Chapter 63: Misunderstanding
Armani sat behind her desk with a freshly brewed cup of tea in front of her.
Opposite her sat Zac and the white-haired girl. Neither of them looked particularly happy to be there.
Armani took a slow sip from her tea and set the cup down on the table.
"In the entire history of New Dawn Academy," she began calmly, "from the very first batch until today, never once has a recruit caused this much chaos on their first day."
Neither Zac nor the girl said anything.
"The only reason the two of you are still sitting in this office is because of your potential. If this had been anyone else, I would’ve already thrown them out of the academy."
"Now, give me one good reason not to do that."
The white-haired girl immediately pointed at Zac. "Because this sick bastard of a pervert entered my room while I was in the bathroom and peeped on me."
"That’s not true," Zac shot back. "I had the key card to that room. She was the one who shouldn’t have been there."
The girl’s eyes widened. "Are you saying this is somehow my fault?"
"Yes. You are the one with a weird kink who wants to be seen by handsome men like me."
"Handsome? You? Oh, please, have you ever seen your face in the mirror? You look like a painting drawn with penguin shit and seals’ piss."
"And you look even worse than that, you icy bitch."
Hearing him call her a bitch, she looked ready to explode.
"Who are you calling a bitch? You are the one who is a bitch."
"Come on, do you even know what a bitch is? You don’t call a man a bitch."
"Then you are a boy bitch."
"You’re insane!"
"And you are a creep + pervert + boy bitch!
"Oh, is that how we’re doing this?"
Zac immediately stood up, releasing his aura with lightning leaking from his body.
The girl also stood up, releasing her own aura with chillness and ice spreading from her body.
"You want another round?" Zac asked with lightning in his hand.
"Do you think I’m afraid of you? Come, let me freeze your sorry ass to death."
[Personally, I’m rooting for mutual destruction.]
Watch the back and forth of the two of them. Armani closed her eyes with irritation.
"Sit down." Neither heard her, or perhaps neither wanted to.
Armani opened one eye and sighed, looking at them. A terrifying pressure suddenly exploded from her body.
"SIT."
BOOM.
Her voice crashed through the room like a tidal wave.
The pressure of her aura caused cracks to spread across several walls, while the windows rattled violently. Every piece of furniture in the room trembled under the weight of her overwhelming presence.
Zac and Sabrina immediately sat down perfectly straight and silent.
The pressure vanished instantly, and the room remained deathly quiet.
Armani took another sip of tea. "Much better."
"You are not a married couple getting a divorce, and I am not your attorney. So instead of screaming at each other, tell me what happened."
She pointed at the girl. "You first, Ice Girl."
The girl blinked. "I’m not Ice Girl. My name is Sabrina Snow."
"I don’t care what your name is. From now on, you’re Ice Girl. Live with it."
Sabrina stared at Armani and sighed.
"...Fine."
"Excellent. Now start."
Sabrina took a deep breath. "I arrived in the academy three days ago and was assigned to Room Nine. I’ve been staying there for the past three days."
"Everything was normal, but suddenly today, while I was in the bathroom, this idiot suddenly appeared. " Sabrina pointed at Zac accusingly.
For a brief moment, she remembered seeing him naked and him seeing her in the same state. A faint blush appeared on her face. She immediately looked away.
"That’s enough detail."
Armani turned toward Zac and gave him a suspicious look. "Your turn."
"Why are you looking at me like I’m the guilty one when I’m the victim here?"
"I’ll be the one to decide who’s the victim and who’s guilty. Until then, both of you are suspects." She folded her arms. "Now, let’s stop talking like we’re in a police drama and hear your side of the story."
Zac sighed. "I arrived at the academy today and was assigned to Room 9. After all the traveling, I wanted to take a shower and freshen up."
"But when I opened the bathroom door... well, you already know what happened after that."
Armani thought for a moment before turning to Zac. "She said she was taking a shower. Are you sure you didn’t hear anything beforehand?"
"No," Sabrina cut in immediately. "I was already done bathing. I was just drying myself with a towel."
Armani nodded and looked back at Zac. "What happened next?"
"Well, I closed the door immediately and got dressed. A few seconds later, she came charging at me and started attacking me like a maniac."
"That’s because you’re a pervert."
"I didn’t even know you were there."
"That’s not the point."
"That’s literally the point."
"Enough! Don’t start again."
Sabrina immediately fell silent. She folded her arms, looked away, and refused to meet anyone’s eyes.
Armani rubbed her temples. "I assume you defended yourself."
"Of course. I wasn’t going to sit there and get beaten up."
Armani slowly nodded. "Which eventually led to the destruction of an entire floor."
Both Zac and Sabrina looked away without saying anything.
Armani closed her eyes. "So." After a long pause. "You two accidentally ended up in the same room, immediately tried to kill each other, and somehow managed to destroy an entire floor in the process."
As she spoke, Armani picked up her teacup and took a sip.
"Why the hell am I the one dealing with this? she thought. What do they take me for, a counselor? Isn’t this exactly what the disciplinary committee is for?
