Chapter 506: Chapter 366: Improved Chive Box
Eggs—a rather commonly used ingredient, virtually every country has dishes that involve eggs, not to mention Huaxia Cuisine.
Of the many I know, there are no fewer than ten kinds, and among the vast array of Huaxia dishes, these only amount to a drop in the ocean.
"But this thing is a Dragon Egg..." Chen Ze was a bit conflicted, as this wasn’t something like a chicken or duck egg that he could use without hesitation. This Dragon Egg was the only one Chen Ze currently had access to, so naturally, he needed to be more cautious in cooking it.
"Let’s preserve it for now and look for a recipe before cooking," Chen Ze thought for a moment and decided to store the Dragon Egg using the warehouse stone. As for when to cook it, he would have to wait until he found a suitable recipe he was happy with.
"Boss, your Spatial Artifact is really sophisticated," Sebastian commented, watching the whole time until Chen Ze stowed the egg away before he expressed his amazement.
"It’s alright. What would you like to eat?" Chen Ze smiled and then turned to Sebastian and Dragone.
"I’ll take ten servings of light cheesecake, twenty servings of grilled meat, plus five glasses of Lai Mei. Just add one more of whatever else you’re serving," Sebastian licked his lips. He found that he could never get enough of the light cheesecake, though he didn’t know why.
"I... I’ll have a portion of Arctic Chestnut Rice and then add a Leek Box, finish with some Dumplings and a glass of Lai Mei," Dragone hesitated for a moment but quickly ordered what he wanted.
"Alright, just a moment," Chen Ze nodded. Betty had already gone to the kitchen to pour the drinks; they should be ready soon.
"However, it’s been a long time since I last made Leek Boxes," Chen Ze twisted his neck. It had indeed been a long time since he made them, even though the dish was always on the menu.
"Let’s make some improvements. Let me think..." Chen Ze pondered. He knew the basic method for making Leek Boxes, but how to improve them was the question.
"First off... it’s easy to bite into a Leek Box and have all the juice spill out, which isn’t great... Maybe the dough could absorb the soup..." Chen Ze took out a small notebook and began jotting down his ideas.
This was something Chen Ze had learned from Joichiro Yukihira; chefs often have eureka moments, and it’s useful to write these ideas down in a notebook, making it easier to refine ideas or innovate.
"As for the meat... diced meat has a much better texture than minced meat. Let’s use Billy Beef... but this would make the Leek Boxes taste too strong," Chen Ze frowned.
The flavor of Leek Boxes is generally quite strong, especially for office workers who eat them in the morning on buses or subways, attracting disapproving glances from others due to the strong smell.
Although this wasn’t an issue in Chen Ze’s restaurant, a chef should always try to address these problems and allow customers to fully enjoy their food.
"Should I try Void Ginseng?" Chen Ze thought of the expensive ingredient that could so far only be used as chewing gum.
Yet Chen Ze was somewhat worried, considering the last time he used Void Ginseng to make Void Ginseng Dragon Worm Soup, it had knocked Betty out.
Still, Chen Ze decided to give it a try. If he didn’t, he would never know whether Void Ginseng was suitable or not.
Out of the principle of not putting all eggs in one basket, Chen Ze made only ten Leek Boxes with Void Ginseng, adding different amounts to each to make them easier to distinguish, using special plating techniques.
"Quadruple Speed then," Chen Ze moved over the stone slab and began to prepare what Sebastian had ordered.
Before long, Chen Ze had prepared the dishes for Dragone and the items Sebastian wanted, and he casually took out the chive pockets as well.
[You made ten exquisite chive pockets, gaining 10 points of experience in home cooking.]
Chen Ze sighed in frustration. It seemed that just adding Bill’s beef was not enough; the dish had not been successfully improved.
Then, Chen Ze opened another lid.
[You made a lousy...]
[You made a passable...]
[You made a perfect improved chive pocket, gaining 5 points of experience in otherworldly cuisine.]
"Damn it..." Chen Ze clutched his nose in pain, as ten system notifications popped up at once, making him feel like he might get a nosebleed.
However, Chen Ze was still in good spirits. Although the flood of notifications could make someone with trypophobia shudder, Chen Ze saw the most important one at the top. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"Perfect? Not bad at all, it seems that Void Ginseng goes well with chive pockets. But who would’ve thought such a high-end ingredient would match so perfectly with the cheapest vegetable?" Chen Ze couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time. In his mind, premium ingredients should be paired with luxurious dishes, yet here was one that matched perfectly with the very humble chive pockets.
"According to the hint... it should be this one." Chen Ze looked towards the chive pocket closest to the lid. The notifications appeared based on the order the items were revealed, so the last one that came out was naturally the perfect chive pocket.
Chen Ze picked up this chive pocket, remembering that he had added two grams of Void Ginseng to it. It seemed that two grams was the ideal amount.
"Make five more, and I can take them to Dragone. In the future, I could replace the regular chive pockets with the improved version or even add an original version." Chen Ze picked up a towel to wipe his hands, and while he was at it, he flipped the meat on the grill.
As for the perfect chive pocket, Chen Ze didn’t plan to touch it just yet. As for the lousy ones, although it was a pity, he could only dispose of them. The ordinary ones, Chen Ze decided to save for Betty, to snack on.
"The flavor’s pretty good with these chive pockets," Sebastian said, smelling them with a look of longing on his face, after Betty had served Dragone’s order of chive pockets.
"Don’t even think about it. If you want some, go ask the boss yourself," Dragone glared at him, protectively pulling his own chive pockets closer.
Then, Dragone eagerly picked up a chive pocket and stuffed it into his mouth, chewing a couple of times.
A fragrant scent burst forth instantly, followed by an unbelievably refreshing sensation so strong it made Dragone feel as though he just stepped out of a cold shower on a sweaty day.
"Delicious!" Dragone was extremely satisfied. The taste of this chive pocket was no joke. It was not just the cool sensation, but also the accompanying rich meaty aroma and the varied texture of the meaty bits. Each bite gave Dragone the irresistible urge to wag his tail in delight.
Chen Ze smiled. It looked like he was well on his way to becoming the Medicine King, never to return.
