Chapter 314: Then, Find Him.
Meanwhile, Gustav boarded a private plane bound for the mainland.
He sat in one of the seats with a man across from him, the rest of the cabin empty. They had confiscated Gustav’s phone and anything else he might have used as a weapon.
"You seem to be enjoying that a little too much," Gustav remarked, watching the middle-aged man work through a high-grade steak.
The man glanced up and met his gaze, still chewing.
"You should try it," he said. "It’s good."
Gustav’s expression didn’t change. "What did you do to Lukas, Jony?"
Jony set down his fork and wiped his mouth with a cloth, then reached for his wine glass.
"We rescued him," he said plainly, then drained the glass as though it were water. "My men went to his place to collect him and found him already under attack. So we pulled him out."
He set the glass down.
"He took a hit in the process — nothing fatal. He’s already being transported to the mainland. He’ll be fine."
Gustav nodded.
Not out of doubt. If anything, the opposite. Before Jony’s people had arrived, Gustav himself had nearly been attacked. It just so happened that Jony had shown up first and dealt with it.
"You mentioned the Madam would be on the mainland as well," Gustav said, shifting the subject. "I find myself wondering what the High Chamber wants from her."
Jony smiled.
"Madam?" He let out an amused sound. "You call her that now? Interesting, coming from the Dragon’s stubborn right hand. I didn’t expect you to acknowledge someone like her. Surely, that woman’s skilled. She managed to seduce the Black Dragon, and now, even the Black Dragon’s right hand."
Gustav’s eyes glinted. "If she were standing in front of you, wouldn’t you call her the same?" He tilted his head. "Or rather, wouldn’t the High Chamber address her as the Madam of Dominion regardless?"
The smile on Jony’s face dimmed. freёweɓnovel.com
"At this point, it doesn’t matter to me, to you, or to the High Chamber," Gustav continued, settling back in his seat. "Whether she’s fit to hold the title depends entirely on how much you stand to gain from it. Isn’t that the case?"
He tilted his head. "If even the High Chamber is willing to bow to an empty title in order to exploit it, why can’t I?"
A smirk touched his lips.
"Isn’t it interesting that the High Chamber still needs the legitimacy of the Madam of Dominion to take control of everything?" His eyes narrowed. "Not quite as amusing when you look at it that way, is it, Jony?"
Gustav chuckled and leaned forward over the table, lowering his head until he was looking Jony directly in the eye.
"There’s something else that puzzles me, though." His voice dropped. "You and the High Chamber are behaving as though my master is already dead."
His expression darkened. "If he wakes up — I wonder how the High Chamber plans to explain all of this."
"Ah." Gustav nodded slowly. "You’ll say you were only trying to protect the Madam from outside threats."
He chuckled and shook his head. "Politics truly isn’t for me."
If it were up to Gustav, he would have eliminated every threat the moment Lucian took power. But Lucian had made it clear: doing so would have undone everything he was trying to build. Dominion had existed long before Lucian was born, and it would go on existing without him. No matter how dirty the High Chamber played, violence wasn’t always the answer.
Unless someone made the kind of mistake Hector had. Then, it was easier for Lucian to deal with them.
The silence broke when Jony chuckled.
"If the Black Dragon wakes up..." He leaned forward slightly, smirking. "Gustav, the man is terminally ill. The High Chamber has looked into it thoroughly. No cure exists. You could pray to God, and nothing would change." freewёbnoνel.com
He shook his head.
"And even if a cure appeared tonight — do you think it would change anything at this point?"
He reached for the bottle and poured himself another glass, then slid a second one across the table toward Gustav.
"Unless he wakes up tonight, nothing changes." Jony leaned back and raised his glass slightly. "What I’m telling you is that you’re lucky the High Chamber doesn’t like wasting talent."
His tone carried a deliberate edge.
"You’re a smart man. I think you already know the High Chamber is offering you an opportunity." He swirled the wine. "When Lucian took power, he gave no one a chance. The High Chamber isn’t like him."
Gustav stared at him for a long moment.
"Jony," he said finally, "when the Master wakes up — don’t forget how casually you spoke his name just now."
Jony snorted. "Sure."
Beneath the table, Gustav’s hands closed into fists.
He wanted to believe that miracles were possible. But if anyone understood how severe Lucian’s condition truly was, it was him. No amount of prayer would fix this overnight.
In the middle of Jony’s unhurried meal, his phone vibrated against his chest. He pulled it out, listened for a moment, then smirked at Gustav.
"Good work, Tinie. I’ll ask him." He ended the call and leaned back.
"Tinie’s already with the Di Carpio woman." He waved a hand. "Told you there was nothing to worry about. You’ll see her soon enough."
Gustav felt something tighten in his chest. He kept his face still.
Jony raised a brow.
"The young master, however, is missing." He tapped the armrest. "The woman claims she doesn’t know where the boy is." He smirked. "Since you’re Lucian’s lapdog, why don’t you tell me where you’ve hidden him?"
Gustav knew exactly where Primo was. But whatever Ashley had set in motion, he had no intention of getting in the way of it.
He said nothing.
"There’s no point staying quiet," Jony said. "If I were you, I’d open my mouth before we find him ourselves."
Slowly, Gustav’s lips curved.
"Then find him." His smile held. "Good luck."
