Chapter 7: Metting Rieka

A beast-folk , a wolf-kin.

Breaking out of his excitement, Nova turned his attention back to the mission board. Still, his thoughts lingered. So this world really has beast-folk... then there must be other races as well.

There were still many things he didn’t know about this world. I’ll definitely visit the library after the dungeon. But one thing he couldn’t ignore the way people were looking at her.

The humans around him in the hall were casting cold and lustful gazes toward the wolf-fkin. Yet she didn’t seem affected by it at all, as if she was already used to such treatment or simply didn’t care.

Nova pushed those thoughts aside and focused on the mission board.

There were different sections arranged neatly, each categorized by mission type and class. Escort missions, cleaning missions, bandit extermination each had its own section, further divided by rank from E to A .

Surprisingly there were no S-rank missions available. Even though he understood what Rose had advised, Nova couldn’t ignore his advantage. He possessed a special innate skill ’Infinite Adaptation core.’

So he asked the system, will it be alright if he choose a C-rank mission?

[Host’s reasoning is correct. Your class gives you an advantage. Although there will be risk, you will level up faster.]

Nova’s eyes sharpened slightly. Confidence settled within him , Without hesitation he moved toward the dungeon mission section.

As Nova read through the dungeon missions, he could clearly see the disparity between each rank. The gap in difficulty was significant, especially between the lower ranks and those of B and A, which were on an entirely different level.

He understood that most of these missions were meant to be completed in parties. Even low-ranked dungeons could become deadly if one was careless.

His gaze settled on the C-rank mission.

Dangerous but doable.

He didn’t know the exact strength of the beasts yet, but he trusted his instincts. As he reached out to take the mission, another hand moved at the same time.

A soft yet firm hand. Nova turned slightly and saw her. The same wolf-kin woman , she was also reaching for the same mission.

Their hands paused for a moment before both of them pulled back. "Are you planning to take this mission as well?" Nova asked.

She nodded. Nova thought for a second before speaking again. "How about we form a party of two for this mission? It’s a group mission anyway."

The wolf-kin woman remained silent for a few moments, as if considering his offer carefully.

Then she gave a short reply.

"Alright."

Nova grabbed the mission from the board.

Ding!

A system quest had been triggered, converting the guild mission into something far more valuable. Nova’s lips curved slightly.

’Well... aren’t I lucky? Double benefits.’

"Are you ready to leave?"

The wolfkin’s voice broke his thoughts. She looked at him with a questioning expression, slightly puzzled by the faint smile on his face.

"Oh sorry, I spaced out," Nova replied, quickly composing himself. He extended his hand. "I’m Nova , Nice to meet you."

The wolfkin glanced at his hand for a moment before reaching out and shaking it.

"Rieka."

Her expression remained calm and neutral.

Nova felt relieved. She seemed more cooperative now compared to earlier. Together, they left the guild and began heading toward the dungeon.

After walking for a short while, Nova spoke again, his tone slightly awkward. "So... Rieka, do you know where the dungeon is? I’m new to this city."

Rieka glanced at him briefly before replying,

"I know. Just follow me."

They continued walking toward the southern outskirts of the city, where the forest stretched far into the distance. After about twenty minutes of walking in silence, Nova spoke again.

"Rieka... if you don’t mind me asking, what are you doing in a human city? I don’t see many breast-folks around."

"There are breast-folks living here," she replied calmly, her gaze fixed ahead. "But very few."

"Our kind doesn’t belong to this continent. From what I’ve heard, we have our own. I don’t know much about it."

She paused briefly before continuing.

"I was born here... in a hidden tribe. It was later destroyed by humans. Only a few of us survived. After that, Duke Theodore Frost took the remaining demi-humans under his protection."

Her voice remained steady but the meaning behind her words was heavy. "Even so... people still look at us with cold eyes."

Nova listened silently. He didn’t know what to say. He understood too well. Humans their greed, their divisions, their inability to accept what was different.

Even in his previous world, it had been the same. "Then... you must hate humans," Nova said carefully. "So why did you agree to join me?"

Rieka stopped walking for a moment and turned to look at him. "Yes. I do hate humans," she said without hesitation. "I can kill them without batting an eye."

Nova swallowed slightly.

"But you..." Her gaze remained steady." ƒreewebɳovel.com

....you’re different."

"How?" Nova asked, a hint of unease in his voice. "I have a special ability " she replied. "Every person has a scent that reflects their intent. I can tell whether someone holds evil intentions toward me or not."

"Most humans do," she added calmly.

Nova didn’t question her. There was no reason for her to lie. "And you don’t look at me the way others do," she continued. "No hatred, No disgust and no ulterior motive ."

There was a brief pause. "And you don’t look at me with cold eyes like other humans do," she added, her voice calm. "And if you did have bad intentions toward me... I would have killed you before you even realized it. From what I can see, you’ve only just awakened recently."

"I see..." Nova replied, swallowing slightly. He understood that she wasn’t lying. He could clearly feel the gap in strength between them.

After walking for around forty minutes, they finally reached the dungeon entrance. The air felt different here heavier, as if something unseen lingered within.

Nova glanced at Rieka. "Have you done dungeon missions before?"

"I have only twice," she replied calmly. "But those were D-rank missions. This will be my first time attempting a C-rank dungeon." She paused for a moment before adding, "What I find more surprising or maybe stupid is you being level 1 and attempting a C-rank dungeon."

Nove let out an awkward laugh. "Haa... yeah..."

She wasn’t wrong.

Rieka looked at him again, her expression turning slightly sharper. "One more thing... are you planning to fight those beasts with your bare hands? Do you not have a weapon?"

That’s when it hit him, ’Oh... shit. I forgot.’

He hadn’t wanted to reveal to his parents that he was going into a dungeon, so he never asked for a weapon.

Before he could say anything "Here. Take this."

Rieka tossed a sword toward him. Nova quickly caught it, surprised. It was a decent weapon, simple but well-balanced.

"Wait... what about you?" he asked.

Rieka smirked slightly.

"I prefer my claws over any weapon."

She said it with a smug look on her face, then added, "Remember one more thing. There is a time dilation between dungeons and the real world."

She continued walking as she explained, "Most of the time, dungeons move faster than the outside world, but the exact rate depends on the dungeon itself. For example, in some dungeons, one day inside can equal just one hour in the real world."

She glanced at him briefly.

"So don’t get too shocked after coming out."

Nova was stunned hearing this.

To confirm, he immediately asked the system.

[Yes, Host. What she said is true.]

If there was time dilation, then it worked completely in his favor. He could take his time inside the dungeon, focus on leveling up without worrying about anything else, and still have enough time left in the real world to complete is rest of the work.
