Chapter 72: Meeting with Aisha
Grunt.
Denzel grunted in disappointment as he finally arrived at the village chief’s residence, the large compound as heavily guarded as ever.
Shoving his hands into his pockets, he slowed his pace slightly. Despite having already reached his destination, his mind stubbornly lingered on the mysterious girl he had encountered earlier.
’I keep wondering who she is. I’m definitely sure she’s from my memories, but I can’t even get a hold of who exactly she is.’
He clenched his jaw.
’Ah, fuck all this.’
A frustrated sigh escaped him.
’What’s wrong with this fucking guy’s brain? Normally, wasn’t he capable of remembering things? His brain is so messed up that I can’t even figure out who that trailing bitch was.’
His eyes narrowed.
’Hmm, I wonder if she was even there just for me.’
For a brief moment, he considered dwelling on it further before shaking his head.
’Ah, forget all of that. I already have a plan in motion, so let’s get this thing done.’
With that thought, Denzel stepped forward toward the entrance.
The moment he approached, the guards stationed outside immediately moved to intercept him, stretching out their hands to stop him from proceeding any further.
"And who are you?" one of the guards asked.
Before Denzel could answer, another guard squinted at him.
"Wait, isn’t that the deputy helper boy the chief’s wife hired?" he muttered to his companion.
The two exchanged a few hushed words before turning their attention back to Denzel.
Maintaining an innocent expression, Denzel lowered his head politely.
"Good day. I was requested to come by the chief’s wife."
The guards exchanged another glance.
"We didn’t get any such notice," one of them replied.
Denzel offered an apologetic smile.
"Oh, I suppose maybe she forgot to tell you."
The second guard nodded.
"Oh, I’ll go inform her."
’No, this was supposed to be a surprise.’
Denzel’s expression remained calm, but inwardly, he clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"Is that really necessary?" Denzel asked, raising an eyebrow. "I don’t think the chief’s wife needs her orders to be verified."
The guard gave a helpless shrug.
"I’m just doing my job, man. None of us wants another earful from that royal brat."
The second the words left his mouth, the other guard smacked him on the shoulder.
"Hey. You shouldn’t be saying things like that out loud. People hear things. People remember."
The first guard winced.
"Ah, sorry." freёweɓnovel.com
’Royal brat.’
Denzel’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly.
’That could be no one other than Patrick.’
His expression remained polite, but his mind was already working.
’I suppose it’s believable that he’s managed to drill his authority into everyone around here. Even the guards seem wary of him.’
For a moment, he considered it.
’But doing all of this for his mother’s sake? That’s surprisingly patriotic.’
A faint smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.
’Almost funny, actually.’
His gaze drifted toward the compound beyond the gates.
’I wonder why he’s putting in so much effort just to make sure nobody gets close to her.’
The thought lingered for a brief second before he dismissed it.
’Oh well.’
His shoulders rose in a tiny shrug.
’Like I said before, until I get strong enough to beat him, I’m just going to have to settle for fucking his fat-ass mother.’
One of the guards disappeared into the residence, leaving Denzel alone with the other.
For a few moments, an awkward silence lingered between them, almost a bit disturbing for Denzel.
’Dang...this guy really has nothing to say... well since I’m stuck with him for a moment, I might as well try to figure out what exactly is going on here...’
Denzel was the first to break it.
"So, what’s with all the sudden security?" he asked casually.
"Was there some sort of attempt on the chief’s wife’s life, or perhaps the chief?"
The guard stiffened almost immediately before shaking his head.
"I’d rather not talk about that. For my own good."
Denzel clicked his tongue.
"Come on. There’s only two of us here... it’s just a little gossip, what harm could it do?"
The guard hesitated before letting out a dry chuckle.
"Yeah, well, you’ve seen what kind of a bitch that guy is...I believe he brings plenty of harm."
Denzel tilted his head.
"Who?"
The guard glanced around before lowering his voice.
"Her son. Patrick. I don’t want to cross him, and if I were you, I’d do the same."
"Oh."
Denzel slowly nodded.
"That actually makes more sense."
His expression remained thoughtful as he rubbed his chin.
’Well, in truth, I don’t really have to wonder.’
His gaze drifted toward the residence.
’I’ve never even seen the chief around here.’
The guard’s eyes narrowed.
"And why exactly does any of that concern you, Denzel?"
The question came sharp enough to make Denzel immediately raise both hands in surrender.
"My bad, my bad," he said with a laugh. "I was just curious."
The guard continued staring at him, clearly unconvinced.
The tension lingered for another second before footsteps approached from inside.
The other guard returned.
"She’s ready to see you now."
Denzel turned toward him and flashed the suspicious guard a small smirk before stepping past them.
Without another word, he entered the village chief’s residence.
The heavy door shut behind him.
The moment he stepped inside, his eyes swept across the room.
Several attendants and guards were already making their way out. One after another, they filed toward the exit without a word, their expressions carefully neutral. Meanwhile, she remained exactly where she was, standing quietly to the side as though she had been waiting for him all along.
The last attendant stepped through the doorway.
The door closed.
Silence settled over the room.
Denzel glanced around at the now-empty hall.
’She’s already cleared the room for me.’
A low chuckle escaped his lips.
’Alright then.’
His eyes settled on the woman waiting for him.
’Let’s get this started.’
Keeping his movements calm and unhurried, Denzel stepped forward toward the meal that awaited him
