Chapter 79: Chapter 79: The Good News Brought by Alisa
"Let me see, what do I need to buy today? Definitely need lamb." Chen Ze got up very early the next morning, despite feeling sleepy, because he was determined to make his stuffed buns, he persevered and climbed out of his warm bed. frёewebηovel.cѳm
"Tsk, it seems only lamb is missing, so I’ll just pick up some lamb tails as well, otherwise, it feels like it won’t be enough." Chen Ze shook his head, not to boast, but a few lamb tails wouldn’t be enough for even one of his barbecues.
Arriving at the lamb wholesale market, Chen Ze cautiously surveyed the area, almost making the taxi driver think he was a criminal planning to make some big news.
"Phew... luckily that chatterbox isn’t around." Chen Ze breathed a sigh of relief, as he really didn’t want to encounter Li Shufu.
Even though he had enjoyed putting him in his place last time, that didn’t mean Chen Ze was willing to continue listening to his droning on. He would rather not come at all and learn to make a different dish instead.
"Yo, young chef, you’re here again?" The vendor who had sold lamb to Chen Ze last time greeted him warmly.
"Yeah, Master, give me five kilos of lamb meat, and I’ll take all the lamb tails too." Chen Ze checked his WeChat balance; the money in there was still enough.
But after this purchase, Chen Ze had to set up a stall, otherwise, his wallet would be empty again.
After buying what he needed, Chen Ze returned to the restaurant to arrange his things, and then he went off to the culinary school.
When Chen Ze returned to the restaurant, it was already 6:30 in the evening.
Chen Ze washed up quickly, changed his clothes, and went to unlock the restaurant, ready to start business.
"First I’ll roll out the dough, the skin for stuffed buns should be thinner around the edges." Chen Ze took out the dough that had been resting and started rolling.
But Chen Ze had no experience with rolling dough. Although he had helped his family make dumplings at home before, they had used ready-made wrappers, and now he had to do it by hand; the result was as one might expect.
Before long, Chen Ze watched the thing that was supposed to be a dough wrapper with a twitching mouth, tattered with several holes; he had no idea how he managed to roll it out like that.
No one would believe if you took this out and said it was a dough wrapper, but they might believe if you said it was a pair of ripped jeans.
"Heh... turning rolled dough into something that resembles jeans, I might well be the first among chefs to do that." Chen Ze shook his head with a wry smile; luckily, he had come prepared and had several sets of ingredients ready in advance.
Chen Ze touched the Arcane Wisdom Stone and glanced at his phone; it was nearly seven o’clock. Betty was probably going to show up soon.
"Manager~" Betty’s voice indeed rang out, but a little earlier than Chen Ze had anticipated, and he had just managed to roll out a wrapper that was barely usable. frёewebηovel.cѳm
"Now it’s time to add the marinated meat filling, right?" Chen Ze ignored Betty, since she was going to head upstairs to bathe and change clothes anyway, and he might as well keep working on his buns.
After adding a spoonful of meat filling, Chen Ze shaped a bun that looked like a cockscomb, which was the shape he had found in the recipe.
"Time to steam." Chen Ze didn’t quite understand why a kitchen that seemed equipped for Western cuisine would have a steaming basket, but it certainly saved him some trouble.
"The meat filling is also according to the recipe, but I couldn’t find that particular ’Piyazi’ onion mentioned, so I used local onions instead. It shouldn’t be a problem, right?" Chen Ze felt a bit uneasy, but there was no helping it; even ordering through express delivery would take several days to arrive.
Chen Ze stretched lazily; he hadn’t steamed all the thin skin buns at once. If this batch failed, probably the whole basket would be ruined, and he didn’t want to make such a foolish mistake.
Chen Ze peered out to check the restaurant; Betty hadn’t come down yet, and there were no customers. He decided to count his Gold Coins first, then think of a way to spend them.
The coins were rather tasteless kept with him, and it felt wasteful to discard them. Aside from paying Betty’s salary, they didn’t really serve any other purpose.
"Manager," a somewhat weary female voice.
Chen Ze, who hadn’t yet brought out his cash box, looked up curiously and saw Alisa, whom he hadn’t seen in a long time, smiling in the restaurant.
"Alisa? It’s been a while," Chen Ze said. It was always a pleasant surprise to see a familiar face, especially one who could point out the flaws in his cooking.
"Get me a Buffet first, I want to sit for a bit," Alisa said with a smile, but Chen Ze could see deep weariness in her smile.
Chen Ze nodded; he was a chef, not a psychologist, so making good food was more his forte.
Just as Chen Ze finished making the Buffet, Betty, who had changed her clothes, ran down, "Manager~ Eh? Miss Alisa, you’re here, welcome to Dream Restaurant!"
Alisa knew Betty, the succubus; she nodded at Betty "Betty, there’s no need for the welcome speech, right?"
Betty pouted towards the kitchen, "It’s all because that stubborn guy insisted."
Chen Ze brought out the Buffet and handed it to Alisa. This Buffet hadn’t triggered any special effects, just a plain Buffet. It was a bit disappointing.
"Same as usual?" Alisa asked Chen Ze.
"No, this time I want to ask if you know any ingredient merchants," Chen Ze shook his head, intending to settle this matter first.
Otherwise, his pile of Gold Coins would just keep growing, and sooner or later he wouldn’t be able to fit them in the restaurant, which would be quite the spectacle.
"Ingredients?" Alisa’s eyes lit up, she had just founded her own chamber of commerce.
"Yeah, because I have... erm... a lot of? Probably a lot, yeah, a lot of Gold Coins, so I am thinking of buying more ingredients," Chen Ze confirmed with a nod.
"Manager, allow me to introduce myself," Alisa straightened her clothes.
Chen Ze was utterly bewildered.
"I am the president of the Blood Rose Chamber of Commerce, Alisa Brandstone," Alisa said, excitedly looking at Chen Ze.
Her chamber was newly established, with few trading records and no reputation, and was even suppressed by a few local major chambers; she was quite troubled.
"A chamber of commerce? I see, that’s quite fortuitous," Chen Ze realized what Alisa meant.
"Then I will give you the Gold Coins later; you can bring me the ingredients next time you come." Chen Ze nodded and was about to head back to the kitchen; he already smelled the aroma of the steamed buns.
"Don’t you need to sign an agreement?" Alisa asked hesitantly. Although she had been there several times and knew Chen Ze, business was still business.
"No need," Chen Ze responded.
"Why not?"
"Because you’re Alisa," Chen Ze replied, turning back to look at her with a puzzled gaze. He trusted the credit of his customers a great deal.
Of course, if someone tried to dodge the bill, he had his ways of handling them.
