Chapter 11: Fatigued Fighting

Charles would have winced after hearing the crunch, if not for the fact that he had already seen more gruesome things in this world.

One of the felines suddenly tore into the neck of the other.

It shook its head violently, as though trying to rip out its brother’s entire throat. All the victim could do was whimper and try to shake free.

It didn’t work.

Then, the other wolf joined the fight. It pounced on the first and started using its claws to scratch gruesome gashes into its ally’s hide.

Following this, it was hard for Charles to make out the exact details of the fight. All he knew was that it was chaotic.

He found himself leaning up against a tree with his back against it, watching as the wolves fought amongst each other.

Meanwhile, he used the time to try and replenish his energy.

Creating that law had used a great amount of mana, as the wolves’ alliance was clearly important to one another.

Charles had long since realised that the more important an act he wished to accomplish was, the more mana it would require.

This was why he had not simply created a law that living was prohibited.

He had prohibited consciousness in his fight with Algadon, but since the dragon had already been weakened and was close to death, this hadn’t taken much effort.

Once his energy was somewhat replenished, he looked back at the wolves and noticed that one of them was close to death.

Blood had stained the grass beneath them, and bits of flesh were hanging off their bodies.

If things continued the way they were going, they would kill each other, leaving only a single survivor for Charles to face.

No... That won’t do.

"Killing your siblings is not allowed!"

Charles felt another wave of fatigue wash over him. At this point, his shirtless body was drenched in sweat.

Placing two separate laws on three different Elite Grade creatures had taken a lot out of him.

When he looked at the wolves again, he saw that they were still in combat. However, their attacks were much less ferocious.

That was because they were only focusing on winning the battle, rather than killing each other.

Charles specifically chose not to prohibit killing as a whole, as that was a much greater law.

After a while, he made his way to the outskirts of the battle.

One of the wolves in particular was awfully weakened. It was trying to hobble away on legs that had been viciously mangled by its sibling.

Sorry, there’s no escape for you.

The fatigued Charles lunged after it and thrust his makeshift dragon scale dagger into its torso.

If not for the fact that his physicality had been doubled, the wolf was weakened, and the dragon scale dagger was abnormally sharp, his attack would have been useless.

Fortunately, these factors allowed him to carve right into the Elite wolf.

As the wolf cried out, Charles removed the blade and stabbed again and again.

Eventually, the wolf fell to the ground in a bloody heap.

He then looked over at the other wolves, which were both close to death.

They had both agreed not to fight each other and had run off to hide somewhere else in the forest.

Charles wanted to rest. He wished that he could just sit there and absorb the wolf he had already killed, as it would help get his energy back.

But he knew that if he left the Elite wolves to hide, they would find a way to heal themselves.

So, after letting out a deep sigh, he headed through the forest to find his enemies.

Luckily, they had already entered a sleep-like state, trying to hasten their healing process.

He used his dragon scale dagger to slay each of the creatures by stabbing them in their necks and letting the blood seep into the grass.

Once done, he dragged each of the three corpses over to the pond located at the centre of the forest.

He piled the three corpses on top of one another and lay down with his back against them. freewebnøvel.com

"I need a meal... And a bed."

Charles stayed like that for a few moments before turning his attention to the corpses and examining the work he had done.

The reason why he had killed them himself was because he knew that absorbing the essence of a creature you personally killed increased the rewards you would receive.

This was why solo adventurers existed. They didn’t have to stress about who got the final kill.

Charles sat by the poolside in a cross-legged position. Leaves from the trees above floated down and landed around him, creating a beautiful scene.

Then, he closed his eyes and focused on absorbing the three essences at the same time...
