Chapter 177: Chapter 37: Lafra’s Memory (Part 1)
Lafra snuggled into Chen Ze’s arms and then happily released her grip. Just now, she had checked Chen Ze with various smell-detecting magic and found no other scents on him, which eased her worries a lot.
Chen Ze’s body only had a strong scent of cooking fumes and a mix of culinary smells, but there were no traces of another girl’s scent.
"Lafra, wait for me to take a shower," Chen Ze scratched his head, feeling a bit embarrassed, as he had just finished cooking and knew he probably didn’t smell good.
"Okay, I’ll wait for you in your bedroom then." Lafra blinked at Chen Ze.
Chen Ze was stunned for a moment. What did Lafra mean by going to wait in his bedroom? Wait for what? Chen Ze’s thoughts started to scatter.
Someone once said that men are rather peculiar creatures, a simple phrase from a woman can send their minds racing with thoughts, even as far as considering what would be a good name for their future child.
Chen Ze used not to believe that, since as a socially awkward bachelor, he lacked such female friends. But now, unexpectedly, he found himself able to experience this firsthand.
Lafra entered Chen Ze’s bedroom, which was a clear testament to his singlehood. Although Chen Ze had tried to tidy up, the signs were still quite evident.
The cluttered room, the haphazardly placed items, and a couple of devices that looked like gaming equipment, but no alcohol, which made Lafra feel at ease.
Chen Ze’s bedroom reminded Lafra of her father, the man who once loved her deeply.
"Elizabeth, Elizabeth!" the man bellowed in rage.
"Father..." Elizabeth looked at the man in front of her in terror, reeking of alcohol.
"You... come here..." The man sprawled weakly across the table, then violently grabbed his daughter’s arm, pulling her close.
"Where did you put your mother’s jewelry?" Bloodshot eyes stared at her, the man’s alcohol-laden breath spattering Elizabeth’s face.
"I don’t know! I won’t tell you!" Elizabeth yelled loudly, kicking fiercely, trying to break free from her father’s grasp.
"You wench, you wretch! Your father has no alcohol to drink, and you still hide... *burp*... hide your dead mother’s jewels!" The man raised his hand, Elizabeth closed her eyes defiantly, yet tears kept rolling down her face uncontrollably.
The anticipated pain did not come. Elizabeth opened her eyes to find the man had passed out on the table, where once many fancy tablecloths had adorned, only tattered wood remained now.
"Wench..." the man mumbled curses unintelligibly.
Elizabeth wiped her tears and ran back to her room, hiding under the covers and sobbing softly. She did not like her father at all, not one bit.
The following day, the man knelt on the ground guiltily, hugging Elizabeth and crying. Elizabeth silently ate her breakfast, the dry bread.
"Elizabeth... I’m sorry..."
"Lafra, sorry to keep you waiting," Chen Ze, dressed in his pajamas, shook his head as he had just dried his hair with a hairdryer.
"What do you want to do today?" Lafra turned her head to look at Chen Ze, asking curiously.
She was reminded again of the things she had buried, the things she didn’t want to think about, but on this special day, they resurfaced. She didn’t like it, not one bit.
"How about... watching a movie?" Chen Ze thought this choice would be quite nice, considering watching a movie together was definitely something to do on a date.
"Huh? A movie, what’s that?" Lafra was very puzzled; this was the second time she had heard about this thing.
The first time was at Hastur’s place, where Hastur mentioned he wanted to shoot a movie to show and demanded that the Dark Council must allow it. freewebnσvel.cøm
Stan agreed without any hesitation, arranging for the venue and staff to be given to Hastur. After all, it saved him a lot of trouble to keep this master sated, and of course, the main reason was that he couldn’t beat him.
"A movie is something similar to that Magic Crystal you saw last time," Chen Ze scratched his head, unsure of how to explain it.
"Okay, I’ll listen to you," Lafra followed Chen Ze to the computer and watched him click on something.
"Lafra, what kind of genre do you want to watch?" Chen Ze asked Lafra.
"Let’s not watch anything scary and horrifying; anything else is fine." Chen Ze almost bashed his head on the computer. A vampire afraid of ghosts? This was completely beyond Chen Ze’s imagination, as logically, vampires were part of the horror genre, weren’t they?
"Hmm... then let’s watch this one," Chen Ze hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he decided to watch Hachiko with Lafra.
Chen Ze wasn’t sure if Lafra would understand the concepts in a sci-fi movie, and he thought she might not get it, so a simple and easy-to-understand movie like this was more suitable for their date.
"Hmm... Loyal Dog Hachi?" Lafra leaned in to take a look and then struggled to read it out loud.
Chen Ze’s face turned red instantly. Lafra’s face was very close, and he could even see her lips.
"It’s Hachiko, silly," Chen Ze hastened to explain.
"Eh? Lafra, you can read our writing now?" Chen Ze was a bit surprised; he remembered that although Lafra could communicate with him directly in his mind through mental thoughts, she shouldn’t be able to read Chinese characters.
"Yes, I’ve been learning lately. Who asked for my boyfriend to be you?" Lafra smiled playfully, then sat obediently beside Chen Ze.
Chen Ze felt his heartbeat stop for a moment.
Chen Ze started the playback and switched to full-screen mode, then sat down with Lafra.
The movie began to play, but Chen Ze had no intention of watching. He felt he couldn’t seriously watch the movie under circumstances like this.
Lafra’s scent was very fragrant. Chen Ze could see her delicate features from the corner of his eye. Lafra was watching the movie intently; she was genuinely interested in everything Chen Ze did.
Chen Ze hesitated a bit, then reached out his hand and took Lafra’s hand, feeling a very soft sensation.
Chen Ze clearly felt Lafra’s body shudder slightly. Her hand instinctively pulled back a little, then stopped. After that, Lafra turned her hand around and grabbed Chen Ze’s hand.
"La... Lafra..." Chen Ze was a bit nervous.
"What is it..." Lafra’s voice was also very quiet.
"Today... today’s weather is really nice... hahaha..." Chen Ze wanted to punch himself in the head for saying such things.
"Yes, the weather is really nice." The expected laughter did not come; instead, Lafra turned to look at Chen Ze, sunlight splashing across her face, illuminating the darkness.
