities."
Katharina still seemed genuinely interested in the matter.
"I liked it."
"I figured," Vergil commented calmly.
Roxanne approached the table holding a box of sweets while observing Katharina sitting on his lap with no intention of getting up.
"That’s unfair."
Roxanne slowly approached the table holding a small box of sweets in her hands, still wearing the dark lingerie set she had chosen a few minutes earlier. Unlike Katharina, who occupied the space like a permanent emotional storm, Roxanne possessed a lighter, more playful presence, though equally dangerous when she decided to vie for attention. She watched Katharina sitting on Vergil’s lap for a few seconds before narrowing her eyes theatrically.
"That’s unfair."
Katharina immediately raised an eyebrow.
"You literally spent an hour trying on lingerie in front of the mirror."
"That’s not the point."
Roxanne moved even closer until she stopped beside his chair, then casually placed one hand on Vergil’s shoulder while looking down, analyzing her own body with exaggerated seriousness.
"I think my thighs have grown too."
Vergil slowly turned his face towards her.
Ada simply calmly picked up one of the sweets from the table, clearly too interested in this absurd conversation to feign neutrality.
Roxanne then slowly raised one leg, resting her knee beside his chair without showing any shame. The dark lingerie contrasted against her pale skin as she pointed directly at her own thigh with a completely serious expression.
"Look at this."
Vergil stared for a full second. Then another one.
"...Are you asking me for an evaluation?"
"Yes."
Katharina immediately narrowed her eyes.
"Oh, no."
Roxanne completely ignored her comment and took Vergil’s hand before placing it directly on her thigh. The touch was firm, warm, and absurdly natural, as if it were just a normal continuation of the conversation.
"See?" Roxanne asked, clearly pleased with herself. "Firmer."
Vergil remained silent for a few seconds while his hand still rested on her thigh.
"...They really grew."
The immediate pride on Roxanne’s face was almost offensive.
"I knew it."
Ada rested her elbow on the table as she observed the whole situation like someone watching an extremely specific social experiment.
"Curious how you all turned body changes into a statistical competition."
"Because it is a competition," Katharina replied immediately.
Then she looked at Vergil’s hand, still resting on Roxanne’s thigh.
The silence lasted just long enough for everyone to realize that this wouldn’t end civilly.
Katharina leaned slowly forward, still sitting on his lap, put one arm around Vergil’s neck again, and then bit his ear without warning.
Not hard enough to hurt.
But definitely hard enough to show jealousy.
Vergil closed his eyes for a moment, letting out a tired sigh through his nose.
"Katharina."
"What?" she asked immediately, showing no remorse whatsoever. "She started it."
Roxanne seemed overly pleased with herself.
"You got jealous quickly."
"And you’re emotionally needy."
"Yes."
"At least she admits it," Ada commented calmly before taking a sip of the coffee she had poured herself.
Katharina rested her chin on Vergil’s shoulder while still observing Roxanne with a dangerously possessive expression. Even tired, there was still something territorial about her that simply never completely disappeared. The fact that Roxanne was wearing lingerie while Vergil touched her legs clearly didn’t help the situation.
Vergil, on the other hand, seemed absurdly accustomed to it all.
Perhaps too accustomed.
His hand finally left Roxanne’s thigh as he leaned his head back slightly in his chair and observed the three of them around the table. Ada maintained her calm and rational posture while arranging food on the plates. Roxanne still seemed proud of her own "anatomical discovery." Katharina remained seated on his lap completely naked, holding him by the neck as if any excessive distraction could result in immediate emotional warfare.
The strangest thing was that it seemed normal.
Not normal for any rational person.
But normal for them.
Roxanne finally pulled another chair closer to the table before sitting down beside him, still holding the box of sweets while slowly crossing her legs.
"So," she began, opening the wrapper of a small Japanese sweet, "which one of us won Tokyo?"
Vergil leaned back slightly in his chair as he watched the three of them. The question clearly wasn’t serious. Or maybe it was. With them, honestly, it was hard to distinguish emotional competition from genuine banter after a certain point.
"This wasn’t even a competition yet."
Katharina immediately snorted against his shoulder.
"Liar."
"You literally showed up with a legendary M3 GTR," Roxanne added.
