Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Chefs Occasionally Sew

"This is a misunderstanding," Chen Ze said calmly, his expression also very serene, showing none of the signs of someone caught doing something wrong.

"I understand, I understand, boss. I’ll come back tomorrow," Betty nodded with a knowing expression, then planned to back away.

"This Grey Elf is injured. Come over and help me quickly, I’m not joking." Chen Ze rolled his eyes in exasperation. He wasn’t familiar with the anatomy of otherworldly beings; what if he inadvertently used the wrong medicine and ended up killing Rose?

After all, she was his first customer, and Chen Ze didn’t want to witness such a horrific event. It’d be better to try and save her if possible.

"Grey Elf?" Upon hearing this, Betty ran over and helped Chen Ze lift Rose onto a chair.

"You seem to relax a lot when you heard it’s a Grey Elf?" Chen Ze glanced at Betty, thinking he might have to put in some effort to convince Betty he hadn’t done anything.

"Hehe, after all, Grey Elves are famously xenophobic. Aside from their own men, Grey Elf females wouldn’t have contact with any other males." Being from the same negative plane, Betty was clear about this fact; they had covered it in class.

"There’s such a thing?" Chen Ze was a bit dazed. From what he had seen in various films and shows, characters like Grey Elves always seemed to have tumultuous private lives.

He didn’t expect that the truth he learned from Betty would be so different, showing how preconceived notions can be misleading.

"Miss Rose?" Chen Ze shook her shoulder, but got no response. She seemed to be completely unconscious.

"Light elements are eroding her wound," Betty said with a furrowed brow, feeling a strong presence of light elements emanating from Rose, concentrated at the wound on her back.

"What do we do now?" Chen Ze blinked. He didn’t see anything shiny or glittering on Betty that would suggest she had some kind of magic gift.

"I remember... I remember you need to cover the light elements with dark elements..." Betty recalled her teacher saying this during class.

"Then you?" Chen Ze looked at Betty, knowing he himself had no knowledge of magic and was completely unfamiliar with dark elements.

"I... I can’t, my magic power... is inherently very weak..." Betty said, her head lowered, not meeting Chen Ze’s eyes.

As she explained, Betty was entirely helpless in treating Rose’s injuries. Her meager magic power was useless; any attempt would only stimulate the light elements.

Betty didn’t want her attempt to save someone to end up hastening their death instead.

Chen Ze rubbed his face, realizing that, for the time being, he could only rely on his own methods; otherwise, he’d have to wait for Gu Aotian or the Blood Ancestor to come and help.

But when they would arrive, Chen Ze had no idea.

What if they didn’t come? What if they decided not to show up today? What if Rose passed away in the meantime?

Chen Ze went upstairs, looking for something to suture the wound.

Soon after, Chen Ze came down with needle and thread. Failing to find proper medical supplies, he had no choice but to try his luck with these.

"Whether this works is up to fate," Chen Ze shook his head and asked Betty to pull down Rose’s clothes a bit.

Chen Ze first roughly disinfected with iodine, to prevent infection which would be troublesome.

Then, after sterilizing the needle with fire, Chen Ze began suturing Rose’s wound with the needle and thread.

Chen Ze wasn’t doing it professionally; he was merely leaving Rose’s fate to destiny. If she was lucky, she might pull through; if not, Chen Ze would only be able to ask Betty to take her back for burial.

As for asking Betty to take her back? That was out of the question. Rose would only reappear at the same place she entered from, and that place was in the human world, not where Betty was from. freēwēbnovel.com

"Boss, are you sure this is going to work?" Betty hesitated while looking at the wound and the twisted stitches.

If it weren’t for knowing that Chen Ze was not the kind of person who enjoys tormenting others, Betty would have thought that Rose had somehow provoked Chen Ze, causing him to take his frustrations out on her.

"Otherwise, do you have a better idea?" Chen Ze rolled his eyes and then returned to the kitchen.

He planned to make brown sugar eggs, so if Rose woke up, she could eat them to nourish her body.

If she didn’t wake up, it would be Chen Ze’s dinner instead.

After explaining things to Betty, Chen Ze started to concentrate on making brown sugar eggs. The preparation wasn’t complicated; the only challenge for beginners was knowing how to keep the eggs from falling apart while cooking.

Chen Ze remembered the time when he waited outside a delivery room with a friend and saw a new father who didn’t know how to cook brown sugar eggs; he had to learn on the spot from other parents waiting outside.

And because Chen Ze overheard their conversation, he learned how to make brown sugar eggs himself.

[You have made a normal portion of brown sugar eggs, home cooking experience increased by 3 points]

Perhaps because the dish was not complicated, the experience given was not much.

Chen Ze didn’t mind and covered the brown sugar eggs to keep them warm, then went out to check on things.

Even though Chen Ze was not familiar with the physiological structure of Grey Elves, he felt that since they were living creatures, they needed to breathe, so he tried checking Rose’s breath.

Thankfully, it was still there.

"Betty, how are you finding the human world?" Chen Ze didn’t know what else to do, so he simply started chatting with Betty.

"With Lord Riesel’s protection, I am doing very well." Betty was content. Compared to her past life, her current one was like heaven, especially since Chen Ze was paying her a salary.

"Riesel? The ancient Golden Dragon?" Rose unexpectedly opened her eyes and asked in surprise.

"You know him?" Chen Ze was a bit surprised; could it be that real life was actually just a small world?

"I’ve heard of him..." Rose spoke weakly, but she had indeed come back to life.

"This is your dessert, mango mousse." Chen Ze went back to the kitchen and brought the mango mousse over.

"Thank you." Rose nodded her head and started eating it with a fork.

The sour and sweet taste suited her palate, and it was a dish she had never tried before. However, due to the pain from her injuries, she couldn’t fully enjoy the dessert.

But as the sugar entered her system, Rose felt a bit stronger and her wound stopped bleeding, which provided her with much relief.

Bearing the pain, Rose began chanting a spell and used dark magic to heal her wounds.

Chen Ze brought out the brown sugar eggs from the kitchen and placed them on the table.

"What is this?" Rose asked, puzzled.

In front of her was a dish of oddly colored mixture, with an ingredient she had never seen before.

Rose sniffed it; there was a faint sweet aroma in the air, nothing that seemed suspicious.

"Brown sugar eggs, they’ll help you recover," Chen Ze replied quickly.
