Chapter 23: Impending Doom.

"Your weakness is a stick? Are you not the main villain of this quest? No, no... Damien, don’t jinx it, of course he’s the main villain, what more could the ruins of humanity possibly throw at a group of dormant humans".

The chief angrily swung its axe at Priesty’s head, it was starting to get fed up with Damien’s little schemes, it was a battle, and he refuses to fight it honorably.

Priesty responded with the same amount of aggression, but his power was meager compared to the chief’s, he was sent flying once more. This time, nearly falling off the roof top.

The other undead quickly rushed the chief before he could pull back his axe, Damien’s timing had been perfect from the beginning of the fight, he knew he couldn’t beat the Eidolon chief, but there’s nothing stopping him from annoying the hell out of him.

The chief growled aggressively and held down an undead, he used his claws to crush the undead’s neck before ripping it clean off.

[Your undead has fallen]

Damien’s smile turned upside down, he was running out of undead, he turned his head and glanced back at the formation, they still hadn’t moved, even while Chad was blasting them with ballista after ballista, the loyalty they have for their chief isn’t normal at all.

Living creatures are still slaves to their most basic instincts, and yet the presence of the chief seemed to have taken over theirs.

"Tsk, if only I could get close enough to make more undead".

Damien begrudgingly abandoned the thought and once more faced his impending doom.

The chief once more began to overpower the undead Eidolons, but suddenly. They all jumped back, leaving it pushing back at empty air, it quickly lost balance and began to fall over.

"Damn you, you crafty little rat".

"You talk to your mama with that mouth". Damien interrupted.

Priesty was already upon the chief once again, this time for sure. There was no way he could miss, the Eidolon chief was falling face first towards the ground, its axe was awkwardly held by its arm, its feet could no longer generate enough power for another swing, and its only free arm needed to block the undead Eidolons rushing back aggressively.

No matter how Damien saw it, the moment was perfectly seized by him.

SKRRAAAAAAAARRRGHHHH!!

The Eidolon chief’s roar shook the building to its already ancient foundation, a sonic wave actually spread outward, slamming into Damien’s face.

Then its body began to erupt, with muscle clashing with muscle and a blood shower shooting out from its furred skin, its arm held the axe handle tighter and pulled it like it was a hollow piece of steel.

The axe cleaved through his remaining undead, and crashed into the roof top.

[Your undead has fallen]

[Your undead has fallen]

[Your undead has fallen]

The axe didn’t stop, it directly tore through the ground and reached towards Priesty. But before it landed, Priesty fell apart into a cloud of black smoke, body and staff alike and shot back into Damien’s body.

The rooftop couldn’t hold them anymore, it fell apart and collapsed into a cloud of dust.

The Eidolon formation suddenly moved, hundreds of angry roars echoed across the ruins of humanity as they no longer maintained their forced formation, returning to their savage nature they stampeded across the snow.

Chad and Seris had no part of retreat, all they could do is continue reloading the siege crossbow and firing at the attacking Eidolon army.

Meanwhile, another heaven shaking roar shook the already collapsed building as a giant figure rose from the ground, the Eidolon chief has changed, it’s fur was no longer white, instead it had turned blood red, its muscles had doubled in size and its height, had reached a staggering fifteen feet tall, it was basically a titan at this point.

"Shit".

Damien cursed while pulling Yuri from under a rock. The sight of the Eidolon chief’s transformation nearly paralysed his legs, or it could be Yuri’s weight pressing down on them, Damien didn’t have time to contemplate that deeply about his unmoving legs.

The chief’s eyes snapped down at him.

"This is my dormant ability, blood rage... you can count yourself fortunate to die underneath its power".

Boom

Its massive body began to move towards Damien, crushing every rock into dust underneath its heel.

"No wait, I surrender... we should talk like civilised men, you hear me, I don’t wanna fight anymore".

Damien’s hectic scream fell on deaf ears, the Eidolon chief wouldn’t allow itself to fall for any more of Damien’s schemes, it raised its massive axe into the air and graced Damien with one last indifferent glance.

"I was wise, if you like, because I was prepared for death at any moment, but not because I had taken care of everything that was given to me to do; rather because I had done none of it and could not even hope ever to do any of it... Franz Kafka...

"I used to scoff at those words. Who in their right mind prepares for death? Death isn’t some melancholic poem a child struggles to understand, it’s a road every man is dragged down eventually. If you’re ready to die, good for you. If you’re not... even better,

Me?

I’m not ready to die.

Because I never prepared for it."

Swooooosh

The strange sound cut through the air before piercing through the arm of the Eidolon chief.

Boom

His axe fell to the ground as dust rose once more, the chief froze in place for a brief moment before crimson blood shot out from its arm.

A white long sword now protruded cleanly through it.

The pain erupted seconds later as the chief stepped back while trying to remove the blade, but its claws were too long and kept getting in the way.

The next moment the figure of a woman with long curly chestnut hair and light caramel skin jumped onto the Eidolon chief’s bold neck and held tightly to its frozen antlers.

The woman pulled back once more, forcing the chief to drag its colossal feet away from Damien and Yuri.

"Hey there beautiful".