"That was a declaration of automotive war," Ada calmly completed.
Vergil just sighed again through his nose as he observed the table littered with open wrappers, scattered sweets, and forgotten drinks. Dawn was slowly breaking beyond the suite’s windows, and exhaustion was finally beginning to visibly affect everyone there. Even so, none of them seemed interested in sleeping so early.
Ada then placed her empty cup on the table before slowly rising from her chair. Her hair was still partially damp from her shower, and the light clothes she wore seemed too comfortable for someone normally so stiff. She walked a few steps across the room, seemingly reflecting on the absurd conversation involving body growth and aesthetic competition.
Then she simply turned her body slightly towards him.
Without any ceremony.
Without any shame.
And looking over her shoulder, she commented in a perfectly serious tone:
"Apparently it wasn’t just you two."
Roxanne immediately started laughing before even fully understanding.
Katharina narrowed her eyes.
Vergil slightly arched an eyebrow as Ada rested one hand on her hip with complete academic tranquility.
"I believe my butt grew too."
The silence lasted less than two seconds.
Roxanne nearly choked with laughter.
"KATHARINA, SHE’S ENTERED THE COMPETITION."
"She’s always been in it," Katharina replied immediately, still clinging to Vergil’s neck like a dangerously comfortable territorial creature.
Ada remained perfectly serious.
Which made everything worse.
"Comparative body analysis requires scientific honesty."
"You just turned butts into academic research," Roxanne commented, trying to catch her breath.
"It’s an objective observation."
Vergil finally let out a low laugh.
Short.
But genuine.
This immediately caught the attention of the three.
Because Vergil rarely laughed like that.
Especially after calls involving the Abyss.
Katharina pulled her face away from his shoulder slightly just to observe him better.
"You’re laughing at us."
"I am."
Ada tilted her head slightly.
"And what exactly is the comical aspect of the situation?"
Vergil rested one arm on the back of his chair as he observed the three women around him. Katharina, naked, sat on his lap as if it were the most natural position possible. Roxanne, in lingerie, held Japanese sweets while trying to prove nonexistent physical advantages. Ada conducted body assessments as if she were organizing military reports.
The whole situation was absurd.
But also strangely comfortable.
He shook his head slightly before replying:
"You’re trying to seduce me in completely unnecessary ways."
Katharina immediately frowned.
"Unnecessary?"
"Yes."
Roxanne rested her chin on her hand.
"Explain."
Vergil looked slowly at each of them before continuing, still with that small trace of a tired smile on his face. freewebnovёl.ƈom
"If you want to seduce me, you’re mistaken about how it works."
Ada crossed her arms slowly.
"Continue."
He let out another small sigh through his nose before replying with an almost irritatingly simple honesty:
"I’m already seduced just by your existence."
The silence that followed was immediate.
Roxanne blinked a few times.
Katharina stood completely still for a moment.
Even Ada took a full two seconds to respond.
Because it had come across as too serious.
Too natural.
Vergil didn’t seem embarrassed after speaking. Nor dramatic. Just sincere in a tired way, like someone stating something too obvious to realize the impact it had.
Katharina was the first to react.
She slowly tightened her arms around his neck while partially hiding her face near his shoulder again.
"...Idiot."
But his voice had completely lost its usual aggressiveness.
Roxanne looked at him with a dangerously emotionally affected expression.
"That’s not fair."
"What?"
"You can’t just say things like that casually."
"I can."
"That’s emotional manipulation."
Ada remained silent for a few seconds before discreetly adjusting her still-damp hair.
"Inadequately efficient conclusion."
Vergil looked at her.
"Was that a compliment?"
"Maybe."
Roxanne finally stood up from her chair and approached again, holding the box of sweets against her chest.
"There." She pointed accusingly at him. "Now nobody can compete anymore because you’ve decided to be emotionally stable."
"That really ruined the competitive atmosphere," Katharina murmured.
Vergil almost laughed again.
Almost.
Then she simply ran one hand slowly down Katharina’s back while observing the three of them around the table. And at that particular moment, despite the Abyss stirring again somewhere far away, despite the inevitable crises waiting beyond that dawn, it seemed enough.
Just for a few hours.
But enough.
