Chapter 619: Chapter 479: The Moon Goddess and the Impulse to Propose
Chen Ze propped up his chin, feeling really dreadful. In fact, attending the small-scale station’s party had been an even bigger waste of time than he had imagined, and what’s more, it was extremely tiring.
Only ghosts knew the kind of reaction and shouts from the crowd when Chen Ze showed up holding the items Hastur had given him, appearing in Hastur’s livestreaming persona, which made Chen Ze feel like there were eyes on his back.
"Phew... it’s already past 3 in the morning, huh..." Chen Ze glanced at his phone and saw that it was indeed past 3 am. In a sense, in just a few hours, he could open the door and start preparing for business. freewēbnoveℓ.com
The late night in Sun Moon City was very quiet, except for some passing vehicles and nightclubs still operating. Chen Ze tapped his fingers against his briefcase as he watched the scenery outside, now that he had taken that thing off, he could finally escape those dreadful stares.
"Wonder how Lafra is doing, if she’s fallen asleep yet." Chen Ze yawned.
When he reached the door of his own restaurant, Chen Ze still entered through the small side door and then closed it behind him.
Returning to the restaurant, he finally felt like he was back in his cozy den.
Chen Ze still remembered a good friend once asking him whether he’d buy a house or a car first if he ever had the money. Chen Ze chose the house, while the friend wanted to buy a car first.
And gave Chen Ze a whole list of reasons why, but Chen Ze stubbornly chose to buy a house. After all, only when you step into your own home do you feel a sense of belonging, like coming back home.
It was dark and silent inside the restaurant, and it took Chen Ze a while to adjust to the dark phantasmagoria before he could vaguely make out the entire restaurant.
"Fallen asleep already?" Chen Ze scratched his head and carefully held some takeout boxes he bought from outside as he walked into the restaurant.
"You’re back?" Lafra’s crisp voice suddenly sounded in the dark, which was still a bit frightening.
"Huff..." Chen Ze patted his chest as he had almost dropped the boxes on the ground out of fright.
"I missed you..." Before Chen Ze could turn around, he felt a warm thing embrace him, and Lafra rubbed her head against Chen Ze’s back.
"I missed you too. Why didn’t you turn on the lights?" Chen Ze smiled and then gently held Lafra’s hand.
"Hmph, don’t you know I’m a vampire?" Only when he heard Lafra’s voice did Chen Ze realize that he had completely forgotten that Lafra was a vampire.
Vampires can’t see at night? He’d never heard of vampires not being able to see in the dark, at least not until now.
"Hehe, it just slipped my mind for a moment." Chen Ze awkwardly pinched Lafra’s hand.
A sliver of light appeared from the tip of Lafra’s finger, like the first rays of dawn piercing through darkness, followed by a gently glowing orb rising up and floating below the ceiling of the restaurant.
The entire restaurant looked as if it was bathed in moonlight, making it look particularly beautiful.
"This is really... magical." Although Chen Ze had seen Lafra use magic before, seeing it again still evoked a sense of wonder.
"Hmph~ What did you bring for me?" Lafra let go and walked around Chen Ze, hands behind her back.
"This, it’s barbecue from here, and some night snacks I thought were quite good. Wait for me, I’ll go heat them up." Chen Ze felt the takeout boxes, which had gotten a bit cold.
"No need." Lafra reached out, and a ring of fire surrounded the boxes in Chen Ze’s hands, followed by the enticing aroma of the food wafting out.
Chen Ze smiled, shook his head, and then set the box down, opened it piece by piece, and placed everything on the table.
"This is a cocktail I made for you, would you like to try it?" Lafra looked at Chen Ze, then took a goblet out from the magic space beside her and handed it to Chen Ze.
Chen Ze curiously took it and glanced inside; it was a pale golden liquor, emitting an unusual fragrance. It wasn’t pungent but rather subtly elegant.
"What is this?" Chen Ze asked, a bit curious.
"This..." Lafra turned her head and looked to the side.
Chen Ze then saw Lafra snap her fingers.
"@¥%&..." Lafra, with her face flushed and head lowered, said something Chen Ze did not understand.
"Hmm??" Chen Ze was a bit confused, and then he saw Lafra snap her fingers again.
"I’m done~" Lafra stood with her hands behind her back, smiling at Chen Ze.
"Huh?" Chen Ze blinked, puzzled. Wasn’t his restaurant imbued with Arcane Wisdom? Why couldn’t he understand what she just said?
Then, Chen Ze remembered the snaps Lafra had made. It seemed likely that Lafra had used her power to temporarily suspend or disrupt the magic, causing him to misunderstand her words.
"..." Chen Ze looked at Lafra somewhat speechlessly. He felt Lafra had learned to be naughty, knowing how to whet someone’s appetite. Now, Chen Ze was extremely curious and really wanted to know what Lafra had just said.
"I’m not going to tell you." Lafra, seeing Chen Ze’s frustrated expression, laughed with great joy.
"Why not tell me," Chen Ze grumbled. They were already a couple, planning to get married and all, so what was there to hide?
"Because~" Lafra turned her back and looked up at the light orb on the ceiling.
Then Lafra slowly opened her arms, a mysterious fluctuation instantly swept through the entire restaurant, and Chen Ze saw the restaurant take on a new appearance.
A massive castle, a sky full of stars, the moon unseen, but everything around was very real and clearly visible.
The subtle scent of flowers, the soft breeze, and the sight of Lafra dressed in resplendent attire made Chen Ze become entranced.
"It’s a secret~" Lafra turned back, the breeze flowing through her long hair, revealing a gentle smile.
Suddenly, Chen Ze felt that, more than any supreme deity or such, the divine title that suited Lafra best would be the Moon God, for in this moment, Lafra was as enchantingly beautiful as the Moon God incarnate.
Looking at Lafra before him, Chen Ze subconsciously touched the box in his pocket. He had bought it while passing by the DR store on his way to the party, intending to plan a beautiful proposal before presenting it, but now, Chen Ze suddenly felt there was no moment more perfect than the present atmosphere.
Chen Ze took a deep breath, then, with resolve in his eyes, he walked forward, facing Lafra’s slightly surprised gaze, and knelt on one knee.
And then, he took out the box from his pocket.
