Chapter 212: Chapter Seventy-Two: Steak and Western Cuisine

Chen Ze looked at the new customer in front of him, there was no doubt that he must have come from a parallel world similar to Earth, after all, his trench coat and outfit looked pretty much like ordinary clothing.

But what Chen Ze was curious about was which world the customer had come from — the Marvel Universe, or somewhere else?

This piqued Chen Ze’s interest, though by the man’s appearance, he did not seem to be a famous figure Chen Ze was aware of.

Anfield looked at Betty with surprise. Ever since he had come in, he’d noticed Betty, not because Anfield was a lecherous person, but because he realized that the wings behind her seemed to be real.

This was quite strange, as humans aren’t supposed to have wings, and more so, there was a tail behind her, a look that more resembled a demon.

"Sir?" Betty looked at Anfield quizzically, as he was lost in thought staring at her.

"Do you have steak?" Anfield found a spot to sit and then took in his surroundings.

It was a restaurant, not a particularly high-class one, certainly no match for a Michelin-starred restaurant, but a lot better than a street stall.

Betty looked helplessly towards the kitchen, and Chen Ze inside nodded.

Preparing a steak was no big deal for Chen Ze, however, the choice of beef would affect the quality of the steak, and Chen Ze intended to use ingredients from another world to prepare it.

Otherwise, the ingredients Alisa had given him would go to waste, and Chen Ze did not want to encounter the problem of moldy and spoiled ingredients again.

"Then give me a medium-rare steak and a vegetable salad," Anfield noticed Betty’s gesture and couldn’t help but look at the kitchen too. freewёbnoνel.com

"Alright, please wait a moment," Betty came over and poured Anfield a glass of lemon water.

Anfield watched Betty’s retreating figure, then became even more convinced that this restaurant was different from ordinary ones.

At first, he had thought it was just a themed restaurant, but now, seeing Betty’s very natural tail, Anfield was certain of one thing — that this waitress was indeed a demon.

If his guess was correct, that would be quite interesting.

If there were demons, did that mean Dante’s "Divine Comedy" was real, and that Satan and Lucifer might actually exist?

This intrigued Anfield immensely. Humans are a very boring species; he could infer whether the newspaper delivery man who came to his house every day had quarreled with his partner, or if he had spent a sweet evening.

But now, with a demon almost certainly in front of him, Anfield could barely restrain his excitement.

Chen Ze took a large chunk of beef out of his Spatial Bag, then picked out the best piece and cut out a portion for a steak.

He then placed it on the charcoal to start grilling. Although there were also pan-fried steaks, Chen Ze had his own ideas.

The steak, having been introduced from abroad to Huaxia, was once considered a high-end cuisine. Chen Ze still remembered going to a Western restaurant with his relatives and being taught dining etiquette for half a day.

With the left hand holding the fork and the right hand holding the knife, one had to be careful not to make a sound while cutting, which left a deep impression on the young Chen Ze.

Then, the Western restaurant attracted a bunch of "successful" people, who dressed well and occasionally spoke a few sentences in English as if they were attending a high-society gathering.

Afterward, Chen Ze didn’t go to Western restaurants much, mostly because the cuisine didn’t quite suit his taste.

Chen Ze shook his head, casting aside all the thoughts in his mind, and then focused on the steak that was grilling.

Medium-rare was a difficult level to master, but Chen Ze still noticed some subtle changes, and thus, he took the steak off the grill and placed it on an iron plate.

[You’ve made a standard steak. Western cuisine experience increased by 5 points.]

Another new type of dish had been unlocked, and Chen Ze was quite satisfied.

Each type of dish could provide Chen Ze with no small amount of help, and he wondered what Western cuisine would offer—could it be the grid from AC? After all, Chen Ze felt that Western cuisine seemed to pay special attention to plating, particularly French cuisine, which liked to serve small portions on large plates.

While washing vegetables, Chen Ze pondered over new recipes. He planned to wait for Liu Maoxing to arrive, learn a few recipes from him, and then create some glowing dishes.

Before long, Betty carried out the steak and salad, and Chen Ze followed behind.

"Sir, here’s your dish, please enjoy," Betty said as she placed the steak and salad on Anfield’s table, then retreated to the side.

Anfield looked at Chen Ze in surprise—this must be the head chef from the kitchen. He had been observing the restaurant, and it seemed there were no other chefs.

However, Anfield couldn’t understand why the head chef would come out. Could it be to explain the origin of the beef used to justify charging more?

Chen Ze smiled smugly, then took out a pair of sunglasses from his chest pocket and put them on. He then pinched a small amount of salt, sprinkling it over the steak with a very unique gesture.

Anfield watched Chen Ze in disbelief. He had considered many possibilities, but he really hadn’t anticipated that Chen Ze would come over just to sprinkle salt?

Did you just forget to season it with salt? And if you really forgot, why would you use such a pretentious gesture to do it?

It made absolutely no sense!

For the first time, Anfield felt the urge to make a snide remark—the head chef seemed completely abnormal.

Having successfully satisfied his cosplay desire, Chen Ze greeted Anfield with a beaming smile and then headed back to the kitchen.

Chen Ze had long wanted to play the role of Salt Bae, but since no one had ever ordered steak before, the sunglasses he bought naturally went unused.

Anfield picked up the knife and fork and cut into the steak, only to find the meat was incredibly tender, so tender that he suspected it was a faux steak made of scraps.

Anfield put a piece of the beef in his mouth and chewed a few times.

Contrary to his initial thoughts, the steak was genuine beef, and Anfield could tell that it came from the best part of the cow.

The tender texture and the juices from the meat, along with a bit of sauce and the sprinkled salt—while it still couldn’t compare to those star-rated restaurants using top-grade beef, it was still a very good steak.

Anfield was very satisfied, and then he took a bite of the salad, which also tasted quite good.

Anfield felt that perhaps coming to this restaurant was a wise choice.
