Chapter 189: Chapter Forty-Nine: The Date

Chen Ze scratched his head; Betty had already gone back. Chen Ze even waited an extra twenty minutes, but Hastur still didn’t show up, which left Chen Ze feeling somewhat dejected. After all, he had some matters he had hoped Hastur could help with. frёeωebɳovel.com

However, upon further thought, Hastur’s absence might have been a good thing. Chen Ze locked up and used a Magic Circle to check the entire restaurant, ensuring nothing was overlooked before slowly making his way upstairs.

Chen Ze was a bit nervous; today was his date with Lafra. While Chen Ze thought so, Lafra had never said anything of the sort, which made Chen Ze start pondering what exactly he should do today.

Watching a movie was clearly out of the question, as they had already seen one last time, so Chen Ze hadn’t planned to watch another. Besides, Lafra had one issue with movies—she often became distracted.

Concerned for the safety of his computer, Chen Ze decided to drop the idea of watching a movie. Next up would probably be playing games with Lafra, right?

Chen Ze thought this was a pretty good idea; playing co-op games together should be quite interesting.

Chen Ze gently pushed the door open and then peeked inside. He had confirmed just a moment ago that Lafra was in his bedroom.

In the darkness, Chen Ze could barely make out Lafra lying on the desk, apparently asleep. This quieted Chen Ze’s flustered heart a fair bit.

Chen Ze tiptoed over; Lafra was sleeping soundly, completely unaware of Chen Ze’s presence. Chen Ze didn’t turn on the light; instead, he used the faint glow from the Magic Circle to look at the paper under Lafra’s hand.

It was an ordinary sheet of A4 paper—something Chen Ze had used back when he was working. After resigning, he took some home but had hardly used them since.

"Pfft..." Chen Ze couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Lafra had drawn a picture on it, or at least it seemed like one?

A man with black hair held a blonde woman in his arms, with a backdrop resembling the starry sky. Chen Ze could tell that Lafra had drawn him and herself.

Should he say this was just like a girl? Every girl has dreamt of being a princess, it seems age doesn’t matter. Lafra, an ancestor of vampires, also harbored a young girl’s heart.

Chen Ze gazed at Lafra’s profile—her long eyelashes and delicate features entranced him, and he found himself slowly leaning in.

"Dear? When did you come up~" Lafra lifted her head, causing Chen Ze to instantly step back a bit.

"Hmm, just a moment ago. I came up to check on you and found you were asleep." Chen Ze scratched his head awkwardly. He was so close, just a tad bit close!

"Has Betty gone back?" Lafra rubbed her eyes, then yawned with her hand over her mouth, an action so adorable it made Chen Ze feel an urge to nosebleed.

Chen Ze turned on the light casually. Since Lafra had woken up, there was no need to keep the lights off anymore.

"Yeah, she’s gone. Your healing spell was a big help to her." Chen Ze nodded. To tell the truth, he had planned to have Betty try one more dark cuisine dish before leaving—the ingredients were all ready—but then he gave up the idea.

After all, if he had knocked Betty out with his cooking, he wouldn’t have been able to enjoy a pleasant date with Lafra that evening.

"What are we going to do today?" Lafra looked at Chen Ze expectantly, and he felt he could almost see the excitement shining in her eyes.

Facing such a gaze, Chen Ze truly couldn’t bring himself to say something like, "Let’s play games today." That would be too absurd; no matter how clueless he might be, there had to be a limit.

Chen Ze hesitated for a moment before recalling something he had obtained earlier. He then rummaged through the cupboard and brought out the Magic Crystal, pressing it.

In an instant, the entire second floor was transformed, turning into a forest full of stars. Chen Ze could even see small dots of light akin to fireflies all around him.

Lafra looked at Chen Ze in amazement. She wasn’t surprised that Chen Ze had something like this, after all, she was the one who gave it to him. She was just surprised that Chen Ze had chosen this moment to use it since it had never been used before.

If it hadn’t been for asking Betty, Lafra would have asked long ago why Chen Ze didn’t give her the Magic Crystal.

"Do you... like it?" Chen Ze was a bit nervous as he stood on a soft lawn, the breeze carrying the scent of the forest.

"You... you..." Lafra bowed her head with trembling shoulders, which made Chen Ze somewhat expectant.

"You jerk, did you secretly look at my paintings?" Lafra asked, clenching her fists at Chen Ze, her face flushed.

"Uh... that... I just thought..." Chen Ze truly hadn’t expected Lafra to be shy. He thought the paintings were quite good. Though not comparable to a professional artist, they were infinitely better than Chen Ze’s stick figures.

"Hmph." Lafra turned her head away.

Chen Ze felt a mess and flustered inside. Instinctively, he walked over and stood behind Lafra, gently embracing her, and he lowered his head to smell her fragrance.

Lafra didn’t speak or struggle but leaned back into Chen Ze’s arms, looking up at the starry sky above.

"We’ll get married, right?" Lafra suddenly asked.

"Of course, I’ve always dated you with the intention of marriage," Chen Ze immediately nodded, laughing to himself. With such a girlfriend, why wouldn’t he hold on tight?

"Just to let you know, I have a bad temper and I’m very willful," Lafra said softly, holding Chen Ze’s hand.

"That’s great, my temper is good and I’m not willful," Chen Ze said with a smile, firmly holding Lafra’s hand in return.

"I’m a dead person, you won’t despise me, will you?" Lafra asked nervously, her voice trembling.

Chen Ze was taken aback. So vampires were considered dead too, huh? He truly hadn’t known that, always assuming vampires lived in another way.

"I won’t despise you," Chen Ze felt it was time to set up his stall again; he needed to earn more money. After all, he needed to buy a ring for the wedding.

Wait, a ring? Chen Ze suddenly felt it might not be necessary. After all, his kitchen was stocked with gemstones, including a very large diamond. He just needed to have that diamond crafted.

However, if he married Lafra, he’d face the issue of what to do with her afterwards, considering she had a lot of matters to attend to in the negative plane.

But, problems are meant to be solved, and Chen Ze was quite confident about that.

"Hmph, remember to take a bath first next time. You smell like cooking, and I feel like I’m being embraced by a culinary dish," Lafra complained as she lightly kicked Chen Ze.
