Chapter 170: The Demon’s Ascent

"Blam...blam...blam,"

The battle grew even more fierce. Now, three comets seemed to merge as they fought at close range.

"Enough!"

"Blaam!"

Ray detonated his energy. Daisy and Dennis were pushed back though they were not injured, then they saw Ray in front of them change form. A horn appeared on his forehead like a unicorn’s, his hair turned white, and his mouth—which was not covered by the mask—immediately sprouted large fangs behind his upper and lower lips. Both of his arms became twice as muscular as before, and a round hologram shield enveloped his body.

Dennis and Daisy, seeing this, immediately stood on guard and prepared themselves. Suddenly, Ray vanished and appeared behind Dennis. When Dennis turned back, it was too late; Ray had already slammed his elbow down, sending Dennis streaking toward the ground at high speed.

"Honey!"

Daisy screamed, about to follow him.

But before she could move, Ray slipped behind and above Daisy, dropping his heel onto her shoulder, sending her streaking after Dennis toward the fall below. Dennis, who had stood up and looked up, saw Daisy hurtling toward him and immediately caught her.

"Are you okay?" Dennis asked.

"I’m fine... just a fall," answered Daisy, held in Dennis’s arms.

"He’s coming," Dennis said, looking up.

"Yeah," Daisy replied, looking up.

Ray descended rapidly with both legs enveloped in multicolored energy so that he looked like a falling comet, aimed directly at them. Instantly, Dennis and Daisy created a circular shield to protect themselves by raising their hands and holding onto each other. "Blaaaaam!" The collision of the two energies destroyed the entire landmass and caused the sea to fill it in. The struggle of competing energies produced a bright light and created a massive semi-circular sphere of radiance with sparks of lightning surrounding it.

"Hiyaaaaah!"

Dennis and Daisy released all their energy and pushed Ray back. The energy clash ended with Ray somersaulting backward and hovering in front of them, because the land beneath them was gone, replaced only by a sea with massive waves. Daisy immediately split her katana into two and raised her hand; a black hole like mud opened beneath Ray’s feet and thousands of black, spirit-like hands emerged from within, grabbing the legs of Ray, who looked down.

"Attaaaaack!"

Dennis and Daisy immediately lunged forward and attacked the immobilized Ray at high speed and with rapid succession from all directions. Ray, whose movement was limited, could finally only parry and absorb the attacks that slipped through his defense. After they were satisfied, Dennis and Daisy retreated back. Daisy immediately slashed her swords, sending blood-red crescent beams toward Ray, while Dennis struck with a massive fist-shaped light wave at him. "Blaaam!" Both beams hit Ray until he was covered in thick smoke.

"Did... we win?" Daisy asked while maintaining her stance.

"I don’t know," Dennis answered while holding his spear stance.

[Be careful, Master... Mistress.]

Suddenly Sami screamed in their heads. Too late; from behind the thick smoke, two massive multicolored energy tentacles emerged and instantly coiled around the bodies of Dennis and Daisy.

"What is this," Dennis screamed.

But before he could get an answer, a sudden bolt of purple lightning struck them. "Yaaaaah!" both screamed as the purple electricity surged through them. Dennis struggled to raise his spear and threw it hard into the mist. The fog vanished, and their bonds released. Both fell to their knees, their bodies tingling from the shock. Then they looked ahead and their eyes went wide. Ray no longer looked human. He had four legs like a horse with spikes along his back, his upper torso appeared plated in shimmering, strong black dragon scales, his face had turned green, four burnt black angel wings sprouted from his back, and his ears had grown long.

Ray’s form looked like a fusion of all the races in the world, appearing both terrifying and disgusting. His face looked furious, and his breath released a misty smoke as if he were freezing.

"Die, both of you," Ray screamed in a horrific voice.

He thrust both hands forward, and a massive laser beam shot directly at Dennis and Daisy, who were still kneeling. They immediately deployed their round hologram shields to block the laser. "Crack," their shields fractured. "Pyaaash," as the shields shattered, Dennis immediately pulled Daisy into an embrace.

