Kai stared down at the dirt map, then shifted his gaze back to the X.
"Now I wonder what the territory they have been thrown into actually houses. This entire world is just strange and twisted. Like a living nightmare."
"Agreed." Chloe nodded, lightly rubbing her arms as she shuddered at the memories of what they had already endured.
"But I’m still worried about one more thing," Van pointed out, lifting his eyes to scan the interior of the cave.
"Felix... he is a werewolf just like Ray, yeah?"
Kai nodded, matching his thoughtful look.
"Yeah, what about it?"
"Knowing that, and considering everything we know about werewolves, he definitely possesses a way to track Ray. He should be able to sniff him out, right?"

"My point is this. Despite the number of days we have spent stranded here, why hasn’t he tried to track Ray down?

Kai looked around at the group before chiming in.
"And none of you are taking into account the sheer amount of time this journey might take. Even with sixteen hours of daytime, we might still struggle to cover this entire zone, let alone cross into the next.
I spent six whole days exploring just half of Bone Ridge. Putting that into calculations, it might take us at least two weeks to reach the next region."
"Don’t forget that you were exploring the terrain at night," Van corrected him.
"That’s eight hours of exploration per cycle. So with double that time during the day, we should arrive in the next region in approximately a week."
Ray turned his attention back to Kai.
"You managed to cover half of this region?"
Kai nodded.
"Are there plenty of caves like this one that we can camp in?"

"And during that period, did you happen to encounter anything at least remotely different from these skeletal creatures?"
"No. Why?"
Ray looked at the ground in deep thought before replying.
"That means the controller is further away."
"Controller? What does that mean?" Chloe asked with a cocked brow.
Looking at the squad, Ray took in a deep breath then replied.
"These skeletal creatures here. They are oddly different from the normal beasts we are used to.
But at the same time, they follow a set pattern as if it was encoded deep within them. A pattern to rise as soon as the sun has set and fall as soon as the sun rose up."
"Okay? Where are you driving at?" Trisha asked.
"Doesn’t that remind you all of something? I mean the way the creatures behave."
Kai thought for a few seconds then his amethyst eyes lit up.

Van’s eyes lit up instantly.
"To not allow anything or anyone to leave or enter at will. Just like the Kraken."
Lifting his hand like he had just dropped a mic, Ray nodded.
"Exactly. So our plans of escape could be thwarted now."
