Chapter 292: Hunt for Food? (2)

Chapter 290

It didn’t take too long for the trio to descend from the hill they had taken shelter on.

Within moments, they dashed away across the terrain.

Trisha was seen heading in an entirely different direction while Ray and Chloe stuck together.

"For a moment, I was worried when you spoke about hunting. I thought you wanted to do exactly what Trisha said. Ha." Chloe let out a short laugh, but Ray didn’t respond.

His mind was entirely fixed on the task at hand.

This was no hunt to fight monsters, but a mission to retrieve beast meat they could actually consume. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Yeah, they had already crossed that boundary, and now, it was too late to turn back.

Trisha’s task was simple.

She was to go gather some dry wood that would be used for roasting the food.

Meanwhile, with Ray’s ’Thermal Vision’ active, he could easily find a way to circumvent all nearby threats.

Since the local predators were avoiding the dark sea for some reason, he was going to utilize that same boundary to their advantage.

Luckily, they were all awake in the early hours of the day, hence the Advanced-rank beasts weren’t fully active or alert yet.

Ray wasn’t particularly scared of them, but right now, he absolutely needed to avoid any unnecessary scuffle.

All they needed to do was secure a meal.

Walking around cautiously while hiding behind mounds here and there, Ray and Chloe made their way to the closest spot where he had sighted the fresh carcass.

The trip to that area was completely quiet because the Tribrid refused to engage in any casual conversation whatsoever.

Growl—!

Chloe’s stomach rumbled again for the fifth time since the beginning of their journey.

"Shush. Stop making noise, damn it. We will soon get food," Chloe chided her midsection quietly, trying to suppress the sound.

Ray just shook his head and continued moving forward.

So far, they had successfully bypassed every single creature they found on their path.

Still, one nagging thought bothered the boy.

’If the others aren’t in Hill Valley, and they are scattered on entirely different parts of this world, we will have to leave Hill Valley in order to regroup, right?’

Halting for a moment, he listened calmly to the surrounding vibrations and waited for a patrolling beast to pass before continuing on his way along with Chloe.

’And this dark sea is completely surrounding the Hill Valley. So in order to get out, we will definitely need to cross that water. If even the King-rank beasts are afraid of the ocean for a reason, how are we supposed to traverse it? Can we even escape this place at all?’

The heavy thought persisted in his mind as they finally reached their destination.

Looking around, no hostile creature could be seen... yet.

Looking down, he scanned the fallen beast for several seconds.

It looked like a strange crossbreed between a rabbit and a frog, but much bigger and significantly meatier.

Unconsciously, a bit of saliva began to pool at the corner of his lips as he stared at the carcass.

"Ohoy~! We need to leave already," Chloe quietly nudged the boy, snapping him out of his sudden trance.

’What was that just now? How can I find a raw carcass enticing to eat? Yuck.’

Grabbing the heavy beast, it was time to head back.

So far, they were incredibly lucky to not encounter any obstacles that would delay their breakfast.

.....

Within minutes, they safely reached the high hill they had stayed on the night before.

There, they could see Trisha waiting for them.

It looked like she had already diligently set up a bonfire structure, though it was currently without any fire.

"So... uh... how do we light it?" Chloe asked as she looked between the two.

Ray dropped the beast on the ground and stared at the neatly arranged pile of wood, twigs, and branches.

[Sparkshot Activated]

Lightning crackled sharply around his hand, and then he thrust his palm forward, shooting a bright spark of electricity toward the arranged wood.

There was a low bang, and instantly, the tinder caught on fire, burning with a furious, warm force.

Trisha wasted absolutely no time.

She unsheathed her sharp sword and began dressing the meat with the active help of Chloe.

Ray walked away from the flames, choosing to sit at the steep edge of the hill to observe the vast world stretching out before him.

Minutes passed in the complete silence of his own head as he kept his watch, looking out into the dangerous valley.

Half an hour later, a sweet aroma of roasted meat wafted into his nose.

He unconsciously sniffed the air like a dog and then turned around to see Trisha offering Chloe a piece of the food.

Rising from where he sat, he sauntered over and then dropped down in front of the fire. freёweɓnovel.com

Trisha passed him a portion, which he gratefully accepted, and without hesitation, the trio ravaged the pieces of meat like ravenous wolves.

Ray was understandable... he was part werewolf.

But Trisha and Chloe looked more like beasts themselves at the moment with how furiously they were tearing through the meal like it owed them rent or something.

Even the pieces of bone weren’t spared; they were meticulously chewed and broken by their teeth while the marrow inside was sucked completely clean.

Ray stared at the girls with a shocked expression as he calmly tore into his own share.

Due to his unique physiology, he wasn’t actually that starved.

Minutes later, they were done, with Chloe licking her fingers and letting out a satisfied burp.

They had safely set aside some remaining food for dinner later.

"Ah... who knew that beast meat would taste so good," Chloe let out a satisfied breath of relief as she continued patting her stomach.

"So, what now?" Trisha asked as she wiped her fingers across her jacket.

Ray thought for a few seconds then gave his reply.

"I have given your proposition some thought, and I realize that it is actually doable."

Chloe turned to stare at him with a horrified look. "You too?!"

Shaking his head, he rose up.

"I’m not as reckless as you think. All I ask for is this night to come up with a plan that has the highest survival rate for us. I’m not about to lose my life in this world. So, I need some time to think of something."

He paused, then looked directly at Trisha.

"We will be doing this one at a time. This is a King-rank beast, not Advanced-rank beasts. Okay?"

The girl just shrugged and stood up, putting the crackling fire out before walking away.

"Whatever."
