Chapter 235: Chapter 95: This May Be Life
Chen Ze heaved a resigned sigh, then rubbed Ergouzi’s head, the little fellow looking up at him dumbfoundedly.
"It seems that before Lafra arrives, you can only stay here for the time being," Chen Ze took out a bowl, which was the dog food he specially made for Ergouzi.
Chen Ze used to have a dog, a Golden Retriever, very docile, just a bit too fond of eating, and after more than ten years, it died of old age. freēwēbnovel.com
After that, Chen Ze never had a dog again, but he hadn’t expected to pick up one for free now.
As for dogs, there’s not too much fuss needed, basically what people eat, you feed them the same; however, there are still some things they should not be fed.
What Chen Ze had prepared for Ergouzi this time was a simple meal of rice mixed with stir-fried Bill beef, with some green vegetables added.
"Stay put, got it?" Chen Ze patted Ergouzi’s head, and Ergouzi, who was eating with gusto, just wagged its tail in response to Chen Ze.
Chen Ze didn’t mind it; if Ergouzi truly understood and even responded, then Chen Ze would have to consider whether something had gone wrong with the restoration.
Chen Ze was somewhat concerned, knowing that Nina was still in bed, unconscious.
Chen Ze had thought about walking the dog, but then he considered that if a customer came in while he was out, that would be a disaster.
So, Chen Ze stayed in the kitchen, ending up there for over half an hour.
"Might as well walk the dog," Chen Ze shook his head and then prepared to go upstairs.
But just as he set foot on the stairs and hadn’t even gone up, he heard the jingle of the wind chime.
"Welcome to Dream Restaurant, respected guest... Eh?" Betty furrowed her brows, looking at the customer before her, feeling that the person was familiar, but she couldn’t recall who it was.
"Betty, surely you haven’t forgotten me?" an elderly voice came, prompting Chen Ze to walk into the dining area and glimpse a woman, sitting there smilingly.
Chen Ze was certain at a glance that he had never served such a guest, as he had no recollection of this woman who appeared to be in her fifties.
But for some reason, looking at her face gave him a sense of déjà vu.
"I’m sorry, but who are you, customer?" Betty asked hesitantly.
"I’m Kristin," Kristin said earnestly, looking at Betty, who was still looking bewildered, then repeated herself.
"I am Kristin Luna." Betty frowned; she felt sure she remembered the name but still couldn’t place it.
Chen Ze, catching sight of her golden eyes, instantly remembered the assassin who had almost delivered a kidney punch to Betty at the restaurant.
The customer who had come only once and then never returned.
"Betty, this is Kristin, the assassin who planned to stab you in the kidney last time," Chen Ze came out and explained, seems like Betty’s memory was almost as bad as a fish’s.
"Eh? I remember now! It’s you, how did you become like this?" Betty asked in surprise, looking at the woman before her. She remembered Kristin as a cute Lolita who was ruthless in her attack.
But what about now? Just an ordinary woman, with spots on her face, looking quite aged.
Although her hair was still black, one could now see quite a few white hairs.
"Something has happened, could you get me something to eat, Manager?" Kristin turned her head to look at Chen Ze, her aura of evening twilight growing even stronger.
"Of course." Chen Ze nodded his head, as it happened he had cooked a pot of preserved egg and lean pork congee, which was ready to serve immediately.
However, thinking of Kristin, Chen Ze decided to prepare an extra serving of Buffet, after all, Kristin seemed to really enjoy eating Buffet.
"Betty, come in and serve the dishes." Chen Ze called Betty in.
"Manager..." Betty looked very downcast.
"What’s wrong?" Chen Ze frowned at Betty, this wasn’t like Betty, could something have happened to Kristin?
"Sigh, you’ll know once you go out and see for yourself." Betty carried the dishes out, with Chen Ze following behind her.
Then Chen Ze got a bit stunned, in just that short while, Kristin’s hair had turned completely white, and the wrinkles on her face had multiplied. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"What’s this?" Chen Ze was a bit puzzled, she looked just like a woman in her sixties.
"Buffet, ah, I really miss this." Instead of answering, Kristin took the Buffet and started to eat it slowly, in small bites.
"This is the price, the price for living a normal life." Kristin slowly ate the Buffet.
Chen Ze and Betty just stood by silently listening, the matter was actually quite simple and not complex.
In order to experience a normal life for once, Kristin spent all her wealth to get treatment, which removed the aftereffects left by the Shadow Alliance.
"Back then, the Priest told me I had too many concealed injuries, that if the curse were lifted, I might not live past a year." Kristin took a slow sip of the congee, which also tasted very good.
"I think it’s great, I just wanted to live a life, to live it fully, just once." Kristin looked at the age spots on her hands; she had fulfilled her wish.
But the price was the loss of her appearance, and the acceleration of aging, Kristin could feel that her days were numbered, the Grim Reaper was drawing closer.
Kristin could even see the Grim Reaper standing outside the door, silently watching her, slowly approaching.
"I’m actually quite happy, although I only had two months from sixteen to fifty, but there was a man who liked me, and I married him, it’s a pity we didn’t have time for children." Looking at Kristin, who was rapidly aging, Chen Ze heaved a sigh.
Eternal youth is what so many women dream of, but for Kristin, it had become a curse.
Was it worth it? Chen Ze didn’t know, but perhaps for Kristin, it was worthwhile, and she was happy, having lived the life she had longed for.
"This is my payment for the meal." Kristin struggled to place a small box on the table, then stood up shakily.
Kristin was becoming increasingly aged, with the years leaving their marks on her.
"Kristin, what do you plan to do now?" Betty asked softly, biting her lower lip.
"I plan to... return to the orphanage where I grew up, and take in the scenery there." Kristin smiled and then pushed the door open and left.
"This might be the last time we see Kristin." Chen Ze picked up the small box, not caring what was inside.
This was Kristin Luna’s proof of existence in this world, and also her last belongings. Chen Ze intended to keep it as a keepsake.
