Chapter 2956: Chapter 2474: I Can’t Let Winnie Go to Jail
Hearing that his daughter was safe and sound, Brandon Heath breathed a sigh of relief, and his worried heart finally eased.
He contemplated for a few seconds before turning to look at the disheartened Darren Heath beside him, thinking, and said, "Based on what Diana Kinsman just said, what she gave Dad doesn’t seem to be any poison."
"However, just to be on the safe side, I think we should still go to the hospital for a checkup."
Ashton Heath nodded in agreement: "I think so too. Going by her words just now, the pill Dad took wasn’t any poison. Brandon, you should go back and be with sister-in-law. With everything that happened, you should comfort her for a while."
"I’ll accompany Dad to the hospital for the examination."
"Alright, let’s do it that way."
*
The examination results were out, and the pill Diana Kinsman gave Darren Heath was not poison.
It was just an ordinary cold medicine.
"Uncle Heath’s body is in good shape, you don’t need to worry," Denver Lancaster patted Ashton Heath’s shoulder. "But he seems mentally exhausted, as if he’s taken quite a blow. He’ll need a good rest when he goes back."
*
Ashton Heath walked out of Denver Lancaster’s office and saw Darren Heath standing in the corridor, lost in thought. Ashton approached him without Darren noticing, still standing there motionless, his gaze fixed in a certain direction without speaking.
"Dad, the examination results just came out. Your body is fine. The pill you took was just a cold medicine," Ashton Heath told him the results.
Slowly, Darren Heath turned his head: "The pill I took was a cold medicine?"
"Yes."
Darren Heath fell silent again.
"Ashton, Winnie didn’t hurt Stacy or me; she just wanted to vent her anger on behalf of her mother and sought my attitude. I have already owed Mia too much, I don’t want to owe our daughter more."
"Winnie is my daughter, but I never knew of her existence, and I never fulfilled the responsibilities and obligations a father should have. It was indeed my fault back then. I wronged Mia. Now that Mia is gone from this world, I can’t make it up to her anymore."
"So, anyhow, I must protect Winnie."
When Darren Heath said this, he looked up at Ashton Heath: "I can’t let Winnie go to jail."
"Diana Kinsman did not hurt Stacy or you, but she did kidnap Stacy," Ashton Heath heard that Darren Heath wanted them not to pursue Diana Kinsman, so he spoke in an official tone, "Even though she didn’t hurt Stacy this time, we can’t guarantee there won’t be a next time."
"Moreover, even if I can overlook this matter, Brandon and Aria will definitely not let her off easily. Grandma hasn’t woken up from the shock because of Stacy, and sister-in-law nearly fainted crying several times. Even if she didn’t hurt Stacy, others have been hurt by this incident. I don’t think anyone will agree to let her off just like that."
"It wouldn’t be fair to Brandon and Aria."
Darren Heath’s expression changed slightly, his lips moved.
As if wanting to say something, but in the end, he said nothing.
What could he say?
He felt guilty towards Mia Kinsman, and guilty towards Diana Kinsman. He wanted to make amends and protect Diana.
But the words Ashton Heath just said made it clear that he could not protect Diana in his heart.
This was not up to him alone.
He could choose not to pursue the matter, but he couldn’t expect others to do the same.
