Chapter 313: Chapter 173: Learning the Basics with Soma Yukihira
The next morning, Chen Ze slowly climbed out of bed and stretched languidly.
"It’s really cold..." Chen Ze rubbed his arms as he hugged himself. The temperature had suddenly dropped today, and it was particularly damp and chilly.
Everyone knows that when the weather is cold, people don’t really feel like getting out of their warm beds. And it’s even more evident here in the south, where there’s no heating.
Chen Ze stood up, touched the window, and felt the icy sensation. With a gust of wind blowing in, he suddenly shivered all over.
"No wonder people say that the cold in the south is like a magic attack, dressing warmly doesn’t help." Chen Ze shuddered and then added a few more layers of clothing to his body.
He then closed the window. That’s just how the cold is in the south—if you don’t shut the window, no matter how much you wear, you’ll feel the damp chill, which is particularly uncomfortable.
"Let me think, what should I make later..." Chen Ze washed up briefly, then went downstairs to open the door.
As soon as he opened the door, it was pushed open, and Chen Ze saw Soma Yukihira walking in.
"Yo, Boss, I’m here to teach you the basics." Soma Yukihira seemed especially spirited, and Chen Ze couldn’t help but pull out his phone to check the time—it was only eight o’clock.
"You get up this early?" Chen Ze couldn’t help asking. He had almost struggled to get up this morning.
"Isn’t this a chef’s daily life? At my dad’s restaurant, I go grocery shopping every morning. There’s nothing strange about that." Soma Yukihira looked puzzled, then followed Chen Ze into the kitchen.
"Well, I rarely get up early to buy groceries." Chen Ze yawned, but since otherworldly customers had come in, the entire restaurant had once again entered a dimensional state, and it wasn’t so cold anymore.
"I checked yesterday, your cooking is quite good, but your basic skills are really poor." Soma Yukihira smiled, then picked up a kitchen knife and twirled it in his hand.
"That’s true, my fundamentals aren’t good enough." Chen Ze nodded seriously. He didn’t make excuses; even though he was a cook by accident, Chen Ze was still a chef.
"Make a dish, and I’ll point out your mistakes." Soma Yukihira stood aside, watching Chen Ze.
"Okay." Chen Ze didn’t refuse. He was just thinking about what dish would be best to make.
After some hesitation, Chen Ze decided to make a Huaxia dish. After all, he was quite confident in his desserts.
He then made a portion of Mapo Tofu, but it wasn’t Magical Mapo Tofu, just ordinary Mapo Tofu.
"Speaking of which, you’re also a strange chef, aren’t you?" While pointing out some mistakes in Chen Ze’s cooking, Soma Yukihira curiously watched him.
"What about me?" Chen Ze looked at the Mapo Tofu in the pot and asked back.
"Your dishes glow. Isn’t that odd? My dad’s cooking doesn’t glow, and when I asked him, he had never seen a glowing dish either." Soma Yukihira shook his head, puzzled. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"Here, there’s a problem with the way you’re flipping the spoon, you’re not using enough force—are you afraid of flipping the tofu onto your head?" While discussing the glowing dishes, Soma Yukihira still pointed out an issue.
"Oh, I see... But I think that ’clothes bursting’ thing from your world is pretty unscientific too," Chen Ze retorted.
Food Wars had a ’clothes bursting’ gimmick, and although it later became a special ability of the female lead’s family, it still seemed far-fetched, especially the idea of using the psychic energy triggered by delicious food to achieve that effect...
So from that point on, did the world of Food Wars start heading towards superpower-level cooking?
"What are you thinking about? Quickly stir-fry, or the tofu will be overcooked." Soma Yukihira’s words snapped Chen Ze out of his daze, and he quickly got back to making the Mapo Tofu.
"You have made an exquisite Mapo Tofu, Huaxia Cuisine experience points increased by 7.5"
The System’s prompt arrived, and Chen Ze was quite satisfied with it. All he needed to do now was keep improving his culinary skills, and making a perfect dish shouldn’t be a problem, right?
"Your cooking skills are really not normal," Soma Yukihira shook his head, how did he manage to make yesterday’s glowing, exceptionally delicious Mapo Tofu with such basic skills?
"Do you want to try the dish I made?" Soma Yukihira suddenly remembered something and looked at Chen Ze with anticipation.
Chen Ze’s mouth twitched, that look on Soma Yukihira’s face...
It must be about those bizarre squid tentacle dishes he had come up with, right?
Even though Soma Yukihira’s squid tentacles had been helpful, his creations like honey squid tentacles were simply unacceptable to most.
But Chen Ze was a bit curious too, honey was sweet, so paired with squid tentacles, surely it couldn’t taste that bad?
"Forget it, I’d better make some breakfast myself," Chen Ze shook his head, trying Soma Yukihira’s dark cuisine was still a risky affair.
"Is that so, then what do you plan to make?" Soma Yukihira was a bit disappointed, then took a regular squid tentacle and began chewing it slowly.
"Thin-skinned buns." Chen Ze took out some flour and started making the thin-skinned buns he had mastered.
Soma Yukihira just watched from the side, then he saw Chen Ze adding sheep’s tail fat.
"Why are you putting that in?" Chen Ze suddenly became a bit annoyed, Soma Yukihira’s curiosity was really something else.
"Sheep’s tail fat is very savory and suits thin-skinned buns well," explained Chen Ze, after all, he had asked many questions himself recently.
"I see..."
"You have made eight exquisite thin-skinned buns, pastry production experience points increased by 56"
"Here, have one," Chen Ze offered one to Soma Yukihira.
"It’s delicious!" Soma Yukihira took a bite and fell in love with the dish.
Chen Ze remained noncommittal; as a very popular traditional delicacy, thin-skinned buns naturally had their own special appeal.
"And when you pick tofu, you should do it like this..." After finishing the buns, Soma Yukihira spent another half an hour teaching Chen Ze some methods for selecting ingredients, from which Chen Ze benefited greatly.
"I’ll come again tomorrow, if I don’t show up, it means something came up," then Chen Ze saw off Soma Yukihira.
"Phew..." Chen Ze let out a sigh of relief. Soma Yukihira took cooking very seriously.
Then Chen Ze looked in the fridge and saw some ingredients that needed to be dealt with soon.
"This thing... should be dealt with quickly today, but I wonder if there will be any customers willing to eat it..." Chen Ze hesitated a little.
After all, that taste...
