Chapter 289: A Stupid Friend?

Chapter 287

"Hang on... this beast you speak of, does it have an injury... a crack on its armored body and its horn snapped in two?"

"....?!"

Trisha finally showed an ounce of emotion as she looked up sharply in the direction where Ray’s voice came from.

But she didn’t say anything out loud.

Instead, Chloe’s loud voice cut through the air, her eyes widening in sheer shock at what the Tribrid had just detailed.

"Yes! How do you know that? Wait... did you actually encounter it?!"

Ray sighed softly as he rubbed his temples, recalling the intense battle.

"Yes, actually. When I fell from the gate, I crashed directly into that dark sea. When I finally managed to swim to the shore, I was immediately ambushed by that exact beast."

"So how were you able to run away from it?!" Chloe asked frantically, her mind racing.

"...!?"

Ray blinked for a few seconds in genuine confusion at the girl’s words.

"Run away? Why would I? I actually killed the beast and managed to climb up a hill in time before more could swarm my position."

Now it was Chloe’s turn to blink for several seconds in utter astonishment at what the Tribrid had just calmly stated.

A flicker of a deep, unreadable emotion flashed across Trisha’s eyes as she continued to stare intently at the boy through the darkness.

"You really managed to kill it? Ho... actually, why am I even shocked?" Chloe mused, trying to rationalize it.

"First off, you are incredibly strong, and secondly, the beast was already severely injured from our encounter."

"Yeah. Exactly that," Ray replied as he lifted his gaze to the dark sky for a brief second.

’Well, one little mystery solved. Now I know how that beast was already injured before fighting me.

But Chloe says it was already partly injured when they found it too, so it means it might have had a previous clash with another King-rank beast, not something necessarily stronger.’

Heaving a long breath of relief, he smiled slightly.

’That’s good. Such a massive relief to know that there’s likely nothing stronger than King-rank be—’

"I’m hungry," Trisha’s icy voice suddenly cut right through Ray’s internal thoughts.

"Huh?"

After muttering those words, the girl quickly turned her head to the side, an obvious, embarrassed tinge flushing across her cheeks.

She had actually intended to whisper those words to herself, but had completely forgotten just how incredibly sharp the Tribrid’s hearing truly was.

Well, what could Ray even do about that?

There was absolutely no food in his hands at the moment.

His saved steak was already completely finished, and he had nothing else stored away in his inventory.

It wasn’t like he could just casually go down into the valley right now to hunt for food for them; where would they even find something edible down there?

She didn’t seriously expect them to eat the monsters, right? Right?

Even if they wanted to—let’s say they actually wanted to cross that line—they physically couldn’t eat the Earth Shakers anyway, since those beasts looked like they were entirely made from dense earth and rock.

So what could they possibly do?

Shaking the embarrassed expression from her face, Trisha rose up and began sauntering slowly over to where she figured the steep edge of the hill would be.

"Careful. Five more steps and you will be plummeting straight down," Ray warned calmly.

Hearing Ray’s timely intervention, the girl immediately halted her stride and looked downward into the dark abyss.

She tried to picture the monstrous beasts prowling all around the base below like heavy security guards of a private estate.

"How do we escape this place?" Chloe asked softly as she curled her knees inward, hugging them tightly to her chest while staring ahead into the gloom.

"We don’t even know where the others are located at the moment. I highly doubt they would be trapped in this specific valley of hills."

"They aren’t. We are the only ones in this Hill Valley," Ray replied as he stared straight at her.

Lifting a brow, Chloe turned her head in his direction. "How do you know?"

"..."

Ray thought for a few seconds before replying.

"The same way I found you girls. That’s how I know. Wait, where had you both been going?" freēwēbnovel.com

Chloe thought for a second before giving a reply.

"The day we landed, after fending the King-rank beast off, we felt like more could ambush us, so we looked for a hill and climbed atop it.

While resting and catching our breath twenty minutes later, we saw a bright light coming from the south.

It almost looked like the beams Van fires out from his cannon. So, we decided we would investigate, hence we had been slowly approaching that said location carefully when you found us."

’Oh?! I guess my final attack on the beast is what they saw and thought it was Van?’

"We need to grow stronger, fast," Trisha finally uttered after three minutes of looking at the ground.

"Huh? You have been saying the same thing since we landed here," Chloe hissed.

"Well, I kind of get your point. This world gives me the creeps," Ray voiced out with a little bit of a shudder.

"Which is why I had even planned that I would slowly be battling the Advanced-rank beasts... a form of grinding, and we can be gathering the bea—"

"Wasn’t talking about those," Trisha cut him off coldly.

Ray blinked for a second or two. "Er? Then? How do you suppose we get stronger?"

"...."

Chloe looked between the two for a few minutes, wondering what they were trying to do.

To her, even an Advanced-rank beast was a mountainous task... well, not that mountainous, but still hard to deal with.

And Ray was discussing such a threat casually?

Talking about some grinding...

Several seconds of silence later, Ray’s eyes widened in horror, and then he snapped his gaze in Trish’s direction.

"No, no, no."

Trisha sighed and turned to look in his direction.

Though she couldn’t see him, she could already picture his horrified expression.

"No. Don’t tell me it’s what I’m thinking."

Tilting her head to the side, she shrugged before crossing her arms.

"Are you mad?! You want to really do that? Who the fuck in their sane mind would even think of attempting that?!"

"What’s going on? I’m lost," Chloe butted in as she looked between the duo.

Turning to stare at her, Ray sucked in a deep breath before barking aloud.

"Your stupid friend is planning on hunting those King-rank beasts to grow stronger."

Now it was Chloe’s turn to turn pale as she stiffened with a widened expression in her eyes.

"WHAT THE FUCK?!"
