Chapter 186: Chapter 46: Gladiator Siblings and Andrew’s Birthday

"Manager, your heart is really cold." Betty rubbed her belly with a pained expression, truly feeling like the employee meal she just had almost sent her to meet the Gods she worshipped.

"Hehe," Chen Ze chuckled, then wielded his knife to slice open the eel and removed all its innards.

Betty looked at Chen Ze with confusion, unable to understand why he suddenly became angry. She pondered, not recalling any wrongdoing on her part recently—could it be that Chen Ze was digging up old grudges?

"Manager, I swear, it wasn’t me who overwrote your ’Sun and Moon’ save file!" Chen Ze’s mouth twitched, having not played ’Sun and Moon’ recently, he really didn’t know his save had been overwritten.

"Manager, I’m telling you, I absolutely didn’t browse any unhealthy websites on your computer!" Chen Ze took a deep breath. That explained why, when he had turned on his computer, the antivirus software immediately blasted him with a myriad of virus and Trojan alerts, making him wonder if he had accidentally clicked on something.

Who would have thought it was Betty’s doing. Chen Ze thought that his earlier cup of boiled water had been too polite; he should have fed this deranged succubus some pure 96% alcohol to let her brain soak in it and sober up.

Betty, looking at Chen Ze chopping the eel, grew anxious. She felt he wasn’t just cutting the eel but rather chopping at her with each stroke, and she didn’t doubt the murderous intent in Chen Ze’s eyes.

"Sister, we’re going to the Beast Fighting Arena tomorrow." Jack suddenly fell silent and then looked at his sister seriously.

"Yeah, same as always, we’ll survive." Alice nodded with a resolute expression in her eyes.

"So this piece of fish...?" Jack lifted his fork, eyes shining as he looked at the last piece of saury in front of him.

"Bang!" A loud noise startled Chen Ze, making him rub his forehead. What was this all about? Were these two patrons here to eat or to demolish the place?

If not for the entire restaurant being protected by the Magic Circle, that blow just now would have obliterated Chen Ze’s table, likely even leaving a hole in the floor.

"Manager, you’re acting very strange today, not even getting angry?" Betty looked at Chen Ze, somewhat surprised. She knew that although Chen Ze usually didn’t intervene in patrons’ disputes, he would use the Magic Circle if things got physical.

"Nothing worth getting angry about," Chen Ze shook his head, placed the eel on the grill, and focused on the grill in front of him.

Chen Ze had been listening in on the earlier conversation. He now had a clear idea of what these two patrons were all about. If he wasn’t mistaken, the siblings were likely gladiators from the Beast Fighting Arena, albeit a rather peculiar one.

Gladiators, huh? A profession where one is always a hair’s breadth from death, living on edge, not knowing if today might be their last.

"Boss, time to settle the bill!" Alice crammed the last piece of saury into her mouth and then stood up.

"All right, that’ll be—." Chen Ze held up his hand and gestured with five fingers.

"That expensive? But since your fish is real fish, I won’t make a fuss about it." Alice raised her wrist, and the virtual projection screen appeared again, then she just stared blankly at Chen Ze. freewebnσvel.cѳm

Chen Ze stared back, completely at a loss about what she intended to do.

"What are you spacing out for? Give me your store’s code, how else am I supposed to pay you?" Alice thought this man must be an idiot—it’s not like they were playing a staring game.

Chen Ze’s mouth twitched; there was no such thing as a store code in his place. This was a bit of a problem, akin to a Huaxia person traveling abroad and habitually pulling out a phone for a transaction, asking for a "scan me, I scan you" exchange.

"Eh? You don’t have a store code?" Alice looked at Chen Ze, surprised, then hesitated for a moment before pulling out a small dagger from her bosom and handing it to Chen Ze.

"I won’t take unfair advantage of you. Although this dagger is just a regular item, it’s still worth some credit points." Alice called out to Jack and then they left.

Chen Ze stared blankly at the dagger in his hand, an ordinary-looking dagger without any decoration. The problem, though, was that Chen Ze saw the attribute frame around it.

[Item Name: Dagger]

[Equipment Grade: White Common]

[Attack Power: 1-2]

This was the first time Chen Ze had seen a dagger with attributes. At that moment, he even wondered if he had accidentally crossed into another world, or if perhaps his System had awakened some new function, and he was about to embark on the classic routine of leveling up and monster hunting.

Then Chen Ze glanced at his kitchen knife, which had no attributes; it was still just a kitchen knife.

Chen Ze hesitated for a moment before picking up a rarely used kitchen knife to test against the dagger, and just like that, the white common dagger broke.

"...." Chen Ze silently threw the dagger into the trash can.

It seemed that the unique aspect of this dagger stemmed from the world that the brother and sister belonged to. If Chen Ze wasn’t mistaken, all equipment in that world had attributes, somewhat similar to a game world.

Chen Ze returned to the kitchen, quietly flipping the eel on the grill and brushing it with sauce. That dagger had brought back some rather unpleasant memories.

"Sister Betty, I’m going to head out now." Andrew wiped his hands; he had already finished washing the dishes, while Elena was fast asleep, slumped over the table next to him.

"Okay, thanks for your hard work," Betty said softly, then ruffled Andrew’s hair.

Watching Andrew carefully lift the sleeping Elena onto his back, Chen Ze smiled and handed a prepared box to Andrew.

"Happy birthday, Andrew," Chen Ze said, almost laughing at Andrew’s stunned expression.

Betty had just told him that today was Andrew’s birthday, and Elena’s birthday was next month, information she had learned earlier.

"Tha.. Thank you!" Andrew blinked hard, holding back his tears before slowly walking out with the cake.

For the first time since becoming a street orphan, someone other than his sister had celebrated his birthday with him.

"The boss is really kind," Betty remarked while wiping a table.

"It’s just a small thing," Chen Ze shook his head. There was nothing particularly kind about it.

"I saw that in that box, besides the cake, you stuffed several pieces of fried chicken and two Gold Coins." Betty smiled as she looked towards the kitchen. It was only here that she felt the warmth and light.

Later on, the longer she worked, the more she realized that the Dream Restaurant was just such a warm place, always capable of accommodating all its patrons.

"Come here later, I’ve prepared a batch of spicy chili crisps stir-fried with durian for you," Chen Ze said with a smile.

"Disaster!"