That old man keeps dumping his work on me. Next time I see him, I’m kicking his ass.
With a sigh, she set the empty teacup back on the table.
Armani rubbed her forehead and suddenly extended her hand.
"Give me your badges."
Zac and Sabrina exchanged confused looks before handing over their room badges.
Armani examined both of them. A second later, a very tired smile appeared on her face.
"You two are idiots."
Both Zac and Sabrina blinked in confusion.
Armani pointed at them. "The fact that neither of you knows why I called you idiots is exactly why I’m calling you idiots."
"That’s not a great explanation," Zac muttered. freewebnøvel.com
"Shut it!" Armani snapped.
"Yes, ma’am."
She then placed both badges on the table. "The academy is partially responsible for this mess." She pointed at the badges and asked. "What number do you see?"
"Nine," Zac and Sabrina answered at the same time.
Armani nodded. Then she picked up one of the badges and turned it upside down. "And now?"
Both of them stared at it. "...Six."
The room fell silent. A painful look of realization slowly spread across Zac’s face.
"Now do you understand?"
Armani pointed at him. "You carried this badge all the way from the registration office to the dormitory. You must have looked at it dozens of times."
"Yet not once did you stop and think that maybe it could also be a six. You simply decided it was nine and continued moving forward until the situation exploded in your face."
"...When you put it that way, it sounds bad."
"It’s not just bad. It’s careless." Armani’s face turned cold. "Mistakes like this may seem small right now, but on a battlefield, a single wrong assumption can cost lives."
Her gaze swept across both of them.
"When you’re fighting for your life, even the smallest mistake can change the entire course of a battle."
Zac lowered his head. "Sorry."
Armani nodded before turning toward Sabrina. "And you’re not innocent either."
Sabrina immediately frowned. "How am I at fault?"
"Did you lock your room door?"
("...")
Sabrina looked away. "...No."
Armani leaned back in her chair. "This idiot must have used his badge on the door sensor and opened the door. Since there was no problem getting it open, he naturally assumed it was his room."
Then she shifted her finger toward Sabrina. "And it was your mistake because you forgot to lock the door. That’s how he was able to walk right in."
Sabrina opened her mouth and then closed it.
"This entire incident was a misunderstanding."
She tapped the desk. "A misunderstanding caused by academy negligence and two recruits who apparently share a single brain cell."
[I would say zero brain cells.]
"If either of you had spent a few seconds talking like civilized people, none of this would’ve happened."
Armani’s expression hardened.
"Instead, you chose violence and destroyed the academy’s properties and endangered everyone nearby."
Armani’s expression remained stern.
"You were fortunate that no one else was on that floor at the time. If even a single person had been injured, both of you would already be on your way back home."
Neither Zac nor Sabrina doubted her words. After all, the woman sitting before them was none other than the Infamous Wild.
"Fortunately, no one was hurt. The problem is that the entire floor is now uninhabitable."
She then turned to Sabrina. "I’ve already arranged a place for you to stay tonight. A teacher is waiting outside to take you there. You may leave."
"Thank you, ma’am."
Sabrina rose from her seat. and left the room while glaring at Zac.
The room fell silent once again, leaving only Zac and Armani behind.
She slowly turned toward him. "And you. I never took you for a pervert."
"I’m not a pervert!" Zac protested.
"Perhaps." Armani shrugged. "But that doesn’t change the fact that you saw her naked."
"As I said before, it was an accident."
"Who knows? Maybe you planned the whole thing to look like an accident."
"Hey! Don’t make me sound like some kind of villain."
Armani chuckled.
"I’m sorry, okay? It won’t happen again."
"I don’t want an apology," she said. "Just try to do better."
"I will."
"Good." She leaned back in her chair. "You’ll be staying at my residence tonight."
"What?!" Zac shot to his feet while shouting.
Armani raised an eyebrow, and the atmosphere in the room instantly turned dangerous. "And exactly how am I supposed to interpret that reaction?"
Zac sat back down so quickly that his chair nearly tipped over. "Sorry. I just don’t think that’s a good idea."
"And why is that?"
"Because you’re the vice-principal and I’m a recruit. Doesn’t that seem a little strange? And what if people find out? They’ll probably think you’re showing favoritism."
Armani stared at him for a moment, then a dangerous smile appeared on her face.
"I know what’s best for this academy far better than you do. And who exactly has the balls to question my decisions?"
("...")
"That’s what I thought." She waved a hand dismissively. "Now go outside and wait. Once I’m finished here, I’ll come get you."
"Yes, ma’am."
"Ma’am?" The smile on her face widened even further.
"Oh," Zac immediately corrected himself. "Sorry. Yes, Sister."
"Much better."
[Isn’t it a little strange to call a woman in her forties ’Sister’ when you haven’t even reached your twenties yet?]
"It is, but what am I supposed to do? She’s looking at me like she’ll eat me alive if I don’t."
[And you wouldn’t enjoy that?]
"NO!"
