Chapter 152: Chapter 91: Fourth-Layer Heavenly Mandate, Tangula Abyss
"We’ve got new intel."
Just then, Dongfang Yao, who was standing to the side, suddenly called out. Chen Yu and An Ran both looked over at him.
Dongfang Yao tapped his watch, and a virtual screen materialized. The two of them fixed their gazes on it, where a new file had appeared before their eyes.
It even included video footage.
The sky was a hazy gray, shrouded in a dense, chilling fog from which strange roars echoed.
"GRAA—"
Suddenly, with another odd cry, a black claw shot out from the fog.
"SQUELCH—!"
Blood sprayed as a pained scream rang out.
"On guard!!"
Another voice shouted. Immediately after, several more black claws shot out from the fog, appearing and disappearing without a trace.
In the video, several people were already injured.
"GAK GAK!!!"
A series of squawks, like those of a duck, echoed as the figures of several monsters appeared.
They stood three meters tall, were pitch-black all over, and wore a layer of armor. They had slender tails and, most notably, a pair of red horns.
They looked exactly like demons from a movie, only much taller!
They burst from the fog and rapidly attacked the group.
The camera shook as the group tried to retreat, but the monsters pursued them relentlessly.
Their speed was incredible!
In a near-instant, four or five people fell, and then the video cut out abruptly.
The three of them wore grave expressions.
Judging by the footage, those people were no ordinary Martial Artists, yet the monsters that appeared were even more terrifying, killing them with almost crushing force.
And it seemed these monsters were different from the Alien Race; they were likely a type of strange beast.
However, even Chen Yu didn’t know what kind of strange beast this was.
There were thousands upon thousands of strange beasts in the world, with countless varieties. Humanity’s databases on them couldn’t possibly cover every single one.
"This is the latest intel from the Abyssal Administration Bureau," Dongfang Yao said.
Chen Yu’s brow furrowed. He looked at the information on the virtual screen, pondered for a moment, and said, "It seems we’ll have to find personnel from the Abyssal Administration Bureau once we get there."
Dongfang Yao nodded, looking at Chen Yu. "I’ll arrange it."
Chen Yu nodded.
The Dongfang family’s connections were unimaginably vast. With their arrangements, they could save themselves a lot of unnecessary trouble.
"What are these strange beasts? I’ve never seen them before," An Ran asked curiously, watching the monsters in the video footage.
"I don’t recognize them. They must be a new type of monstrous beast," Dongfang Yao replied.
"Could they be the Alien Race we’re looking for?" An Ran asked, blinking.
"Unlikely. They look more like a type of strange beast."
An Ran said, "Don’t some of the Alien Races have bestial features too?"
"..."
"We’ll know when we get there," Chen Yu said.
An Ran nodded and didn’t say anything more.
—
Night fell.
Qu City, Plateau Region, East Asia.
Winter had already set in, and the nights in Qu City were even colder.
The air itself felt like it was about to freeze.
Qu City was a small safe-zone city on the plateau.
It was also the urban safe zone closest to the mountain range known as the "Roof of the World."
Throughout the plateau’s mountain range, peaks five to six thousand meters high were a common sight. They were like great dragons lying dormant upon the earth, stretching out endlessly beyond the horizon.
In the dark of night, they looked even more like a boundless, slumbering dragon, with only the rough outlines of their ridges visible.
A black helicopter landed steadily at the military airport in Qu City.
The cabin door opened, and Chen Yu’s group of three stepped out.
"Yikes, it really is chilly," An Ran said, her breath forming a white puff as she rubbed her hands together.
"You’ll get used to it," Dongfang Yao said with a smile.
Chen Yu, however, didn’t mind. The cold had no effect on him; in fact, it could even be an advantage.
The strength of a Skill could sometimes change depending on the natural environment.
Of course, the effect wasn’t that significant.
Even in the middle of a scorching desert, he could create a patch of ice and snow.
However, he could only alter things locally. His current abilities weren’t yet enough to change the environment of an entire world.
If he could change the natural environment of a whole world, he’d probably be no different from a True God.
Chen Yu’s gaze swept the area. Not far away, a stretch limousine was parked. Its doors opened, and two figures got out.
A large man in a black suit and a middle-aged man with gold-rimmed glasses walked toward them.
Chen Yu and the others went to meet them.
"Greetings, you three. I’m Director Jiang of the Abyssal Administration Bureau’s Third Division, Jiang Tao. I’ve been expecting you."
The man with the gold-rimmed glasses spoke with a smile.
The three of them nodded and returned the greeting.
"It’s getting late. Please, get in the car," Director Jiang said with a beaming smile.
Chen Yu’s group walked toward the stretch limousine. As soon as they got in, it was much warmer.
Not that the change in air temperature had much of an effect on them.
Of course, a more comfortable environment was still more pleasant.
"Drive!"
At Director Jiang’s command, the driver immediately drove out of the airport.
"The three of you, our orders from above are to coordinate with you on this operation. Tomorrow, a team will be assigned to accompany you into the Tangula Abyss," Director Jiang said, looking at Chen Yu and the others.
Chen Yu and his companions nodded. This wasn’t unexpected.
They already knew this ahead of time.
Having personnel from the Abyssal Administration Bureau accompany them was simply for added security.
However, the main exploration task would still fall to them. The personnel from the Abyssal Administration Bureau were just there for support.
This was perfectly normal.
"Director Jiang, what are those monsters that appeared in the Tangula Abyssal Realm? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like them," Chen Yu asked.
