Chapter 2979: Chapter 2498: What kind of friend comes looking for you so late?

He really was waiting outside the gate.

Joanna had no doubt that if she didn’t go out, Ashton Heath would really wait outside all night.

But Joanna couldn’t let him wait outside all night.

"Mom, I need to go out for a bit."

She pulled her gaze back from the dark night outside the window, ready to go find Ashton Heath.

"You want to go out now?" Madam White checked the time and exclaimed in surprise, "It’s so late, where are you going?"

"Ashton Heath is here." Joanna didn’t hide anything from Madam White, "He’s waiting for me outside. I have to go see him."

"So he was the one who sent you the message earlier?"

"Yes."

"This child." Madam White chuckled, "It’s only been two days, and he can’t help himself. I knew he would sneak over to see you, but I didn’t expect him to lose control after only one day apart. That’s a bit surprising to me."

It’s always the women who cling to the men, rarely the other way around.

Her son-in-law was an exception, though.

No matter how you looked at it, her son-in-law seemed to care more about her daughter.

Only one day apart, and he couldn’t help but come to find her.

Even young couples in the honeymoon phase weren’t this clingy.

Her daughter’s choice of son-in-law had previously worried Madam White, but now she could be at ease.

She had thought that her too-perfect son-in-law would be too much for her daughter to handle, and feared that she might suffer in the future. Now it seemed that she was just overthinking.

This outstanding son-in-law, who was one in a million, was obviously under her daughter’s thumb.

Madam White’s gentle smile turned tender as she gazed at her obedient and cute daughter in front of her. She reached out to touch Joanna’s head and softly spoke, "Go on, you don’t have to come back tonight. You can wait and return tomorrow."

Madam White had also been through it, so she wouldn’t be a stickler for customs and not allow her daughter to see her son-in-law.

Who cared about customs?

All that mattered was that her daughter and son-in-law had a good relationship and lived happily together.

Joanna was a little taken aback by Madam White’s words, "I don’t have to come back tonight?"

"If you want to come back, come back; if you don’t, then don’t." Madam White smiled amiably, "Even though there are customs, there’s no need to cling to them. However, you’ll have to come back tomorrow morning."

"We still have to do what’s necessary on the surface."

"Alright, go find Ashton now." Madam White petted her head again, her eyes full of indulgence, "Don’t make him wait too long."

Joanna left the house in her pajamas.

When she got downstairs, she ran into Gary White, who had just returned from outside.

"Brother," Joanna obediently greeted him.

Gary White nodded, then reached out to stop her as he saw her about to leave, "Where are you going so late?"

"I... I’m going to meet a friend." Joanna didn’t need to hide anything from Madam White, but she felt a little embarrassed to tell her brother the truth.

"Meet a friend?" Gary White narrowed his eyes suspiciously, "What friend is looking for you this late?"

He recalled that when he had returned earlier, he seemed to have caught a glimpse of a car parked by the gate.

That car looked familiar.

"Yes, it’s just a friend. I won’t tell you anymore. My friend is still waiting for me outside, I have to go." Afraid that Gary White would interrogate her further, Joanna quickly pushed him away and dashed out.

"What’s she up to, being all secretive?" Gary White watched Joanna run away. Worried about her going out this late, he was about to follow her when he suddenly made a connection.
