Chapter 295: Chapter 155 The Taste of Starry Sky Cake
"Panacea?" Chen Ze was a bit puzzled; the name sounded familiar, but he couldn’t quite place it.
"Yes, panacea. And not the kind whose efficacy wanes due to being copied—this one is a perfect panacea," spoke Shiratori Nozomi as she exhaled a ring of smoke, then looked pained as she glanced at the panacea on the table.
For Shiratori Nozomi, even with her status, obtaining such an item was no easy feat. It had cost her a great deal to acquire it.
"You say it’s a panacea, but what good is it?" Chen Ze picked up the red pill. It wasn’t heavy, and it didn’t look particularly magical.
Shiratori Nozomi stood and approached Chen Ze with a light chuckle, but he immediately stepped backward, dodging the smoke ring she was about to blow out.
"This, you see, is a panacea—it can cure any disease. Even if you contracted AIDS, just take this pill, and you’d be healed within two hours," Shiratori Nozomi said as she sat back down and picked up the Starry Sky Cake.
Even under the light, the Starry Sky Cake radiated a dazzling brilliance, making it look extraordinarily exquisite.
Chen Ze was stunned. He began to think, how could such a miraculous drug exist? AIDS was incurable; otherwise, it wouldn’t cause such wide-spread fear.
The most vivid memory Chen Ze had of the disease was when a colleague at his old company developed many red spots on his arm, which a Baidu search suggested might be AIDS, plunging the colleague into deep depression.
Chen Ze had advised him to face his fears and get tested at a dedicated facility.
However, the man refused. Later, Chen Ze heard that his colleague intended to get tested for AIDS by donating blood, a plan that earned him a beating from his father before he was taken to a proper facility and discovered he was not infected.
Since then, Chen Ze no longer associated with that colleague. Someone with such questionable morals was better kept at a distance.
Furthermore, Chen Ze no longer trusted the diagnoses he read on Baidu, knowing all too well the saying about wanting to write a will after a Baidu search wasn’t said in jest. ƒreewebɳovel.com
But suddenly, Chen Ze thought of something that seemed to perfectly match the miraculous effects described by Shiratori Nozomi.
The SCP Foundation, a mysterious organization forged by a multitude of science fiction enthusiasts, hosted several well-known artefacts.
For instance, SCP-173, also known as ’The Sculpture – The Original’.
Or ’The Shy Guy’, or ’The Plague Doctor’, all famous items within the Foundation, including one that perfectly matched Shiratori Nozomi’s description.
SCP-500 Panacea, a miraculous pill that could cure any disease. Even someone turned into a zombie could be healed by ingesting one; it truly was a miracle.
"It seems, Mr. Manager, you’re quite satisfied," Shiratori Nozomi kept an eye on Chen Ze’s expressions. She observed his change from disinterest to confusion and then to shock.
She realized Chen Ze probably knew what the item was, and that made things intriguing for her—her investment was sound.
"Very satisfied, then I’ll accept it," Chen Ze said as he took the panacea into the kitchen and placed it in a small bottle. This item could well be seen as a divine artifact for saving lives.
Against the panacea, all cancers were like weak little brothers, easily defeated. With this, Chen Ze no longer had to worry about his family getting sick.
Shiratori Nozomi viewed the kitchen with amusement; Chen Ze’s reaction was very interesting. Although some objects within that pretentious Foundation might hold information about other contained items, Chen Ze was... quite unique.
Shiratori Nozomi noticed something else within the kitchen, an individual with grey skin and pointed ears lying down; the details of that situation, however, were unclear.
"All right, time to enjoy my feast," Shiratori Nozomi said as she picked up a spoon and scooped up a spoonful of the Starry Sky Cake.
This thing was very soft, somewhat like a raindrop cake, but its color and those unique stars proved it was not a raindrop cake.
Betty’s mouth twitched, feeling a pang of heartache as she scooped a portion; after all, this was the Starry Sky Cake!
A flawless Starry Sky Cake was truly a starry sky, and now, it somehow didn’t seem so perfect anymore.
"Such... amazing culinary skills," Shiratori Nozomi marveled as she looked at the Starry Sky Cake in front of her, realizing only when it was close that it was even better than she had imagined.
Against the black backdrop, the stars shone even more brilliantly, making Shiratori Nozomi almost reluctant to put such beauty into her mouth.
But she ate it nonetheless.
As soon as it entered her mouth, the Starry Sky Cake completely melted away, blending into Shiratori Nozomi’s mouth. The sweet and sour taste, coupled with a cotton-candy-like texture, was unspeakably delicious.
At that moment, Shiratori Nozomi felt a sudden trance-like experience; perhaps this was what the starry sky would taste like?
Sweet but not cloying, unlike some desserts that were too sweet, unbearably so.
Consuming the Starry Sky Cake was like being a child climbing mountains, feeling utterly exhausted, then taking a sip of ice-cold saline, lying on the grass, and gazing at the myriad stars above.
Shiratori Nozomi shook her head; this cake truly tasted remarkable. She suddenly felt that even if it wasn’t for investment, trading it for the SCP-500 Panacea wasn’t a bad deal at all.
Chen Ze watched Shiratori Nozomi from the kitchen. She had just finished her first bite of the Starry Sky Cake, which made Chen Ze a bit inexplicably nervous.
After all, during her last visit, Shiratori Nozomi ate just a bite of each dish, more like a delicate lady than a delicate lady, even giving Chen Ze the impression that Lao Buddha herself was indulging in a Manchu Han Imperial Feast.
Shiratori Nozomi’s hand, holding the spoon, didn’t move, and that made Chen Ze a bit nervous, but the next second, she moved again, scooping another spoonful of the Starry Sky Cake into her mouth.
Then another spoonful, and the Starry Sky Cake gradually disappeared under Shiratori Nozomi’s actions and under Betty’s covetous gaze.
"It’s been a long time since I’ve had such a dish," Shiratori Nozomi said with satisfaction as she put the spoon down and licked her lips.
This Starry Sky Cake was the best dessert she had ever had, bar none, even tempting her to shout out for more.
"Thank you very much for your hospitality, Mr. Manager," Shiratori Nozomi said as she stood up and bowed.
"You’re welcome to come again anytime, Madam," Chen Ze replied from the kitchen, nodding his head; he wouldn’t turn away a customer who wasn’t causing trouble.
"Then, see you next time," Shiratori Nozomi waved and then pushed the door open to leave.
"Aaaah! I’m so jealous!" Betty bemoaned, biting her lip and vigorously washing the dishes.
"Don’t worry, I’ll save a piece for you," Chen Ze assured her, wiping his hands, it was about time to close up.