"Aaaakh!" both were sent flying back by the impact of the massive laser, crashing onto the mainland whose borders had already receded. When they landed, Dennis lay motionless on top of Daisy’s body.

"Honey... are you okay, honey?" Daisy screamed in a panic, seeing Dennis with his eyes closed in front of her, pinned beneath him.

"Plip,"

"Plip,"

The sound of an EKG machine echoed in the hospital room. "Ugh," Dennis opened his eyes. He saw the bright ceiling when he first opened them, then he shut his eyes once more, and as his consciousness returned, he snapped them open.

"Huh,"

He immediately sat up. "Clang," he accidentally pulled his IV pole until it fell onto his bed. Then he looked around and realized he was in a hospital.

"Huh... am I in a hospital?" Dennis asked in his head.

He looked down and then at his arms; it turned out his body was large and fat again just like before. His face instantly turned pale.

"W... what happened... am I... fat again?" Dennis asked in his head.

"Click,"

The room door opened. William and Eleanor, who heard the noise inside, rushed in. Their eyes went wide when they saw Dennis awake and sitting on the bed. Both immediately burst into tears and Eleanor covered her mouth with her hand.

"Dad... Mom?" Dennis asked, confused.

Without answering, both approached Dennis. Eleanor immediately hugged Dennis and William gripped Dennis’s shoulders tightly with trembling hands while holding back his tears.

"Thank God you’re safe, son. None of the terrorists who crashed the plane into your school survived," William said.

"Huh... a plane crashed into the school? Huh... is this... the real world?" Dennis asked.

"What are you talking about? Of course this is the real world... you just woke up from a coma after six months; it’s natural for you to be confused," Eleanor answered.

Dennis immediately turned toward the window and looked out. It turned out the conditions outside were truly bright and clearly not an artificial dome. Dennis raised his hand and covered his face. Not long after, a female doctor entered. As soon as he saw the doctor, Dennis reacted instantly.

"Sami... is this the real world?" Dennis asked.

The atmosphere in the room turned silent. The female doctor, William, and Eleanor stared at Dennis seriously. The only sound in the room was the EKG machine.

"I am a doctor at this hospital, my name is Samantha. I was indeed called Sami when I was a child," the doctor named Samantha said with a smile.

"W... what? Daisy... what about Daisy... my wife," Dennis screamed in a panic. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"Your wife? You’re only 17 years old and... I’m sorry, besides you, no one survived that incident," William said.

"W... what? I... I have to find Daisy... please let me go," Dennis said frantically, his face looking truly anxious.

"Calm down, son, calm down," William said, trying to restrain the panicking Dennis.

With great effort, William held back the struggling Dennis until finally, Doctor Samantha asked the nurses to help hold Dennis and gave him a sedative injection. Dennis became unsteady again and lay back on his bed.

"Why... why is it like this... why did I come back to the real world... I don’t want to... I don’t want to... I want to be with Daisy," Dennis muttered in his head while closing his eyes as his consciousness began to fade until finally, it vanished.

"Honey,"

"Honey,"

"Wake up, honey,"

"Ugh,"

Dennis opened his eyes again; this time the first thing he saw was Daisy’s face looking anxiously at him, and he felt himself lying on something hard, which was the ground. Dennis immediately stood up and embraced Daisy tightly,

"Uh... what is it, honey... you’re crushing me," Daisy said, hugging him back but sounding strained.

"Oh... sorry... I had a dream... I’ll tell you later... where is Ray," Dennis said.

"Over there... he’s covering everything with darkness again," Daisy said, pointing toward the ocean.

Dennis stood up with Daisy’s help and saw Ray, who was trapped within a black sphere of light, releasing his dark energy; the few open spots in the sky were slowly closing again.

"Sami... am I still alive in the real world?" Dennis asked in his head.

Daisy, hearing this, immediately turned to look at Dennis because she didn’t understand why Dennis would ask about that,

[No, Master, no one survived that incident. Why?]

"It’s nothing... I feel something flowing through my body," Dennis said.

[Open your status, Master... it seems that beam just now caused you to undergo an awakening.]

"Vwoooong,"

Dennis immediately opened his status screen; his eyes went wide, as did Daisy’s, who was watching along with him.
