Chapter 567: Chapter 427: Fairy Chang’e’s Mooncake
"Welcome to the Dream Restaurant~ honored guest~" Betty immediately greeted and looked at the guest before her with a beaming smile.
"Dream Restaurant? What kind of strange place is this? And why are you, a woman, dressed so..." The man opposite her was staring at Betty in surprise, apparently finding it quite odd that she was dressed the way she was.
"Could you be a demon?" The man then noticed Betty’s wings.
"I am a succubus, dear customer. May I ask what you would like to eat here?" Betty’s heart remained unchanged; in fact, having worked at Chen Ze’s for a while, she had grown accustomed to the surprise many guests showed upon seeing her.
However, the reaction of the guest before her seemed especially strong.
"Succubus... demons and monsters..." The man’s reaction grew even more intense, and the next moment, he promptly shut the door and ran out.
"...Am I that scary?" Betty touched her face in bewilderment, feeling oddly hurt inside.
"What happened?" Chen Ze poked his head out and asked; he had heard the guest’s voice but hadn’t seen him.
"That guest just ran away." Betty shook her head and then went to refill Professor Moriarty’s teapot.
"I see..." Chen Ze nodded, not taking much notice since it was not his job to keep the guests from running away, nor did he make a special effort to make them stay.
"Just wondering what kind of guest it was." Chen Ze still felt a tiny bit of regret; he thought whenever a new guest arrived, it was like opening a surprise egg, never knowing what might come out.
"Darling, take a look, what do you think of this glass of wine?" Then Lafra called Chen Ze over, holding a glass of pale red wine that looked quite appealing.
"What kind of wine is this?" Chen Ze asked curiously.
"Hehe, this is an Enofras’s Flame that I mixed according to the cocktail book Stan gave me." Lafra almost put her hands on her hips, proudly ready for a moment’s triumph. freēwēbnovel.com
"Okay, I’ll have a taste." Hearing that the wine was mixed according to the book Stan had given, Chen Ze felt much more at ease; as long as it wasn’t something concocted by Lafra herself, he believed he wouldn’t end up dead drunk after drinking it.
Chen Ze took the wine from Lafra and slowly sipped; he had thought that this pale red wine would taste similar to grape wines, but after drinking it, he found that it leaned more toward the flavor of hard liquor.
If he had to describe it, it was like brandy with some lemonade and a squeeze of orange added—overall, the flavor was quite good. Most importantly, Chen Ze didn’t feel any hint of intoxication after drinking, which pleased him greatly.
"How does it feel?" Lafra clasped her hands together, looking at Chen Ze with a touch of nervousness.
"Very good, it’s fantastic. My dear really has a knack for mixing drinks." Chen Ze nodded in approval. The wine met his expectations and was overall very palatable, which surprised and delighted him, happy for Lafra’s attention to detail.
"Phew, that’s a relief~," Lafra finally patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Pizza." As Chen Ze was contemplating whether to give Lafra a big hug, a plate was placed aside by his clone.
Looking at his clone holding a torch and smiling at him, Chen Ze’s mouth twitched—it seemed that his shadow clone wasn’t without flaws, especially considering the current situation wasn’t very friendly.
"Okay, thank you. By the way, could you chop the vegetables? You know, all these things need to be taken care of," Chen Ze said awkwardly, nodding his head, and then he gave up on the idea of hugging Lafra.
"Honored One, sorry to interrupt...um, is it some kind of festival today?" Just as Chen Ze was about to continue with his preparations, he heard Xie BiAn’s voice.
"Oh, Black and White Impermanence, please find a place to sit for a while... Right, happy Mid-Autumn Festival, here are some mooncakes," Chen Ze said, coming out of the kitchen. Normally, such tasks wouldn’t be Chen Ze’s responsibility, but since Black and White Impermanence were regulars, Chen Ze decided to serve them himself.
"Mid-Autumn Festival? I see," Xie BiAn nodded, still wondering why there were so many customers in the restaurant today, including some with very strong life forces.
"Mooncake." Fan Wujiu pulled out a mooncake from his bosom and handed it to Chen Ze.
Unlike Chen Ze’s exquisitely packaged mooncakes, this one looked very... simplistic.
This mooncake was about the size of Chen Ze’s palm and was wrapped in plain white paper. It had a decent heft to it, but Chen Ze didn’t understand why Fan Wujiu would give him a mooncake. Could it be the legendary return gift?
"Honored One, this was a comfort gift from Fairy Chang’e to us Underworld Civil Servants during last year’s Mid-Autumn Festival party at the Heavenly Court. Although it’s not much, it is the best return gift we brothers can offer," Xie BiAn said, looking somewhat embarrassed.
Chen Ze’s mouth twitched. Xie BiAn’s words were not very long, but the amount of information contained was quite substantial. Nonetheless, Chen Ze was interested in the mooncake personally made by Fairy Chang’e, curious about what ingredients she might have used.
"Alright, thank you. If you don’t mind, would you like to join the Mid-Autumn Festival banquet?" Chen Ze asked Xie BiAn and Fan Wujiu.
"I’d be honored to accept the invitation," Xie BiAn said with a smile, bowing his hands in greeting, and then he and Fan Wujiu took their seats. frёewebnoѵēl.com
Chen Ze returned to the restaurant, feeling delighted. The banquet was now even livelier. The only question was whether other guests might show up. It would be great if Monkey could come at this time, but Chen Ze knew that was unlikely.
"Lafra, come and try the mooncake," Chen Ze said as he placed Fairy Chang’e’s mooncake on the counter and called Lafra over. He had never really had this mooncake before, so he was quite curious.
"A mooncake?" Lafra, of course, heard Chen Ze’s conversation with Xie BiAn, so she was quite curious as well.
After unwrapping the white paper, Chen Ze saw a moon. While it might sound odd to put it that way, to Chen Ze, describing what he saw as a moon was really the only way.
But...
