Chapter 96: Chapter Ninety-Six: The Experience of D-415
Chen Ze heard the sound of the Wind Chime and immediately stuck his head out to take a look, only to see a blond man standing in the restaurant, his face full of unease.
Chen Ze frowned, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this person didn’t quite seem like a guest from another world, but more like an ordinary...guest?
"Welcome to Dream Restaurant, may I ask what you would like to eat?" Nonetheless, Chen Ze stepped forward to ask, since the customer had already come in, he couldn’t just turn him away because he looked like an ordinary person.
Chen Ze sized up the guest, who was dressed in a suit and probably came from the same civilization as Chen Ze, but with Saitama and Liu Maoxing as precedents, Chen Ze didn’t think of that particular organization from before.
"Uh..." D-415 touched his ear, feeling a bit uncomfortable without his earpiece, but the research staff had already briefed him on what to do once he arrived, so D-415 tried to remain calm.
"What... what’s to eat here?" D-415 turned around, seemingly taking in the decor of the restaurant.
"Here is our menu," said Chen Ze, taking out a menu. He was somewhat regretful that the menu Betty prepared should have sufficed, but now that guests from other worlds had come in, Chen Ze planned to make a new menu with only pictures the next day.
"These..." D-415’s eyes widened, he couldn’t recognize any of the words on the menu, and it seemed to have two lines, but he could make out the pictures; he even found some dishes he had eaten before.
D-415 agonized over the menu’s pictures, he could roughly make out there was Buffet, as well as Cheesecake Light, and even Mango Mousse. These were all things he had eaten... to be precise, things he had once eaten.
"Then just... just give me these three," D-415 dared not choose other items; he preferred food he had eaten before, as he would be able to tell immediately if something was wrong.
"Very well, please wait a moment," Chen Ze nodded and then went back to the kitchen to prepare the Mango Mousse and the other two desserts.
D-415 watched his surroundings warily. He knew there was a pinhole camera in the pocket of his jacket, so he intentionally picked up the menu and flipped through it, hoping to record more information.
At that moment, he heard a very strange noise, which made him involuntarily look up, and then he froze.
D-415 stared dumbfounded at the creature before him, a female with bat wings on her back descending the stairs, with a tail swinging behind her. Even more bizarrely, this creature, appearing like a demon, was oddly dressed in a maid’s outfit.
D-415 couldn’t help but rub his eyes, and then he was sure, there indeed was a demon before him.
Betty looked curiously at D-415; there was something odd about this man. She could sense a hint of fear from him. Betty licked her lips, as for a demon, absorbing the fear of other intelligent beings was one way to enhance their strength.
However, Betty glanced at the kitchen; when Chen Ze first took her in, he made it clear that she was not to harm the guests, which made her sigh with regret, before she ran to the kitchen to feel the Arcane Wisdom Stone.
"Manager, this guest is really strange," Betty touched the Wisdom Stone, and then took a light sniff of the increasingly fragrant aroma in the air, which made it hard for her to resist swallowing her saliva.
"What’s strange about him?" Chen Ze put the Mango Mousse on a plate and wiped his hands with a towel.
"It’s just that he seems to be very afraid of me?" Betty had felt that the closer she got to him, the stronger his fear became when she first entered the kitchen.
"What’s so strange about that?" Chen Ze rolled his eyes. He thought it normal for an ordinary person to be afraid upon suddenly seeing a demon.
"But before..."
"Not every guest is like Lafra or Gu Aotian; there will always be ordinary people coming in. Obviously, this one is an ordinary person." Chen Ze placed Buffet on a plate and signaled Betty to serve it.
Betty carried the plates out and placed all three desserts in front of D-415, politely saying, "Enjoy your meal."
Then she saw D-415 suddenly jerk his chair back, his face filled with horror.
Betty couldn’t help but touch her own face, confident in her appearance, yet now she began to suspect something demonic was at play.
"Could it be that I’m really ugly?"
D-415, trembling, let out a sigh of relief after Betty left, remembering that he had been unable to understand the demon’s speech, but then suddenly he had. Was this the demon’s whisper? Was he going insane?
He swallowed, then picked up a spoon. The desserts looked quite nice, with nothing out of the ordinary. D-415 scooped up a bit of Buffet and put it in his mouth.
The familiar sweetness tasted even better than the Buffet he had once enjoyed in Europe, which relaxed D-415 quite a bit. However, he soon thought of another problem—this was a restaurant, and restaurants required payment. He had looked at the menu earlier and seen no prices.
And the waiter from before was a demon...
D-415’s face turned bitter, realizing he might have unconsciously fallen into a demon’s trap. Could the price for these desserts be his soul?
With such an anxious heart, D-415 finished all three desserts, but perhaps because of his mood, the meal tasted joyless to him.
"Boss... the... the check..." Chen Ze walked out, puzzled by the man’s deathly expression.
"Guest, the total is one hundred yuan." Chen Ze, unaware of the customer’s nationality, simply gave a rough figure.
"Okay... okay." D-415 took out his wallet, which held various currencies, prepared by the researchers.
"Do you accept euros or...?"
"RMB." Then Chen Ze received a bill that looked very different from the Earth’s RMB. ƒreewebɳovel.com
But Chen Ze said nothing, merely watching the guest leave, trembling with fear.
As soon as D-415 stepped out the door, the researchers directed him to a special room for various checks, and the pinhole camera and memory card hidden in his clothes were taken away.
"Did you capture anything?" the female doctor asked.
"No, Doctor, the memory card was damaged."
"It seems we can only question D-415 then."
After a period of questioning, the doctor noted down all the information recounted by D-415 with a frown.
"Based on the information we currently know, we will list it as a subject for observation for the time being. We cannot determine whether the D-class personnel was subject to any psychological influence."
