Chapter 443: Chapter Three Hundred and Three: Folk Customs

"What’s this?" Li Xu, after finishing his night shift, curiously looked at the bus stop sign before him.

There was nothing particularly interesting about the bus stop sign. Actually, if it weren’t for a piece of red paper, Li Xu wouldn’t have given it a second glance.

It was a red piece of paper similar in quality to the kind used for Spring Festival couplets, a bit coarse, and it wasn’t attached with tape but seemed to be fixed with double-sided adhesive.

"The sky so blue, the earth so green... What kind of crappy doggerel is this?" Li Xu was instantly annoyed. Although he wasn’t very literary himself, he still felt that this barely counted as doggerel.

"My little girl cries every night..." Li Xu paused, feeling that it probably wasn’t a poem. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"Passing gentlemen, please recite, ensure she sleeps until the daylight’s rise?" Li Xu was stunned; this was the first time he had come across something like this.

"Tsk, these people. When their child is sick, they don’t take them to the hospital, but believe in all this superstitious nonsense." Li Xu shook his head but recited it through in full nonetheless.

"The sky so blue, the earth so green, my little girl cries every night. Passing gentlemen, please recite, ensure she sleeps until the daylight’s rise." Li Xu chuckled and then boarded the bus he had been waiting for. He planned to go home and rest properly; working the night shift was truly exhausting.

"But this is all for a living," Li Xu yawned. He had to stay on until the last stop. Even if all the lights were green, it would take over fifty minutes, so he decided to catch some sleep on the bus.

Li Xu leaned back in his seat, head propped up to sleep. Due to his extreme tiredness, he felt drowsy even on the swaying bus.

But the very next moment, Li Xu felt a pair of terrifying eyes staring at him, prompting him to suddenly open his eyes wide, looking confusedly around.

There was nothing there, although an old man was strangely looking at him. However, Li Xu didn’t mind; there was no way he was giving up his seat as he was far too sleepy.

Soon after, Li Xu started to doze off again, but just like before, as he was about to fall asleep, he ’saw’ that pair of horrifying eyes staring intently at him.

This startled Li Xu awake once more. He raised his head to look around; it was the same old scene, with more passengers on the bus, and the old man still oddly watching him.

"Sorry, old timer, I worked the night shift; I’m really tired," Li Xu said with a smile, trying to explain. Otherwise, who knows what would happen if someone took his photo and posted it online.

"No worries, young man. I’m just... It’s my first time seeing someone sleeping with their eyes open." The old man didn’t mind and was quite chatty, but his words confused Li Xu.

Sleeping with eyes open—of course, he knew about that; anyone who has read ’The Romance of the Three Kingdoms’ would know that Zhang Fei was someone who slept with his eyes open.

But what puzzled Li Xu was that he didn’t usually sleep with his eyes open... Why did this happen?

Li Xu shook his head, thinking the old man must have been mistaken.

But until he returned to his rented room, Li Xu couldn’t fall asleep. As soon as he felt the slightest drowsiness, he would see those frightening eyes staring at him relentlessly.

"This is really like seeing a ghost, what on earth is happening?" Li Xu was in agony, sleepiness continuously tormenting his brain, but he just couldn’t fall asleep, which was very distressing.

Li Xu lay on his bed, familiar hard wooden boards below, a familiar pillow, familiar covers, and he closed his eyes quickly; he was just too exhausted, and his brain desperately needed rest.

Li Xu closed his eyes, and in a blur, he saw those eyes again. Only this time, there was another pair. The two pairs of eyes just stared at him continuously. Li Xu could even see one eye bleeding, with crimson blood flowing from below it, slowly dripping onto the ground.

"Ah!!" Li Xu bolted upright, gripped by an intense fear that seized his heart, and any trace of sleepiness instantly vanished.

"What’s happening... What’s wrong with me..." Li Xu covered his head in pain.

He thought about the poem he saw at the bus station that morning, the one he considered to be of twisted and evil nature.

"Could it be that poem?" Li Xu began to doubt his life choices, but he still decided to go to the hospital to have a look.

As he walked on the road, the drowsiness didn’t come back, but Li Xu’s mood was very irritable. Honestly, he did not want to go to the hospital.

As everyone knows, hospitals are places where they charge you a lot of money, which is why many people, as long as it’s not a serious illness, are reluctant to go and prefer to self-medicate.

"Not sure if my savings of a few thousand will be enough..." Li Xu scratched his head and then saw a wooden door in a small alley.

If it weren’t for Li Xu’s sharp eyes, he probably wouldn’t have found this door.

"I remember this being a dead end, right? Inside was a construction site with an unfinished building, when did a wooden door appear?" Li Xu was curious. Since he couldn’t sleep anyway, he decided to have a look inside and see what was beyond this door.

Li Xu walked over and pushed the door open. The first thing he heard was the sound of a wind chime, then he saw a restaurant and a waitress in fallen angel cosplay coming over with a sweet smile.

"Welcome to the Dream Restaurant, dear...two guests, what would you like to eat?" the waitress spoke up, but her words puzzled Li Xu. He was sure he had come in alone.

Li Xu turned back and then saw behind him a grey figure without any clothes, but with two pairs of eyes, eyes that were very familiar, watching him intently.

"Goodness, Buddha, Amen!" Shocked, Li Xu blurted out a string of words and even jumped back a step. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"What’s wrong, guest?" Betty didn’t care at all. It’s just a grey figure, what’s so strange about that?

"This guy... I don’t know him at all! He must be a ghost!" Li Xu shouted in terror, weren’t these the terrifying eyes he would see whenever he tried to sleep?

"Quite a curiosity." Chen Ze stuck his head out and took a look. In just a short while, another pair of eyes had appeared on the grey figure.

"Boss, what should we do?" Betty was a bit troubled, this guest was hiding under the table now.

"But I don’t offer exorcism services here," Chen Ze said with a wry smile as he looked at Li Xu. It was the first time he had seen a customer wanting to order an exorcism set meal.

Although Chen Ze could use magic circles to eliminate Kayako, he could tell that this grey shadow was something like a curse as well. If eliminated, it would just regenerate when the customer went outside again.

Such a headache.
