Chapter 46: Chapter Forty-Six: Twenty-Four Destiny Stars
"What is this?!" Lafra covered her mouth, she had never eaten such a unique dish before.
As the soft, white tofu entered her mouth, it brought with it a flavor so rich that it seemed to add a tiny flame inside, scorching her.
And there was an ingredient she had never eaten before, its distinctive flavor reminding Lafra of the sensation of eating lightning, leaving her mouth tingling.
"Dear guest... this is Mapo Tofu, the manager’s recommended dish for today," Betty explained tenderly, while placing a glass of iced water next to Lafra.
"Mapo Tofu? I’ve never had such... such unique... such stimulating cuisine," Lafra said as she took out a handkerchief from her pocket and wiped her mouth, feeling it go numb.
Hiding in the kitchen and peeping, Chen Ze glanced at Lafra’s handkerchief. It was indeed blood-red, completely in line with this particular guest’s preference.
Chen Ze stroked his chin, feeling he might have figured out the special effect of the parfait from before.
Sensitivity, probably it was about developing the taste buds to the extreme, making the diner even more sensitive to flavors thereafter.
Didn’t you see Lafra wiping her mouth as she ate? Chen Ze had used a normal amount of spices, and he had even tried some of the remaining Mapo Tofu in the pot. Although delicious and spicy, it wasn’t to that extent.
So either it was as Chen Ze guessed, sensitivity meant developing the taste buds to the utmost, or this lover of blood-red had a serious lack of resistance to spicy food.
Lafra no longer wanted to speak, she was rapidly scooping up the Mapo Tofu, combining it with the unique white rice and bringing it to her mouth.
She thought this dish was as enticing as the most delicious blood, though it felt as if her mouth was on fire, or struck by lightning while eating, the more she ate, the tastier it became, and the more she wanted.
Watching Lafra quickly eating with her head down, Chen Ze smiled contentedly. He loved seeing his guests immersed in the food, feeling a special sense of achievement.
As Chen Ze turned to continue working on his sauce, he noticed that a blood-red liquid had fallen from Lafra’s forehead.
"Hmm? Huh???" Chen Ze looked puzzled. He racked his brain to make sure he hadn’t added anything to the Mapo Tofu that could be a threat.
"I didn’t put garlic in it..." Although Chen Ze really wanted to test if garlic had any effect on vampires, he decided against it, considering that he was a chef, not a daredevil.
Seeing Betty’s calm face, Chen Ze couldn’t help but beckon her over. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"Manager? Is there something wrong?" Betty asked, somewhat curiously.
"Why is Lafra bleeding?" Chen Ze brought up his concern directly.
"Pfft..." Betty couldn’t help but chuckle, but seeing Chen Ze’s dangerous look, she quickly stifled it.
"That’s not blood. Powerful vampires sweat like that," Betty recalled the heritage of her people.
"If you come across a Blood Clan member bleeding without cause, you should run immediately, as they are generally unbeatable. If you encounter a Blood Ancestor... heh, let’s skip that topic," Betty said, her mood dropping at the thought of that teaching instructor.
She still preferred to be with her own people, but she had been abandoned.
Chen Ze didn’t notice the change in Betty’s expression; he simply took out a notebook and jotted down the incident, feeling like he had just gotten some bragging rights for future drinking sessions.
"Do you guys know what color vampire sweat is? You don’t know, do you? I’ll tell you, vampire sweat is blood-red too."
"Hey? You don’t believe it? I really have seen one."
Chen Ze couldn’t bring himself to say that; after all, such a statement would make people think he was either drunk and acting crazy or simply ill—no one would actually believe that Chen Ze had seen a vampire.
"Manager, what are you doing?" Betty curiously looked behind Chen Ze at the large basin placed there.
Chen Ze shook his head, casting aside those unrealistic thoughts, and turned back, "Oh, that? That’s the sauce I’m preparing."
After all, he had to sell three big buckets of tentacles tomorrow, and he definitely needed to have enough sauce prepared.
"It’s red and runny; do customers really like to eat that?" Betty looked disgusted.
Chen Ze rolled his eyes; he was worried there wouldn’t be enough to sell tomorrow.
"Manager, the check, please." Lafra wiped her mouth, looking very satisfied with her meal.
This interrupted Chen Ze, who had been about to ask Betty to personally try the sauce; he clapped his hands together and walked over to Lafra.
"Are you satisfied with your meal?" This was the customary question Chen Ze would ask.
"It’s just so-so, not very delicious," Lafra said nonchalantly.
Looking at the empty plates, Chen Ze kept silent. He had come to realize that this vampire loli, who stood at the pinnacle of the negative plane alongside Gu Aotian, was just being tsundere.
"For this meal, let’s settle the bill with this." Lafra pulled something that looked about the size of a playing card out of her small pocket.
Chen Ze took it and glanced at it; it was a piece of paper with many strange characters written on it, as hard as a playing card, with weird symbols slowly moving on it.
"This is..." Chen Ze was unclear about what this thing was for; it seemed somewhat ominous.
"This is the Twenty-Four Destiny Stars Divination Paper. Tear it up and ask in your mind the question you want to answer, and as long as it’s not too weird, you will know the answer," Lafra explained briefly.
Chen Ze looked at the card in front of him in shock. Was this thing really that magical?
"See you next time, human." Lafra didn’t pay any more attention to Chen Ze and slowly walked out.
Chen Ze, surprised, tucked the so-called Twenty-Four Destiny Stars Divination Paper into his pocket. He wasn’t worried about being deceived by such powerful beings; if there truly was deception, he wouldn’t mind having a talk with Comrade Gu Aotian and spreading a story throughout the negative plane about the Blood Ancestor running out on a bill.
"Betty, do you know what the Twenty-Four Destiny Stars Divination is?" Chen Ze decided to ask Betty, who was busy washing the dishes and cutlery.
"Twenty-Four Destiny Stars Divination? Never heard of it." Betty shook her head; she was completely unaware of the name.
"Then are there any taboos or precautions with divination?"
"The most important thing in divination is not to ask anything beyond the diviner’s power or about the gods," Betty did know this much.
Chen Ze stroked his chin, thinking it would be a good idea to choose the right moment to use it. He had even considered asking about the restaurant itself.
But considering even Lafra couldn’t break the restaurant’s protection, asking probably exceeded his capabilities, so Chen Ze decided to abandon the idea.
