Chapter 182: Forty-two Chapters: There’s a mole! Terminate the transaction!

Chen Ze scratched his head, Stan had already left, and it had to be said that Stan was really busy nowadays. In the past, it took Stan an hour and a half to polish off twenty servings at Buffet, down to the last second.

But now, Stan only took thirty minutes to eat at Buffet and then hurriedly left after leaving behind a gemstone.

Feeling somewhat melancholic, Chen Ze tossed the gemstone into his cabinet. Chen Ze felt that everything in this cabinet couldn’t be traded, after all, whether rubies or diamonds, if the quantities were too large, it would impact the market price. Chen Ze didn’t want to imagine what would happen to the jewelers if he dumped his gemstones on the market, perhaps leading to their bankruptcy.

"What are you thinking about?" Lafra walked up behind Chen Ze, curiously looking at him.

"Nothing, I was just wondering what use these gemstones had. Lafra, why don’t you take them back?" There was no way he would give them to Betty. On one hand, although Chen Ze didn’t make a big deal of the advanced salary Betty had received, if he simply wrote it off, Betty would feel uncomfortable about it.

On the other hand, well, if he gave the gemstones to Betty in front of Lafra, Chen Ze guessed that Betty probably wouldn’t be able to come to work the next day. Recently, when Chen Ze was working on the Magic Circle, he had discovered a problem.

Every time Lafra came, she would first hug him, then use some magic upon him. Although he didn’t know what kind of magic it was, Chen Ze could roughly guess. frёewebηovel.cѳm

So, for the safety of the employees, Chen Ze thought it was better not to provide this particular perk.

"Eh? I don’t want them. I have a room in my castle already filled with these things." Lafra shook her head; she was already tired of seeing these gemstones.

Chen Ze pondered; it’s said that women and Dragons alike favor shiny things, but it seemed that this didn’t quite apply to female Vampires?

"How is Naruto doing with his studies?" Chen Ze asked out of curiosity.

"Not bad, he has good talent, but it always feels like he’s missing a screw in his head. It takes him forever just to memorize a spell. I’m thinking of giving him a Magic Wand to aid his casting." Lafra tied on her apron and stood in front of the cutting board.

"La... Lafra... what are you doing?" Chen Ze trembled a bit, his girlfriend was perfect in every way—looks, personality, you name it, an absolutely perfect girlfriend.

However, there was one issue that Chen Ze had recently discovered—Lafra was absolutely clueless about cooking, reaching a level that could be described as catastrophically appalling.

Chen Ze had a memorable experience eating her cooking once and although he later found ways to gently dissuade her, Lafra was determined to cook for him personally, and Chen Ze just couldn’t bring himself to refuse his girlfriend’s good intentions.

"I’m making a dish, planning to fry a sunnyside-up egg for you~" Lafra smiled as she turned her head.

Chen Ze pondered deeply. Lafra certainly wouldn’t know about the dishes here, and he had never even tried making a sunnyside-up egg before because it didn’t award any experience points, so he never bothered with it.

So, the question was, where did she learn about sunnyside-up eggs?

Chen Ze looked at his cellphone, and in that moment, he felt as if he could see the words "There’s a mole, stop the deal!" written on it.

"Betty, oh Betty..." Chen Ze smiled and looked inside the fridge, pulling out a box of pitaya and mooncakes he had bought last year.

"Are they still filled with mixed nuts?" Chen Ze’s smile grew even brighter.

"What are you laughing about?" Lafra turned around, puzzled. Chen Ze’s laughter just now sounded like those villains in the movies whose conspiracies were about to succeed, giving one the chills just to hear it.

"I remembered something cheerful." Chen Ze brought out the mooncakes, feeling that he truly couldn’t be at ease without returning Betty’s kindness.

"Elena, Andrew!" Betty looked at the two children in front of her with joy.

"Sister Betty!" Elena threw herself into Betty’s arms, allowing Betty to spin her around in an embrace.

"How’s your study at the academy lately?" Chen Ze poked his head out of the kitchen to take a look, having missed the presence of Elena and Andrew who hadn’t visited much recently.

"Uncle Manager, my grades have been very good lately." Andrew looked up at Chen Ze respectfully, a once-petite figure that had grown much more robust with adequate nutrition. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"Haha, that’s good. You go upstairs and take a bath first, and then you can come down for dinner." Chen Ze glanced towards Lafra, where a mass of black material was sliding around in the pot. If it wasn’t for Lafra saying it was fried eggs, Chen Ze would have never guessed what that thing was.

Chen Ze watched, unfazed, as Elena and Andrew went upstairs, then he dumped the contents of the pot onto a plate, considerately placing a cup of "boiled water" beside it.

"Betty, your employee meal is ready. Come and get it." Chen Ze gestured for Betty to come over.

"Okay~ My stomach has been growling..." Betty looked horrified at the purple and slightly brown object in front of her, what in the world was this monstrosity? The pungent and strange smell nearly made Betty faint, and the cup of water beside it looked highly suspicious.

"Man... manager... what’s this...?" Betty swallowed hard. Chen Ze had already moved behind her, blocking the kitchen door.

"It’s your employee meal. You have worked so hard, Betty, it’s only right that I repay you, isn’t it?" Chen Ze smiled at Betty with no trace of guilt.

"Tha... thank you... but I’m not very hungry..." Betty retreated a step, trembling.

"Oh? How can you reject my kindness? Or would you like to discuss your salary?" Chen Ze then pulled out the pay advance slip.

Betty took a deep breath, finally understanding the feeling of being a fish on the chopping block, and reluctantly picked up the spoon with shaking hands.

"Manager! Why is there only a spoon!" Betty was on the verge of a breakdown, she wanted to use chopsticks!

"Without a spoon, how can you savor the delicacy?" Chen Ze chuckled, glancing at the trash can where a bag of spicy strips lay empty, the kind that had been fully used up.

Betty raised her hand, igniting a small flame on her finger, and then reached towards the cup of boiled water.

Before she could touch it, Chen Ze stopped her.

"Alas, alas, Betty, what are you doing? It’s just a cup of boiled water." Chen Ze said with a smile as he used a magic circle to restrict the flow of magic power within Betty’s body.

"Then you dare to let me try it..." Betty was close to tears. If it’s just boiled water, why are you stopping me?

Betty seriously doubted whether this cup of boiled water would burst into flames if touched by fire, possibly a highly concentrated alcohol that would volatilize into the air.

"I dare not." Chen Ze looked at Betty with a grin.

Indeed, squinting eyes are all monsters!
