Chapter 580: Chapter Four Hundred and Forty: The Game Begins
"What do you guys think?" Chen Ze looked at the big shots and asked.
Standing to the side, Betty had already put on the Iron Man helmet. It was just a peripheral, but Chen Ze had to admit that the few thousand bucks he’d spent on this were well worth it—at the very least, once she put it on, you couldn’t see the eyes, let alone the expression, just Iron Man’s face.
"It’s fine, we’re free anyway, might as well have a go." Moriarty nodded, now with this helmet, it would be very difficult to find any flaws in Betty’s expression—practically impossible, even.
One could also look for clues in body language, but body language is inherently difficult to verify. Like when someone might scratch their belly because it itches, if you based your judgment on that and decided there was a problem with the speaker, you could easily be mistaken.
"I think it’s okay," Holmes and Conan also nodded. As long as there were no human cheats involved, the werewolf game could be quite interesting.
"Hehehe, I have no objections—what are we waiting for? Let’s get started and kick off the game, hahahaha~" Joker laughed maniacally, tears almost spilling out. Chen Ze could feel his excitement.
Joker was a super villain, a cerebral one at that. Out of all the adversaries The Boss had faced, if he had to pick the one that gave him the most headaches, it would no doubt be this bizarrely smiling Joker.
Chen Ze even felt that in "Batman: The Dark Knight," Joker’s defeat was solely because the screenwriters needed to get past censorship and incidentally showcase the greatness of humanity. Otherwise, the ships would’ve been blown to bits; in such a scenario, it would’ve taken just one impulsive person to press the remote, and all would’ve been over.
"I don’t have any objections either. In fact, the little girl has proven to play quite well." Zhu Guangming nodded. Initially, he had thought Ronna might be a liability, but surprisingly, the little white rabbit’s first statement was spot on. If not for Betty’s eye-catching gaze and expressions, the game might have gone on for much longer.
"Alright, then I’m taking the hourglass down. Everyone gets to speak for only two minutes each turn, and no speaking after time’s up. Aside from the first night where you can give a last word, no last words at other times. Play on," Chen Ze nodded, then placed an hourglass on the table which he had just gone up to find. Watching a clock could introduce some problems, so in this case, using an hourglass was the best choice.
"Hurry up, quick!" Joker shook with excitement, eager to see what kind of strategies these great detectives and the other villain would choose.
"Okay, everyone please draw your identity cards at random." Betty pulled out a card randomly from the mix of the Witch and Guardian cards and shuffled them with the others.
"Oh my God..." Zhu Guangming covered his eyes.
"Miss Betty, you better shuffle again, we can already tell who’s the werewolf the way you’re doing it," Moriarty said somewhat helplessly. Though Betty shuffled quickly, it was no trouble for them to remember the werewolf card she had just thrown in.
"Eh? Okay." Betty nodded, then went purposefully into the storeroom, shuffled the cards thoroughly, and brought them back out.
Chen Ze stroked his chin, pondering over the issue of cooking in the kitchen. It was a vexing problem; Joker, Conan, and Zhu Guangming hadn’t ordered yet, so now Chen Ze could only make them some dishes he recommended.
As for Ronna, that was an easier problem to solve. After all, Ronna was mostly satisfied with a pizza. Chen Ze could make her a Transcendent curry pork chop rice to go with it.
"But I wonder how they’re doing with the game." Chen Ze peered out to see. In the dining room, Betty was just about to start speaking.
Chen Ze felt an itch in his heart; he was so tempted to grab a stool and go watch and see what kind of situation this werewolf game was in.
Once Betty came out, it would be time for everyone to pick their cards, but before that, Betty needed to announce the roles for this game, mainly the special roles.
"So, the roles for this round are..." Betty looked down since she had randomly pulled a divine card from the mix of Guardian and Witch, she had to announce this identity so that everyone knew what the situation was.
"Miss Betty, I have a suggestion~" Joker raised his head, looking at Betty with an ecstatic expression.
"You don’t have to announce it, for this game~ let’s play without knowing if it’s the Witch or the Guardian~" Joker’s smile was chilling, and at this point, they hadn’t even started drawing cards yet, and everyone else looked at him, slightly surprised by his suggestion.
"This is..." Betty was visibly uneasy, Chen Ze had not told her how to handle this—to her knowledge, in a werewolf game, wasn’t it supposed to be clear who everyone was?
"I have no objections, it would actually add to the difficulty of the game," Holmes nodded. The suggestion was excellent, even though the Guardian and Witch were special roles, uncertainty about their identities would make the game more challenging for both the werewolf and the villagers.
"I also have no objections." Moriarty shrugged nonchalantly. It was just a game, after all. However, this would be a serious test for his disciple, and he hoped she would draw an appropriate card. If Ronna got the werewolf card, the game would be tough to play.
"Hmm." Conan and Zhu Guangming also agreed to Joker’s proposal. After all, knowing that the Prophet was definitely in play, figuring out if it was the Witch or Guardian next would be intriguing; it would often be clear based on whether two people died at night. But the initial uncertainty would increase the fun of the game for them—people who enjoyed intellectual challenges.
Seeing her teacher agree, Ronna also bashfully nodded. She would do her best in this test, as, according to her teacher, playing this game would enable her to learn a lot. freewebnσvel.cøm
"Fine then, you all draw your cards first." Betty, seeing everyone in agreement, also had to consent to Joker’s way of playing.
"Then I’ll pick this one~" Joker was the first to draw a card.
Then, one by one, the others selected all the cards until none were left, and Betty took a deep breath, ready to start the game.
