Chapter 312: Can You Take Me To Him?

Meanwhile, at the hospital...

Beep... beep... beep...

Khan held his breath as he watched Lucian’s eyes open, slowly and with great effort. His mouth parted. For a second, he felt his own heart stop.

"He’s..." he breathed. "He’s awake."

But the moment those words left his lips, the steady rhythm on the monitor lurched. It started slowly and then spiked erratically, the line on the screen jumping with it.

"Huh?" Khan froze, staring at the numbers. He was not a professional, but the way they moved brought this panic in his chest.

"What the—"

He was about to rush out for a doctor when nurses and doctors were already flooding in, pushing him out of the ward. Khan didn’t get in the way, but he kept his eyes on Lucian and the doctors as he got pushed out.

Minutes later, one of the doctors stepped back outside.

"The patient is stable for now," the doctor said. "However, he’ll remain under close observation. We don’t yet know why his vitals spiked, so we’ll be running additional tests."

Khan, Warriyo, and Nelek listened, then watched him go.

Once the hallway emptied, Khan sank onto the steel bench outside the private ward.

"Damn." He dragged a hand down his face. "What the hell was that? I thought he was gonna die."

Warriyo and Nelek, who had been guarding outside when it happened, exchanged a glance.

They understood Khan’s distress. They were here to make sure no one got to Lucian. But if the threat was coming from Lucian’s own body, there was nothing any of them could do about that.

"War," Khan broke the silence, looking up at Warriyo. "Is it normal for someone to wake up and almost die?"

Warriyo shrugged. "It’s not unheard of. It happens." He paused. "Given where he is in the illness — it’s possible." fгeewebnovёl.com

He didn’t say the rest aloud.

But if Warriyo were being honest, he would have called it expected. Lucian was fighting, but it wouldn’t surprise anyone if this was a fight he lost.

Khan pinched the bridge of his nose. He’d only caught fragments of what was happening outside, but he could tell the situation beyond these walls had already grown far larger than what they could see from here. And the longer they went without word from the others, the worse he expected it to get.

"Hey!"

Suddenly, Rus’s voice cut through the quiet of the hallway.

The three of them turned. He was walking toward them, wiping sweat from his forehead.

"How’s the Black Dragon?" He slowed as he took in their expressions. "What’s wrong? He’s not dead, is he?"

"No," Nelek said. "But he almost went into cardiac arrest. He flatlined for a moment."

Rus’s mouth fell open. "He flatlined?"

"Just for a second. He’s stable now," Warriyo said, then glanced past him down the hallway. "You weren’t followed?"

"No. Good thing Gustav sent that emergency alert," Rus dropped onto the bench beside Khan. "I got out with the others before we were caught."

"Who was raiding the hospital?" Nelek asked. "Dominion?"

Earlier, Gustav had sent out a distress call, which meant they’d been compromised. Everyone stationed at the hospital had been ordered to clear out immediately, no questions asked.

"I tried to get a look before I left," Rus said, his tone going flat. He leaned forward, forearms on his thighs, eyes moving between the three of them. "It’s Interpol. They’re raiding the hospital looking for the Black Dragon."

He exhaled. "Good thing the Madam moved him. But I have no idea what comes next."

They had been bracing for assassins.

Interpol, in the middle of all this — that was a different problem entirely.

"That man needs to wake up," Rus muttered, eyes cutting toward the ward door. "If he doesn’t pull through in the next day, I don’t know what any of us are going to do."

Khan, Nelek, and Warriyo turned toward the door one by one.

Their lips pressed into thin lines.

It was only Lucian’s second night in the hospital. And yet the fallout from his absence kept growing.

Primo sat in the back of the spare vehicle with Nolan. Rum was driving, Gin in the front passenger seat.

Nobody spoke. Rum and Gin stayed alert, eyes moving between the mirrors and the road, making sure they hadn’t picked up a tail. Nolan kept glancing back through the rear window, figuring an extra set of eyes couldn’t hurt.

Primo hadn’t been told anything directly, but he’d seen enough of the neighborhood before they left to understand that something was very wrong.

It didn’t surprise him. Without Lucian, people got bold. They always did, until the Black Dragon came back.

He shifted his gaze to Nolan and reached over, tugging gently at his sleeve.

Nolan startled slightly and turned. "Young Master? What is it? Do you need something — are you carsick?"

Rum glanced at them in the rearview mirror and quietly eased off the accelerator.

Primo shook his head and signed.

[Can I go see him?]

Nolan blinked. "Sorry?"

[Can you take me to my father?]

Gin looked back, brows drawing together.

"Young Master, you want to go to the hospital?"

Primo nodded, looking between Gin and Nolan.

[Can you take me to him? Can you do that?]

Nolan had understood him the first time. He’d just been hoping his own anxiety had made him misread the signs.

Gin looked to Nolan as well. The call wasn’t his to make — Ashley had told them to take Primo and Nolan straight to the safe house. But Gin was worried about Lucian. He could tell Rum was too, from the way his eyes kept finding Nolan in the mirror.

"Khan and the others are already there," Rum said. "We’re stronger together."

Primo nodded and looked back at Nolan.

Nolan opened his mouth, closed it, then let out a quiet breath. He forced a small smile.

"As long as we’re sure we’re not being followed," he said, glancing at Rum and Gin, "take us to where the Master is."
