Chapter 526: Chapter 386: Pasta
Spaghetti, Chen Ze was naturally familiar with it since this dish also enjoys some popularity in Huaxia, often seeming to be on par with pizza.
The reason it is referred to as a cuisine is because there are many ways to prepare spaghetti. Even though it essentially comes down to different ingredients, the names also vary.
"I’ll make some tomato beef sauce spaghetti, after all, it’s quite simple to prepare," Chen Ze stretched his neck, having already decided what to make.
The method of making spaghetti is actually very simple and for a chef like Chen Ze, it wasn’t difficult at all, so he finished it in no time and then took out the beef, ready to start cooking the steak.
After finishing all of Moriarty’s dishes, Chen Ze glanced at his phone; it was already ten o’clock, but Betty still hadn’t arrived, which furrowed his brow. He didn’t think Betty would run away as it was completely unnecessary, but it didn’t seem like she was sick either. If Betty had been ill, she would have definitely come in and asked Lafra to nurse her back to health.
So the question arose, what exactly was the Succubus up to? Why hadn’t she arrived yet?
Chen Ze shook his head, deciding that if Betty still hadn’t shown up by noon when Lafra came down, he’d ask Lafra to check on her.
"Professor Moriarty, sorry to keep you waiting," Chen Ze said, carrying the plate out and placing the steak and spaghetti on the table.
Moriarty put down the newspaper he was holding and nodded with a smile, but Chen Ze noticed that on the newspaper Moriarty was reading, there was a photograph.
Having a photograph wasn’t strange since in Moriarty’s era in London, cameras weren’t a novelty. The difference was that this photograph displayed a corpse, and the manner of death was very familiar; Chen Ze felt he had seen it somewhere before.
"Manager, are you interested in this?" Moriarty looked at Chen Ze and then back at his newspaper.
"Somewhat," Chen Ze nodded. He was indeed a bit interested, but reading English was somewhat troublesome for him.
"This is the work of Jack the Ripper; that guy has lost control," Moriarty said with a laugh, tapping his tobacco pipe carelessly.
Moriarty tapped the ash into a bag he carried with him since Chen Ze’s restaurant didn’t provide ashtrays.
"Jack the Ripper?" Chen Ze paused in thought and then chuckled as he walked back into the kitchen. With this character around, surely Holmes wouldn’t be too bored, right?
Picking up the knife and fork, Moriarty began cutting the steak and after tasting it, nodded in satisfaction. The steak was tender and flavorful, which Moriarty really liked.
Chen Ze brewed a pot of tea using the leaves provided by Moriarty. The fragrance was quite pleasant and even made Chen Ze, who didn’t usually drink tea, slightly tempted.
When Chen Ze came out, Moriarty had already finished the steak and spaghetti and was leisurely sipping tea while reading his newspaper. Chen Ze couldn’t understand why Moriarty enjoyed reading newspapers so much, considering there were just a few pages.
Then, Chen Ze suddenly thought of one of his own hobbies, which he might suggest to Moriarty. However, he wondered if Moriarty would like that kind of work.
Chen Ze placed the teapot on the table, then proceeded to clear up the tableware before taking out his phone, checking it, and sighing in relief.
Although the internet was out, Chen Ze had paid for quite a few novels before, so he could still read offline on his phone.
"Let me see... what should I show Moriarty?" Chen Ze looked at his bookshelf, lost in thought, then hesitated for a moment before finally opening a classic old book.
"Professor Moriarty, would you like to check this out?" Chen Ze walked over smiling, laughing like crazy inside. Huaxia’s web novels had completed a cultural output, and many foreigners liked to read them; he just wondered if Moriarty would be able to read them.
"This... this is Chinese characters, right? The magical script from the East, but... there are some characters I don’t recognize, so let’s forget it." Moriarty shook his head. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
It was then that Chen Ze realized he had forgotten a problem; Moriarty seemed not to recognize simplified characters. It looked like Chen Ze would need to look for an English novel website next time before he could recommend a web novel to Moriarty.
"I think you would absolutely love it, even though after reading too many of one kind, it might get a bit tedious." Chen Ze poured himself a cup of tea, took a sip, and found that it actually tasted quite good.
"Oh? Why’s that?" Moriarty also poured himself a cup. He had set aside the newspaper, as it seemed impolite to read the paper while talking to someone.
"Because, you see, some novels have a consistent plot device where the protagonist maxes out in one place, then moves to a new map and starts leveling up from scratch, in an infinite loop." Chen Ze chuckled. Those kinds of novels were pretty good at the beginning, but not so much later on.
"I’ll take a look at it sometime." Moriarty nodded, and then started chatting with Chen Ze.
Chen Ze was surprised to find that Moriarty seemed to have delved into cooking, discussing various cooking techniques convincingly and even debating over what sugar would be best in a cup of coffee.
"Uncle... have you seen my father?" The door opened, and the sound of wind chimes interrupted Chen Ze’s conversation with Moriarty.
Chen Ze turned at the sound and then saw a little girl in a white dress, looking at him nervously, and she was holding the door frame as if ready to make a quick getaway at any sign of trouble.
"Your father? What’s his name? Do you have a photo of him?" Chen Ze’s first reaction was to think some irresponsible man had come to his restaurant to eat and been discovered by his illegitimate daughter who had then followed him.
Chen Ze glanced at Moriarty subconsciously; he was certain he didn’t have children, so could it be that the girl was Moriarty’s?
"It’s not mine, and this child was also here yesterday," Moriarty said leisurely as he sipped his tea, glancing at the girl.
"My father... my father’s name is Lin Ye, I don’t have a picture of him..." the girl said warily.
"Lin Ye... I haven’t heard that name. Did you come here yesterday?" Chen Ze asked again, but he didn’t approach her, afraid that if he did, she might run away at once.
"No... It’s my first time coming here..." The girl glanced at Moriarty and shrank back a little.
Chen Ze sensed the surroundings with the Magic Circle, then froze.
