Chapter 597: Chapter 457 About the Matter of Marriage

"The manager’s cooking skills are getting better and better," Stan remarked with great satisfaction. The Buffet dish was incredibly enjoyable, truly Buffet’s flavor, yet the taste felt entirely different, with even a unique hint that Stan found gratifying.

"Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Stan," Chen Ze said with a smile while sitting across from Stan, then propped his chin on his hands and fell into deep thought, pondering over what he had just heard.

Lafra wants to marry him?

This news left Chen Ze a bit bewildered. To be honest, while he seemed to have proposed to Lafra while drunk, he had absolutely no memory of it, which was quite embarrassing. Chen Ze didn’t know what he had said to Lafra, but clearly, he had skipped the marriage proposal phase and had gone straight into wedding planning.

"So... should I go get a marriage certificate with Lafra?" Chen Ze was a bit torn. He wasn’t sure what to do next. After all, this was his first marriage proposal, and Lafra was no ordinary girl.

If it were an ordinary girl, Chen Ze could just go through the motions, find a wedding planning company, have them organize a wedding, and then simply follow the steps.

Moreover, with his restaurant, Chen Ze could now afford a house and a car in full payment and could even provide a decent dowry when facing his future mother-in-law, thanks to the decent life the restaurant had provided him.

He could rent out a cinema for the proposal, or even simpler, light some candles downstairs in his apartment building and propose, then, amid the onlookers’ cheers, win his bride.

But with Lafra, things weren’t so simple. He couldn’t possibly go to a negative plane, kneel on one knee, and propose at the Dark Council’s door, could he?

"It seems the manager is quite troubled," Moriarty glanced at Chen Ze, seldom having seen him furrow his brow like this.

"I am a bit, I’m contemplating a significant life decision," Chen Ze said, pinching the bridge of his nose, looking rather vexed.

"Is it about marriage?" Moriarty came over and brought his teapot with him.

Stan also looked up, and though he did not speak, his eyes conveyed a great interest in the matter.

"Uh..." For some reason, Chen Ze felt like he was being watched as if part of a show.

"Indeed, it is." Nevertheless, Chen Ze decided to share his troubles. Perhaps these guys could offer some advice?

"Marriage is no small matter. If manager has decided, I think it would be good to plan a proposal ceremony first. The proposal is very important," Moriarty suggested as he poured himself a cup of tea, then took two more cups and poured one for Chen Ze and one for Stan.

"Yeah, Lafra is a good kid, though her temperament is a bit rough," Stan nodded earnestly. Having known Lafra for many years and having campaigned with her for the Dark Council, they were close in strength. Only, Lafra had become much lazier later on, or Stan wouldn’t have been able to best her by a small margin.

"To me, marriage feels like waking up in the morning, seeing her, and feeling completely at peace," Moriarty said leisurely as he sipped his tea.

"Is that so?" the corner of Chen Ze’s mouth twitched.

Chen Ze couldn’t help but think that, odd as Moriarty’s words were, they made sense, specifically regarding the proposal. Even though Lafra had said he had already proposed, because Chen Ze had no memory of it, he had to genuinely propose once more, no matter the reason.

"I’ve never been married, so I can’t offer any advice," Stan said as he picked up his teacup, took a sip, frowned slightly, and then set it back down.

"Here, for the congratulations and the meal." Stan pulled out two things from his pocket and placed them on the table.

Chen Ze, curious, picked them up for a look. The first was a very pretty gemstone, rainbow-colored and warm to the touch. Chen Ze felt as though the gemstone was glowing.

The other was a Moonlight Mushroom, which Chen Ze recognized at a glance, though this one was larger and more beautiful than usual.

"Thank you, Mr. Stan," Chen Ze said, accepting the gifts with satisfaction. He didn’t really need anything else, but he appreciated the thoughtfulness behind Stan’s gesture.

"Mm, I’m off," Stan nodded, then picked up his teacup, drained it in one gulp, and walked out the door. freewebnøvel.coɱ

"Mr. Stan is quite the character. It’s clear he doesn’t like this tea, but he drank it all anyway," Moriarty chuckled, pouring another cup of tea for Chen Ze.

"That’s just the way Mr. Stan is. He doesn’t say much, but he’s a good person," Chen Ze nodded, though he recalled that Stan was the kind of principled good person, not one who is unconditionally good.

"Even the boss is getting married," Betty chimed in quietly, startling Chen Ze enough that he nearly spilled his tea.

"What’s the matter? Is it so strange that I’m getting married?" Chen Ze looked at Betty with a blank expression, feeling like she was mocking him. Was it just his imagination?

"No, I just think Lady Lafra is incredible to accept someone like you, such a rigid straight man," Betty clicked her tongue, thinking she would have been infuriated many times over in Lafra’s place.

"...I suddenly remembered that there’s a delicious dish in Iceland. I’ll make it for lunch later," Chen Ze said with a smile as he stood and headed to the kitchen.

"No, boss! Have mercy!" Betty immediately wailed as she dashed into the kitchen after him.

"Iceland?" Moriarty touched his cane and then laughed, shaking his head.

Chen Ze had once deliberately researched the world’s most infamous dark cuisines, and wherever he looked, he saw Iceland’s shark meat, which had aroused his interest at the time.

According to the web, Iceland’s shark meat is buried in the ground for fermentation, then dug out, peeled, and eaten. According to local customs, it indeed seems to be a delicacy.

But, as they say, one man’s poison is another man’s honey. To Icelanders, shark meat is a sublime delicacy, while others find it unbearably stinky and impossible to swallow.

"Boss!" Betty said as she followed him into the kitchen, Chen Ze smiled back at her.

"Don’t worry, I didn’t buy any shark meat, and besides, that kind of thing is really hard to come by," Chen Ze shook his head.
